    Great showcase, I am a fan of the 86, always liked the way they look and think they look even better when slabbed. As always enjoy the stories behind the cards.

      I agree they look great in PSA slab with the 3/4 white border and the full blead black. Such sharp looking cards. I am glad you enjoyed. Take care, Terry

    Beautiful showcase of 1986 topps. Love that you have the traded in there. The 86 ryne sandberg is extra special to me. That is the card that made me want to collect as a kid. Love them all and thanks for sharing!

      Thanks Ray for watching and commenting. . This group of 30 was definitely a journey to build. Not easy to find all the cards and I don’t submit any for grading.

    I like the way you collect as you described here. I collect vintage Topps baseball only and have 70 to 77 complete, but it takes up a lot of room and I’m reconsidering how I want to collect. Especially leaving a burden of how to sell them f I’m gone. If graded, much easier and doing that with just key cards for certain years makes sense. 1986 set does look great here and the year my Mets won!!! Thanks for sharing this video

      …what PSA Grade level do you target or have a minimum grade level

    • @tjmacvintagecardsnostalgia648
      @tjmacvintagecardsnostalgia648  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I appreciate the comment. I have been collecting in this manner for over 20 years. As you wrote, I do not want to leave the burden of a bunch of cards that my family will not know what to do with. I sold off most of my raw collection with the exception of some sets from my childhood that have special meaning. Graded cards are easy to catalog and display. They are also very liquid when it comes time to sell. The grade is on the card so you have a good idea of value. I don't plan on selling in my lifetime, but you never know. I did sell some cards to finance different vintage card projects. My kids do have interest in the collection, but I have set it up to where they can move it fairly easily if they need to. Graded cards can be an expensive hobby, but I take my time and budget within my means. I collect pretty much PSA 5 or higher from the 30s to the 50s. PSA 6 or higher in the 60s to the early 70s and PSA 7 or higher in the 70s and PSA 8 or higher from 1980 to 1989. I do have a few PSA 4s but they comprise a very small part of my collection and are generally from the 30s. Take care, Terry

    Super video. Another amazing set to look at. I agree the 86 set is underrated. I have the complete set but it does not come close to looking as good as your set does. Just super. The information was great again. Didn't not know that Mattingly Story and enjoyed the Kirby Puckett/Bob Costas story. Thanks again for sharing. Keep up the amazing videos.

    I love the 1986 Topps cards! Something about that cool 1980s lettering. You picked some great players. Took me back in time! I’m partial to Will Clark so I would’ve squished him in there somewhere. 😉

      Thanks. The sweet swinging Will Clark was definitely one of the great players of the late 80s.

    I like this set more than most people. I bought a 6 box rack case of them. Ran out of storage and had to keep everything above like 600 in an old briefcase of my dads. Love seeing George and Kirby next to each other.

      I am with you on liking this set. A 6 box rack case is a lot of cards. They are beautiful looking cards and a nice blend of portrait and action shots that we both like. Love the Mattingly, Puckett and Winfield cards. I appreciate you watching and commenting. Take care, Terry

    Man those are so tough to grade. ‘86 was such a fantasy year in the game, great group!

    • @tjmacvintagecardsnostalgia648
      @tjmacvintagecardsnostalgia648  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks George. I love that they did a black and white border. I can see where it would be tough to grade. I bought all of these already graded. I agree that 86 was such a great year. So many young and exciting players coming into the game at that time. Some didn’t pan out and others started out strong and then faded, but it was a magical time to be a kid ripping packs of cards. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

    Love it, the first set I bought complete. $16. I like that you included traded. Nice Seaver and Boggs.

    • @tjmacvintagecardsnostalgia648
      @tjmacvintagecardsnostalgia648  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I did include the traded cards from 81 to 89. It made selecting the 30 even tougher. I was commenting to someone else that if I did the 30 cards back in 89 or 90 it would look so much different. So many players like Gooden, Strawberry, Canseco, Joyner, Will Clark didn't have the HOF careers we thought they would.

    Awsome I just opens a box of rack packs from 86 I'm maybe half way threw it an already got two well centered cecefileders and gorge Bretts also have a nice Kirby Puckett I have Ted Simmons twice so far one is in the front of one of the rack packs still not opend Carlton fisk wade Boggs Eddie Murray an Nolan Ryan's on the front of one of the rack packs to super excited hope I find a nice don mattingly or Pete rose in the next few packs or a more centerd mike smit deff on the hunt to grade some cards awsome video

    • @tjmacvintagecardsnostalgia648
      @tjmacvintagecardsnostalgia648  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! The 86 Topps is an underappreciated set because it doesn't have any big rookies. To me, the black and white with the large colorful team names makes for a great design. A nice variety of photos to that make for a nice presentation when placed next to each other.

    86. First year i really started collecting. Love this set a lot of memories for sure. Hey you forgot the Will Clark, Vince Coleman and Cecil Fielder lol. Great video thanks again 👍

    • @tjmacvintagecardsnostalgia648
      @tjmacvintagecardsnostalgia648  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I love your comment about Fielder, Clark and Coleman. This is why I collect backwards based on what was done in a career vs. going forward. If my 30 cards was selected in 1989 you see Galaraga, Kevin Mitchell, Jose Canseco, Eric Davis, Strawberry, Joyner, Gooden in addition to those you mentioned. Shows the risk in pouring big dollars based on potential or early career success. Thanks for watching and commenting.

      Something about the slabs and being against the black backdrop that really makes these card pop.

  • @alans_cards

    Great set. Definitely mass produced but I still think one year ahead of the really mass produced 87. I like the display approach, the cards always look great when they’re all together. My favorite Gwynn stats to look at are his ridiculously low number of Ks.

    • @tjmacvintagecardsnostalgia648
      @tjmacvintagecardsnostalgia648  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree 87 is when the presses really let loose. I am doing the Tiffany for those years except for the Bonds and Maddux in 87 and Griffey and Randy in 89. The Tiffany have a lot less printed under 30,000 compared to the millions of the regular issue. Gwynn. Strikeout numbers are ridiculous

    This is a very cool set certainly compared to 1990 , 1991, 1993 but this isn't as classic as the 1980 and 81 . this isn't anywhere being close to being as good as the 1975 set? I actually like the 1980 Football set better than this one. good set better than 1990 , 1991, 1992 and 1993 but not as good as your other sets speaking of your 1974 Hockey set, 1976 Hockey , 1980 Hockey set , 1976 Football and 1980.
    some cards I like are
    Tony Gwynn, Eddie Murray, Bo Jackson, Tony Perez, Nolan Ryan, Carlton Molitor, Fisk, Brett, , Ripken, Carew , Henderson, Clemens, Mr. October, Ozzie Smith, Dawson , Yount,
    did Tony Perez go back to the Reds? , Fisk is in the wrong uniform, So is Winfield?
    table top showings are very nice it's your video and your cards so anyway you do it's fine by me.
    did you get these cards as a kid or later on in life say at a show or a store?

    • @tjmacvintagecardsnostalgia648
      @tjmacvintagecardsnostalgia648  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did not get these exact cards as a kid, but I did have them. I bought all of the cards I am showing over a 20+ year span. I got into collecting again as an adult in around 2000. Perez did go back to the Reds. I agree that Fisk was better in a Red Sox uniform even though I am not a Red Sox fan. I am a Yankees fan so I like Winfield in pinstripes. I also think that is a beautiful card with him swinging. Some sets I like better than others, but I have put these 30 card baseball showcases together from 1956-1989 so I even did years I didn't like as much. I need 10 Tiffany cards from 1989 and I am done. I will never be able to go back and do 30 card showcases for before 56 it is too costly and I little interest in cards after 1989.
