In this video, I make a bit of a fool of myself, by trying to make a drum loop more interesting by adding sounds that I recorded with Ed Gill in Hyde Park. I don't think the result is brilliant, but I had fun easing myself back into making videos.

Wow, it's really impressive how easily you work with Logic and all those plugins. You're absolutely right about music being everywhere. Sometimes I'll have a melody or idea just pop into my head out of nowhere. Other times, I'll play around with random samples and create something entirely new based on the sounds themselves. It's amazing how different instruments can affect the music you create. I do not play/create the same things depending on the piano (or piano sample) I use. This, makes me think about the importance and role instrument makers like Chas Smith, Antonio Stradivari, Leo Fender, etc. have in music.

Great to see you back making videos, Dan! That beat sounded so cool at the end, love the organic feel to it. This inspires me to record some field recordings myself! :)

just found your channel from the m1 max macbook review, and i have to say, i absolutely adore these styles of videos, so ill be sticking around. also, what mic did you use for recording these foley sounds? i want to get into recording my own sounds as well, and am looking for a mic to help with that.

Thumbs up for the glass-ticking! 🙂 [ gonna use that one.]
It is a sound effect but also a sort of percussion.
In the 80s I use to sometimes set up a few peanut butter and jam pots,
get out my spoons and do a percussion track with those. 😛
    .
Love the sound effects you did.
The loop is a promise for a cool soul-vibe thing.
    .
It's really weird cos I would first finish the whole song
and than later add in the sound effects but most of them not constantly, but
at certain times and some of them just once.
But you wanted to make this video, so I see why you put them all on the timeline.
    .
    Thumbs up.

Welcome back, Dan! This is exactly how I started making my own sample-based tracks back in the day with Sonic Foundry's ACID. Cue a few samples as loops & it's the same in Logic, albeit with more resources at your disposal. Geez, now that I think about it, I think I might still have a large majority of those samples, loops, & field recordings stowed electronically somewhere 😬

SoundToys Microshift on perc/shakers is also a nice touch to make mono stuff into stereo... love their panner, too, of course. Sometimes the Cooper Time Cube doing the Haas thing can be extra if you want it to be more "effecty."

    • @DanielHolter
      @DanielHolter ปีที่แล้ว

@@DanKeenMusic I'm still early and learning every day... but have embraced the idea of feeling no pressure to upload here, only making/releasing stuff when I am inspired and give no thought to audience scale or retention metrics. It must feel quite different when building toward an announcement or specific release, I can only imagine.
Seems like there's some pushback on the synth-tuber promo machine, product sponsorships and transparency. Which is good.
Also David Hilowitz is still killing it, no surprises there.
