Hearing you say “if colleges don’t want me for who I am, then I don’t want them either” is super comforting to me. College has been really stressful for me and I guess I’ve been really nervous about “validation”. Hopefully that makes sense lol. I’ve been scared that if a college doesn’t except me, it means that I’m not good enough of a person? I know it sounds stupid out loud but thank you for posting this video ❤️❤️
Emily An Aww i’m glad it was comforting❤️ I definitely struggled with that too but it’s really so true if colleges aren’t smart enough to accept you into their school then maybe they just aren’t good enough for you! Everything will turn out okay I promise :)💕

guys these moments always strike me,but you know what,I just don't care because I believe my fate and everyone's fate is going to lead into achieving our dreams,just chill out, everyone has a potential
I know it's been four months already and this probably isn't that relevant anymore, but I feel you. Just a word of encouragement, though:
We look at ourselves in the mirror every day and we become used to it. We feel numb to it. We already know ourselves thoroughly and are constantly looking for changes in ourselves but also see them very often once they happen, so we quickly forget about them. To someone else who hasn't seen all sides of you, however, there's always a side hidden to them for them to uncover about you. Sometimes we see so much of our "interesting" parts that they don't feel new anymore and just seem dull and normal to us. We don't notice them at all. However, to someone else, that may be gold that they've yet to discover in you.

I think part of the positivity and cheerfulness you project is your smile. Others do not like to smile because of how they see themselves. You absolutely have one of those smiles that just makes others want to smile too.

i’ve been trying to write my essay for m o n t h s and the direction i’m wanting to go keeps changing- does anyone have any tips for what i can do to tie all my ideas together 😅
you should start with an anecdote that is very significant and usually the rest comes naturally. Stressing it makes it a lot harder so remember that YOU NEED TO BE YOU don't fake yourself! they will know if you are making a different character. You'll be alright!

i loved this video and how you tied back your original memory and childhood self to the end of your essay and your future! i’m working on my essays right now but i’m having a lot of trouble thinking of specific memories that can help me get across my values and personality - do you have any recommendations to brainstorm memories or can i do a more general essay with an idea and lots of explanation to show how i see the world?
so glad you liked it!! i have a couple of brainstorming videos on my channel already, so those might help you out! i think it’s really important to have these detailed experiences and stories, but it definitely doesn’t have to be when you’re little. you can take an experience you had yesterday and write about it if you think it’s meaningful! anything that is a really personal and concrete example will show your personality better than any straightforward reflection :)

thinking of writing my common app essay center around the quote “life is like a box of chocolates” and how it relates to my life as a military dependent and how unpredictable much of my life has been. thoughts anyone?
That's a really cool idea, especially if you are going to relate it back to your military background. The quote was spoken by Forrest Gump who was also involved with the military， so maybe you can make that movie reference as well? Best of luck to you and your essay writing lol.

love the video! when we answer the “why this school” question, is it supposed to be like a “story”, kind of like the personal essay? :)
it should be mostly about what type of opportunities at the school will be valuable to you and what you can bring to the school! so not as much of a story essay but still very personal! i have a video about this coming out soon so subscribe to keep up with the videos!! :))

I just filmed a UC essays video and it'll be going up pretty soon! I'll be making a video on that as well, but I think the biggest thing is demonstrating your passion for BOTH engineering and business, and why you find value in getting both degrees. More advice to come! :)
