This is the biggest smart lighting renovation I have done yet! The end result really looks amazing. What else would you like to know about the Caséta Wireless system?
Hi Brett! May I ask what's the best email address to get in touch with you? How about this one brett@techwithbrett.com? Wanna to see if there is a chance that we can work together.😁
If you use Pico remotes with home assistant or hubitat, each button can be programmed to do different things for a single tap, a double tap, or a long press.
As an electrician these just provide so much utility without having to rewire. You don’t even have to have a bridge to do some functions such as creating another 3way or a just a convenient remote
I have lutron caseta for ALL my light switches in my house (about 25) and it's the best thing ever !! A bit on the pricey side, but totally worth it :)
You are lucky you, we can’t get the Lutron Caseta in the UK as our voltage is different. Unfortunately it looks like Lutron have no plans to release it for the UK market, they would rather release the RA2.
You might want to start using WAGO wire nuts. They are much smaller, super easy to install, do not come apart and no need for electrical tape. They have a newer transparent version that is even smaller and super easy, even for a DIYer. Because of their smaller size, it is easier to tuck them into the outlet box. Have been around for years. Designed and manufactured in Germany.
I use Lutron for my smart and non-smart lighting, also. They are so reliable! They work every time and all the time. I use regular motion sensors for hallways and the basement laundry room and Caseta for the rest. I can’t wait to get the Serena shades like you did.
Watching this confirms Lutron Caseta is NOT the way to go. Z-wave switches (like the Homeseer) with multi-tap scene control allow much more versatility. You can set 12 scenes per switch and using the LEDs on the switch (7 on the dimmers) you can set status indicators or warning signals for what's happening in other parts of the house . I also prefer being able to install a companion switch with 3 or 4 way wired circuits instead of a battery operated remote. And, the companion switches offer all the same scene control and dimming capabilities of the master switch on that circuit. Oh, and at a lower cost. Yes, most of the z-wave switches require a neutral but most newer house have one in every box anyway. If they don't, go for the Inovelli z-wave switches with almost identical features as Homeseer. Ceiling fans, Homeseer has that covered if fan and light are wired separately. Inovelli has it covered if they are wired together. And, z-wave has a lot of different types of connectable devices which won't require an additional hub. My 2 cents!
We love Lutron's system. I have ours set to turn off a lot of the lights several times every weekday in case we forget. It saves me from "preaching" to the rest of the family about the importance of saving energy ($).
Im currently upgrading my homes switches. I have a few of the caseta switches plus a few of their motion/vacancy switches and a couple rooms with philips hue bulbs & remotes. I thought it would be a weekend activity, but it's going on 6 months of me doing this diy update lol.
Really nice setup. I recently bought a basic Lutron inline dimmer for my 25 year old lava lamp. Because of it's age, it had started to overheat, so putting it on a dimmer to control the heat has made it work like it was brand new again. Lava lamps are the one type of lighting I still consider using incandescent lights for because they require the heat to work. Thankfully, I'm only dealing with 40w, or 25w bulbs depending on the size of the lamp.
To everyone trying the cassetta wireless I would instead offer you the radio ra2 from Lutron, it has over 100 features the cassetta doesn’t have. The Ra2 can inter-grate your alarm, audio, a/c and more but the difference is the more brands and devices available than the cassetta, also the programming is complex to let you dimmer or switches do more than the average and the style of the dimmer from the Ra2 I find more presentable

I recommend upgrading to the lutron caseta smart bridge pro. It can connect to more switches and it offers telnet capability for compatibility with home assistant, openhab and hubitat.
Brett, really like the details in this video. Not sure you’ll see this. I have a fan with light on the same switch. I saw you said I can use the Caseta fan switch to control the light and fan but might have problems with the light. Can you explain? Will it work and if so what are the issues? Thanks!

Thanks so much for this informative video. Are the pico remotes required at the second 3-Way point in or for the first point to work? Can we get away with just using the traditional switch that's already installed? I asked because we hardly ever use that second switch.
I just asked the same question. I have one and can experiment but I don't want to fry my $120 switch (ELV version so my LED lights don't buzz when dimmed).
@@garagehobbies I just recently found the answer! Too bad you can't change the color of the bulbs from cool white to warm white, I'm looking for a system just like this but I want to change the colors of the bulbs, cool white during the day and warm white at night.
Thanks. I just updated all my lights to Caseta without realizing the dimmer has no memory! You get blasted with 100% power and have to dim. Is there any way to set the default brightness in the app? I don't want to have to use voice and I've too many switches to have to add more Pico remotes next to them all. It's horrible and I'm so disappointed. 😪
I noticed one of your room lights jumped to 100% before readjusting to the lower brightness setting. Do you know why they do this sometimes? I have a similar problem (Caseta dimmer, pico remote and 5 led recessed lights). I didn't want to replace all 5 lights with new ones if that wasn't going to fix the issue.
Maual control of the lights (using the switches) will work w/o the internet. Obviously, Siri, Google, and Alexa wouldn't be able to since they are cloud-based.
Hi Brett, great content as always, do Lutron have these for the UK light switches? Got a hall way with 2 switches at either end, a dimmer switch for the living room, dimmer for the lights over the dinning table and a dimmer for the kitchen.
My complaint is the Lutron Caseta don't support 3 way unless you get the pro model which requires a neutral wire. They give you the remote but it looks different then the others which breaks up the consistency. The on off switch requires a neutral wire as well which is frustrating.
Does the Caseta system work well with Philips Hue Bulbs? I am interested in the Caseta Switch and Pico, but I have a ton of Hue bulbs. I know it sounds counterproductive, but the wife wants a switch that she can turn on and off.
The excitement on your face as you are demoing all the lights is priceless! It's like a kid at Christmas! Lol and now I'm jealous and thinking about getting this setup! Awesome recommendation! Thanks!!
That is also me being out of breath 😂. It really is amazing when everything works. I'm just excited for them to be able to have fully working smart home system.
@@TechWithBrett the neutral, ground wires bit is a little daunting for me as I have zero experience with that. How good are the instructions to set it up? I'm afraid I'll turn the power on and everything will just catch on fire! Lol

Thanks Brett for this video! Question: Did you have neutral wires in your house already? If so, do you see any downside to using a non-neutral wire switch like the Caseta ones you have installed? I am pricing putting a lot of Caseta switches, and the dimmer ones requiring a neutral wire are about 2x the cost of the ones you used. Thoughts? Thx!
Yes I did have neutral wiring in the home but did not need them for the dimmers. The only reason I can find to get the one with a neutral is if you have a 3-way circuit and want to use the existing light switch on the other end.

Hi Brett, great content as always, do Lutron have these for the UK light switches? Got a hall way with 2 switches at either end, a dimmer switch for the living room, dimmer for the lights over the dinning table and a dimmer for the kitchen.
Interested in this too
What timer and schedule tools does the lutron app have? More specifically can the ceiling fan have a timer function to automatically turn off?
My complaint is the Lutron Caseta don't support 3 way unless you get the pro model which requires a neutral wire. They give you the remote but it looks different then the others which breaks up the consistency. The on off switch requires a neutral wire as well which is frustrating.
Does the Caseta system work well with Philips Hue Bulbs? I am interested in the Caseta Switch and Pico, but I have a ton of Hue bulbs. I know it sounds counterproductive, but the wife wants a switch that she can turn on and off.
What color temp bulbs do you have in your ceiling lights? I like that bright pure white and what I got at Lowes isn't cutting it.
Lol
@@tophat802 I've put in several Caseta switches. The instruction sheet in the package is thoro. More advanced PDF instructions are on their website - www.lutron.com/TechnicalDocumentLibrary/0301710_Caseta_Advanced_Instructions.pdf
Will there be any electrical code issues with wire being capped off or together if I decide to sell my house?
So helpful. Thank you!
Good job . Excellent thank you
Hi Brett. I just want a motion sensor light that turns on when I walk in. How to do that? Does it work with feit wifi light too?
A very nice video Bret. I have a question about the motion sensor. What is the brand and is it compatible with the google assistant?
It is actually the Caséta Wireless Motion sensor and is only compatible with Lutron products. I cover it more in this video. th-cam.com/video/bH4N3nmV5k0/w-d-xo.html
Saludos amigo. Estoy interesado en instalar ese sistema para un cliente. Me gustaría comunicarme contigo para ver qué accesorios podría requerir. Saludos!
That's really nice & cool , great review as always.👍
How much all does it cost?
Hey you got any extra lutrun smart bridges? I got a switch without a bridge cause I am a WINK survivor.
Can you control the lights remotely? as in, away from home.
Hi,
What kind of recessed lights are you using?
"pico remote"
GO PICO YEA YEA GO PICO OH!
I assume you have courses every so often to teach your family how to control the house! LOL!
Haha! Yes I do. And if anything changes from what I have said should work, they aren't very happy.
What actual light bulbs did you use for these though?
For me what I’d do is install a dimmer for the fan light, but ok.
But why do they keep the price so high?
I bought some of these 5 years ago and the price is still the same.
did you change all the bulb too?
