Motoro Stingray Care Guide

  • Taking care of Motoro stingrays isn’t difficult if you do your research. I highly advise getting a couple canister filters.
    More fish tank stuff:
So about 4 weeks ago I got my 4 discus my blue turquoise discus has always been been abit off like he bearly eats an is really dark most of the time sometimes he goes to the other side of the tank by himself and all my water parameters are fine and everything else in the tank seems healthy including the other 3 discus, anyone got any advice? In tank; ghost knife fish, 10x cardinal tetras, pleco and 2 corys.
My tank is coming along nicely and all my plants are growing well. But I am noticing a bit of algae on the glass and plants. The tank is 28 litres. 4 harlequin rasboras and a male betta. What would be the best thing to put in for algae? I'm thinking snails but don't really know which ones. I don't want loads of babies!
One is think of an Amano shrimp. The only thing putting me off is my betta spends a lot of time looking for scraps of food on the bottom of the tank and I worry the shrimp will get in his way. Do nerite snails breed much? Nerites can lay eggs in freshwater, but they will not hatch in freshwater, so they dont multiply (in freshwater). Amano shrimps are almost transparant (hard to spot) and tend to get too big for the betta to eat, they are quick buggers also.
Yes cherry shrimp stay smaller, and are most often betta snacks.(sometimes not) amano shrimp get bigger and are not as easy to see throughout the tank. If not you could consider getting 2 nerites. But i always advise to try one first see how it does. Nerites were what I was thinking. Are they quite self sufficient or do I need to feed them algae wafers? If your tank is cycled and has been running for a while with real plants he will be just fine, usually they start off slow and get faster at eating when they are used to the tank. Watch out first few days so he does not fall on his back, if he does turn him rightside up.
Yeah if possible after 10 minutes, add a bit of your own water in the bag and let him in for another 15-20, i usually acclimate for 30 minutes adding a bit of my own water every 10 mins. I went to 4 seperate shops. Didn't actually buy fish from any of them as I went to a local shop. But all said it was fine. And up until now I've had no issues but I've been away for a week and I think the pet sitter over fed the fish.
Unfortunately there isn't a lot I can do now. I can't get a bigger tank or a separate tank. So I'll just have to do regular water changes and keep an eye on them. Currently they're all doing very well. Algae is completely normal. if you're experiencing too much of it buy an aquarium scrubber and wipe off. if it is growing out of control, cut the tank lights off a few hours earlier and feed a bit less.
One single snail won't do a good cleanup job. Lots of snails might but that adds to your bioload considering they poop more than clean. If you want to add shrimp do it in a group of at least 4.. but your Betta might eat them. There's not loads of algae. I just noticed it on an ornament and on the glass but I had been away for a week so it needed a water change. It's easy to wipe off I just wasn't sure if I should be concerned or not.
Motoro stingray Care. I have that stuff too. It is not biofilm. Biofilm is clear and cloudy white. To me your algae looks like it started from leftover food which is totally fine and normal. A siphon and wc will help that go away. I have one nerite and one amano in my 9 gallon, they got rid of all my brown algae problems. Im setting up another 10 gallon betta. And will have the same clean up crew in there. very good combo they work great together.
Im getting my friends betta. He's sick. He's in a 1.5 and mom refuses to upgrade. Which I don't like but I know he'll be better with me because my friend is to busy to clean his water and I will clean it a whole lot. He does have a filter. Just wanted to announce I'm getting another betta which I think will help me since I recently lost my betta.
So my buddy is gonna give me some Betta fishes for my own and so I bought my own set up , had an old tank and filter laying around so I cleaned and prepped those.
But he told me to cycle the tank for a day , and then I can put the fishes in. But most internet sources are telling me to cycle it for at least a month. How did you guys prep a new tank for new Bettas. the tank shoudl be cycled for a month - that is when usually the levels of NH4, N03, NO2 stabilize. When you dont cycle for a month, it is important to do frequent water changes, which will keep the NO2 levels down to 0.

GingerAle4Life one word. jealousy . I've even felt it a bit myself at times. Main thing, he's worked and worked at it . he's only got that fish house cas of his own hard graft and he deserves it. He's sacrificed a lot, and we've only just found out recently a lot more than we thought ..

The smallest species in the hobby is actually the hystrix (Potamotrygon wallacei.) I've personally seen a fully grown male with rolled claspers that was just 7in across. They usually are around $500 and harder to come by though. Also regular motoros should never cost more than $300. You can usually find marbled motoros for around that price too then it just goes up depending on the quality.

Chris get some poret foam. You can use it for tank dividers. And it's awesome biological filtration! It comes in black, blue, red, and i think green. 10, 20, 30, 40 ppi. You can buy large pieces in different thicknesses i love that stuff. Joey is awesome!

When you've got haters like Joey, you know your doing somethin' right! Lol
He certainly doesn't deserve it, but unfortunately it comes with the territory. There are too many people out there unable to feel happy for other's success.
    It's quite unfortunate.

Love your channel. I'm just getting into South & Central American cichlids and your tanks are a great inspiration! Can't wait to see your dream fish store realised and filled with fish and tanks. I agree whole heartedly that Joey of King of DIY has done so much for the fish keeping hobby. People who hate him are just jealous of his success. His 2000 gallon is my dream tank. By the way, how are your electric blue Dempseys doing?

SantaMonicaHelp Assistant just in case you were still interested in the answer to your question, it is ok to have a number of tank mates with them. I have found that they are much more active and healthy without them. That being said, my motoros bred with red hook silver dollars and geophagus Surinamensis in the tank. Without tankmates, I have found that they utilize more of the tank space besides just the bottom. They’ll swim along all surfaces and glide in the current.

I hate to say it dude, but you are advertising this as a care guide for keeping a Stingray when, A, you have never had one, and B, you keep talking but I don't hear much factual information. Keeping a Stingray is definitely not for beginners but there is plenty of other freshwater fish that are harder to keep than a ray. Also, you talk about needing 500-1000 gallons when really all you need is more surface area. So a shallow 120 or 150 is plenty of room. Also, rays are relatively slow growing and if fed a proper amount but not over feeding a young ray pup will not outgrow a 120 or 125 for years. So really a guy/gal could easily put a young ray in a 75gal tank as long as they have plans to upgrade in the future. Bottom line, you don't know much if anything about ray keeping. Just because you watch other people that keep rays that doesn't make you a ray keeper.

Nazis? surely that's not good term . if you were a Nazi you'd have your fish in concentration camps, so you'd have tiny tanks 😁 just saying 👍
