I'm impressed with how leak free the engine seems to be. Good to see the KW outside,

The solenoid has a spring washer that makes a connection with two copper contacts to send the power to the starter. Over time they get worn and don't make a good connection. Take the back off the solenoid and sand the washer and the contacts, good as new, no more intermittent starts or clicking. That's the easy fix. :)

      Good to know. Thanks!

Four small bolts and the back of the solenoid slips off the starter and the magnet. Four smaller bolts and the back cover of the solenoid come off and the contacts and washer are right there, can't miss them. The washer will have melted copper on it and the contacts will be worn. Takes a few minutes to touch them up with an orbital sander. Easy peasy. The starter is really heavy and that third bolt is a bitch, just by your diagnosis I guarantee that's the obvious problem and it gets progressively worse. It is nice having a new starter but in a pinch that's good to know.
      Cheers from Vancouver Island. @da

@@allancrow134 yep that darn 3rd bolt wasn’t easy haha. The new started is much lighter and fires right up easier now but I’ll take a look at the old one and have a spare for the future.
