we would get out on the big drifts and drop baits through the holes with a big ball of night crawlers on the hook and get a few hookups on flathead that way , they are the ribeye of the catfish fillets . nice fish .our best was 50 lbs and we caught it on a skipjack shad.
One night me and my buddy were doing a flathead trip during the mayfly hatch. The bugs were thick on top of the water, and for probably a one mile stretch of river there were channel cats skimming the surface with their top lips out of the water just cruising around scooping up mouthfuls of bugs . I'm talking between 12"- 30" channels. 1#-10+# probably 250 of them or better. They were all below a large power plant downstream of the warm water run-out from the plants cooling system. Only time I've ever seen them ride the surface like that. Awesome video though
Now that was EXTREME! That camera angle gave me a sense of how it would actually feel to catch a beast (in the best way of the word. ). Your stronger than me that’s for sure. That was a really good tussle. Lol. What a great job. I really enjoyed the video 💯👍🏼

Hey bud fishing brush piles is my "specialty." I call it precision guided fishing like precision guided bombing because i put my bait right on top of them to do the most damage and then work the bait out around the snags when I'm moving my bait around. I have been fishing brush piles for 25 years and it's my favorite kind of fishing. You can't give them one inch of slack, hook getting turned around and out of the snag. I use 9 foot ugly stick with a Garcia 7000c3. You cannot beat the Garcia gear ratio and drag for not giving in when your cranking big flatheads out of heavy cover. But just a suggestion I only use one pole and I hold it the entire time I'm fishing heavy brush piles because I have more authority over my bait and can keep him moving when he's not or keep him from going deeper into the snag. It keeps it simpler when your fishing for 50 plus pound flatheads in that crap. Love the video!
Great show. I do a lot of wade fishing and just fish in the piles of brush. But I notice my hook up aren't that good. I'm using a 8ot big river made by guamagetzu. Should i be using a circle hook maybe since sometimes they slam it and I forget to set hook it happens so fast.
Holy crap man..I know your good at what you do but you are also one of the luckiest people I know lol.i would never get that lucky to lose a fish then get hit. Way to execute and get a beast.
