I pronounce Thymesia as a portmanteau of thymus and amnesia. Which I think is fitting given the themes of disease and memory.
Salt and Sanctuary was mentioned!! Thank you for giving it a shout out 😂. Maybe I had seen the prior video on this subject and brought it up, but yeah...that game has a soft spot with me. It was only local co-op, which was perfect for me and my brother to play together and enjoy the (new to us) PS4 I had bought. I can tell now that either a new area has since been added or we missed it but we don't live together anymore and I'm not brave enough to venture down into that area on my own. I was a cleric, I think, and he was a paladin. I died easier but could heal him better and use holy magic. It was a really good duo, but letting him lead the charge is also why I don't feel confident in my build to handle things on my own 😂
The intro was really fun, and the community engagement is always admirable!

Nioh 2 has two in the form of Mujina and Nurikabe, both of which you deal with non-violently

the mimics from Golden Sun
etc....

New idea for future list: 10 games where victory is impossible.
There probably aren’t that many games in the list - “Ski Free” for Windows perhaps (because you always get eaten by that yeti)? - but I do think it would be interesting to see if there are any games that simply exist to flip the bird at the player base.

One of my favorite Metroidvania games. It's challenging and incredibly fun.
Would have been a better game if it didn’t feel like I was fighting enemies with pool noodles

The skill trees for Salt & (Sanctuary & Sacrifice) are dense and intimidating. Like FFX where it's a bunch of circles that intersect. The rest of it is worth the weird.
I would call Steelrising as 'Lies of P at home'.

Remnant from the Ashes is absolutely incredible.
I am assuming that these are not in order from worst to best as Steelrising is mediocre at best, and does not hold a candle to Bloodbourne 2 (oops, I mean Lies of P) as Yarnham (oops I mean Kratt) is gorgeous and the combat is far superior.

The lack of Lords of the Fallen is disappointing.
As for some of the games listed; Code Vein isn't bad but it's kinda clunky, Star Wars was promising but the lack of i-frames was confusing, Lies of P is great for the gameplay but the story is so incredibly disjointed, and Steel Rising was also fun with the story of the automatons being interesting but the politics behind the revolution was immersion breaking.
I'm pretty sure I mentioned Hellpoint in the original video, so I'll repeat it for the inevitable Part 2

Asterigos is indeed a good game. The story might not be anything to write home about, but the gameplay is tight. Also, "deaths gambit" is another side scrolling souls like game similar to salt & sanctuary.
The character creator screen for nostalgaia was a good touch lol
Also steel rising was the easiest souls like ever boss wise lol i first tried 3/4 of them
Remnant from the ashes was actually the only "souls" (it is not a souls) I could play and mainly because there was coop, otherwise I wouldn't finish the story mode.... XD
Whelp, added 3 of these to my wishlist, 3 are already on my backlog. Some of em sounds cool in theory. Some of them either don't appeal because of aesthetic reasons or lack of apparent customization (I'm a perpetual fashion souls victim).
Steel Rising art style def got me at first but didn’t quite realize it was souls-like at time.
Who else thinks some visuals of Steel Rising could be switched out with ease with Lies of P

Asterigos is awesome. Thymesia and Steelrising both have cool premises but are somehow incredibly boring to play. Lies of P is infuriating in many parts, but it's easily the only non-souls game on this list to ever reach From levels of quality across the board.

Lies of P is one of the best games I’ve ever played and arguably stands on its own. Strongly recommended

Ninja Gaiden Black still gives me boss fight based nightmares, but what a game. Love that series
No bonfires, experience points, or regenerating enemies (these arent the ONLY parts but just huge ones that are needed). Its just hard for most

@@samuelmeasa9283 they are honestly really different, not even close. I could write a book but they really arent the same. The only thing thats the same is that they are hard action games. Just look at how different ninja gaiden and nioh are. Same developers only one is a soulslike. Would you consider devil may cry 3 a proto souls game?

Ive played every other game and own this one as well but hasn’t quite got to it yet. Heard it was solid gameplay but not very long.
The gameplay is very janky and it’s super bland. Idk why on earth people fawn over Thymesia when there’s so many other good soulslikes

Glad to see Fallen Order instead of Survivor. Both had things I didn't like a whole lot but definitely enjoyed Order more. The eventual story beats in Survivor just felt so lame lol

I prefered Lies of P over Elden Ring, the gameplay focusing on parrying, the atmosphere, the music, this game was good.
Then you'd probably enjoy the recent Lords of the Fallen

@asceticblur I don't know as an avid Fromsofter myself, I can see the appeal and want considering that Lies of P just has less things happening vs the massive amount of stuff to do in Elden Ring
@@malacrackatoa6623 Quantity was not the issue here. Elden Ring while being really great, I just found it repetitive and at the end I was glad I was done with it. Before people complains, I got the platinum trophy. Keep in mind it's my opinion only, I don't state it as a fact, so if ER is someones favorite game, I respect it.
The parry window was too tight and didn't like the fact basic skills in souls games were locked in the skill tree. Just finished elden ring again but still prefer bloodborne and the dark souls trilogy.
I for myself am pretty much fed up with souls-like games. Bring back old-school action RPG titles, much in the way of The Witcher or Fable, or even TES or the incoming Dragon's Dogma sequel.

I'm surprised God of War 2018 or God of War Ragnarok didn't make the list.
The thing about God of War and I really appreciate the fact is that it has nothing in common with souls game. The combat yes but it still comes with its own twist and the combat feels great and it is too big of a game that you don't need to slap souls like label on it. It is even bigger than Souls games itself.

Animesouls(codevein) was the worst souls like i ever played, the jank was so bad,the fighting was missing something, personalopinionobviously. But i did enjoy the character creator.
Don't worry you will see one next month pretty soon. Although technically not an anime settings but still has a strong anime vibes to me. Stellar Blade is dropping next months and it might be the first real souls like that I might pick up.
Lies of P was the best game if last year. Should be #1 in every list. Steelrising is not nearly as engaging.
