Ah yes, this game had some kind of bad rep for a time, where fans didn’t acknowledge it as a proper Silent Hill game: This is all caused by misinformation about the game, which stems from it being intended as an unrelated survival horror game titled ‘Room 302’, only intended as some kind of spin-off game to the main series. Fans interpreted the release of the game is only being named Silent Hill 4: The Room as it wouldn’t sell otherwise, whereas there has been some responses from the developers over time. What happened was that the series had become stale at that point to which Team Silent (the original developers of the Silent Hill games within Konami) wanted to try new things and the fourth installment would be a perfect opportunity to try those out. Some of those ideas worked, other did not. The reason why it felt different was not because it DIDN’T start out as a Silent Hill project, but that it WAS with some new elements added for experimentation instead of relying on fanservice (which the following games fell into). Did it have its own problems? Oh, sure! BUT, it also had some elements that worked out quite well - and whether the Silent Hill title came early on in development or not, it was ALWAYS gonna be developed by Team Silent; it was ALWAYS gonna feature music and sound from Akira Yakaoka; and it was ALWAYS gonna reference Jacob’s Ladder, Twin Peaks and Stephen King, all of which had influenced the series at that point - so it was always gonna be a Silent Hill game in spirit if not in practice. If you still didn’t like it, that’s perfectly alright as it wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea. Just don’t use “it’s not really a Silent Hill game” as an excuse to hate the game, as it is kind of a weak excuse.
18:40 -curious, i feel like i've heard you read this exact same thing earlier in this video, brain immediately jumping to ai-scripts, which saddens me since i can't even trust people do their own videos anymore..
@@Kazaonyt i think you said almost the same thing at the beginning, or within the first 10? minutes of your video, i can't remember if you did a summary first, maybe? supposedly, AI-scripts tends to repeat the same thing a couple of times throughout their videos, so hearing something being repeated, more or less, just immediately has me think about that nowadays. it's moreso the AI-videos taking over youtube, so even honest people can't make mistakes (or whichever word to use), without being mistaken for AI-scripts or voices
@@Konani_the_unicorn_queen I have never used AI to write my scripts. I summarised events that occurred before Henry moved into his apartment. When I was talking about the victims at the beginning. I mentioned Walters MO's, specifically about how some of the victims had their hearts intact. I did this to retain attention and give off a mysterious vibe. The note I was reading (which I obviously didn't write myself) mentions the MO's again. I don't understand how you would think that's AI since I mentioned it at the beginning using my own script. then it is mentioned again from a note within the game.
@@Kazaonyt oh, i just reacted to you saying it twice then, in the beginning, and then when you read the note. and pardon, i wasn't saying you were using ai, specifically, just that the repeat triggered what i've learned of those videos/scripts, if they weren't a thing, i wouldn't have thought twice about it, but sadly they are.
Its been a dog's age since I played the game, but I like to think that once Walter gets got that the ghosts in his other worlds are set free. owo/ Then again, I might just be being overly positive. It IS Silent Hill after all. ^^;;;
I feel like the thing that sticks out to me the most about Walter is that he continues the thematic through line of the original trilogy of the horror being deeply rooted in the sexual objectification of women and girls and the patriarchy by extension. Silent Hill 1&3 are both about adults forcibly impregnating a minor and how it requires the actions of men who reject the framing of the victim as a sexual object whose purpose is defined by reproduction for them to assert bodily autonomy. It's Harry's love as a parent and the administration of a medicine to induce an abortion that allows her to reassert her agency over her own body. Silent Hill 2 is very much rooted in the way that James relates to women and how he objectifies them. His decision to kill his wife is another form of objectification and is arguably motivated by his frustration over the lack of sexual gratification in their relationship. Walter has come to the conclusion that Henry's room is the womb of his absent mother - reducing her to a literal object that is entirely represented by her reproductive organs. He seeks to possess her and his killings are a combination of punishing women and targeting the people who are seen as competing for ownership of the apartment, such as the Landlord and Henry himself. The narrative also sees Henry confront his voyeuristic tendencies, starting to think about the other characters as people rather than oblivious subjects for his photography. I feel like the most clear difference between these four games and the later entries is this lack of focus on women's issues. They are generally much more focused on the mental state of the protagonists (with some exceptions, such as Origins and Shattered Memories, which takes the original game and reinterprets it in a way that initially appears to shift focus onto Harry but ultimately does focus on Cheryl). These games are really well executed narratives about the way women are treated in society and how men relate to them in ways that are both deeply disturbing and genuinely positive and helpful. I want to be clear, when I mention patriarchy I'm not saying that the thesis of these games is that men are awful. It's actually more so that men who genuinely treat women respectfully are necessary to undo the harm that is done to women and girls on an institutional level. It's arguable that the most reprehensible characters in these stories are women who are caught up in a culture of misogyny and find their place in perpetuating that harm onto other women and girls. Men in these stories have to act in the interests of women in order to reduce the amount of harm that is being done to them and even Heather in Silent Hill 3 would never have been able to escape her situation if it wasn't for the actions of people like her adoptive father and a couple of other men who went against the orders of people who wielded authority over them. That doesn't diminish her achievements in overcoming the cult and asserting her bodily autonomy, it reflects the nature of institutional power structures that someone who is marginalised and denied full agency and personhood cannot defeat that power as an individual acting alone.
Have always been drawn to Silent hill series. But 4 was something else. It attacked the the psyche. It was very unnerving. And every-time I started the game , it was as willingly I was asking to be possessed. I was waiting for Ragnarox to do this. But man !!! Thankyou so much. It is one of the most under appreciated form of a video game narratives and I think thats the beauty of Silent hill 4. A weird french / Italian esoteric murder mystery novel that is buried deep within the wrong section of a library rather than contemporary mass produced stuff. Thankyou once again. ❤. Tc yo !!
I never liked silent hill 4, I found it to be... Too bright (?) At times. But I am a sucker for the lore aspects of this game! Especially when the creator use in-game footage *and* explain instead only talk.
Blooper team, despite all expectations, did I FINE job of remakes SH2. I know it has its critics, often fair, and I do not think they could Independently create something of Silent Hill quality without the thick groundwork of Team Silent laid, but I will be incredibly interested in which direction they go next. Silent Hill 1 remake (most needed graphically)? Silent Hill 3 remake (next in narrative order)? Or Silent Hill 4 remake (most in needed of gameplay tuneups)? I've lost an awful lot of faith in Konami as a company, but I do think Silent Hill is a story that has the capacity to be retold. But I honestly couldn't bet where the remake-lens points next, after The Fan Favourite.

If you still didn’t like it, that’s perfectly alright as it wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea. Just don’t use “it’s not really a Silent Hill game” as an excuse to hate the game, as it is kind of a weak excuse.
18:40 -curious, i feel like i've heard you read this exact same thing earlier in this video,
brain immediately jumping to ai-scripts, which saddens me since i can't even trust people do their own videos anymore..
What? I’m literally reading a note from the game… this is the only time i read it in this video. So you’re mistaken
@@Kazaonyt oh, i just reacted to you saying it twice then, in the beginning, and then when you read the note.
and pardon, i wasn't saying you were using ai, specifically,
just that the repeat triggered what i've learned of those videos/scripts,
if they weren't a thing, i wouldn't have thought twice about it, but sadly they are.
Great video 👍😎
Thanks a lot 😁
I see what you did there with your username and I approve wholeheartedly

Whats the song at the beginning
@@toxicgrip4124 silent hill 4 - sunrise
Its been a dog's age since I played the game, but I like to think that once Walter gets got that the ghosts in his other worlds are set free. owo/ Then again, I might just be being overly positive. It IS Silent Hill after all. ^^;;;
4 is my favorite and is part of silent hill
What the song called that plays at 3:52? :D

Yo !!!!!! Thanks a lot man. ❤
No problem :D
Especially when the creator use in-game footage *and* explain instead only talk.

no, walter is the original plan
Have you played this game? Right pronounce of Henry's surname is present in a game. How can you make a mistake there? Dislike, don't recommend this channel.
