Genuinely appreciate your transparency! I just got mine in a bundle deal. It’s my first new camera in 10 years.
Thanks Kahtya! I hope it serves you as well as my one did me!
Yes , for still photography its a beast as a hobbyist photographer or for even semi pro photographer if you have the right lenses. And one of the features no one talks about is the inbuilt interval timer shooting and timelapse making too! Its so convenient and useful! Just get this camera , get a sigma 17-50 or something with a 35 or 50 1.8 prime, 70-300 kit lens and thats one hell of a setup
Wow.. :o - I got exactly the setup you've mentioned above, but for my old D3200 and D5200 ( Sigma 17-50 F2.8, Nikon 35mm F1.8 and Nikon 55-300 ) - I would switch both of these old guys with a D5600, for playing with WiFi and that touch screen new features...
I just came across this video today, and to say that I'm astonished by this review would be an understatement. I've had this camera for over 3 years and have been taking photos both with film and DSLRs for 40 years and to say photos are "pretty decent" does a great disservice to this camera. Using the lens you're using, which is also my prime lens, I have taken some of the greatest photos of my life. As far as autofocus, I'm not clear on your objection. It seems to work quickly and flawlessly for me for photos. I have no comment on the video as that's not something that I've ever used. Here is a little hint. You're a young guy. You can upgrade 30 more times in your life, but if you master this camera or any DSLR your camera will never take better pictures than it can today, but you will. Develop your skills and passion for picture taking and you'll find that you don't need to keep upgrading for more camera help.
He is absolutely correct about the autofocus in video mode. The camera is best suited for photography and not videography. The same goes for the Nikon D3500 and older Nikon non-professional DSLR camera models. I do use these Nikon cameras, but for Photography only. For video, I use Canon and Sony. Additionally, I use aftermarket battery grips on all of my Nikon DSLR's to improve battery life. I haven't tried using Panasonic.
Nikon 5600 is a camera designed for photography primarily which for a crop sensor takes great photos, the kit lenses poor but a decent 18-140mm, a 35mm 1.4 a 50mm 1.4 is you need and budget flash gun from amazon is all you need for a decent kit. Video is on this not the greatest but it’s not a video camera it’s stills camera. I have 4 cameras 2 DX and 2 Full frames and I still prefer the 5600 it’s the perfect learning and travel camera as it’s size and compactness is perfect just to have me on most days. Despite having lots of pro cameras I would never get rid of my D5600 as it’s my favoured one of the bunch and produced some very good work on this camera.
I would recommend this to anyone starting out, anyone on a budget or for a camera for a family to take portraits and travel snaps, which will blow away any photos taken on a phone or basic point and shoot
@WILLIAM WEST yes it’s an ok all rounder
@@billrankin can I use it for wedding photography
@@hemachandran3274 yes with a decent lens is a great camera just small sensor
@@billrankin should I go with d5600 or d7500 for professional and long use?

Got my D5600 a couple years ago and it's my favorite dslr! The auto focus can be annoying, especially at night, but otherwise I feel like it's a good cammera!
Couldn't agree more!
Great video. To get smoother motion use 1/50 shutter speed if your shooting 24 FPS or 1/60 if your shooting 30 FPS
Sone has actually read the manual 👍
I actually get better results with 1/50 shutter speed and 30fps. With 1/60 it still looks a little bit choppy.
Thankfully I bought this camera in 2019..........late December 2019. But I’m loving it haha
Couldnt agree more with you! As of today I do have a D5600 and it works fine; the autofocus isn't the best part of it but personally I'm not a videomaker or filmographer. I am a photographer this is my daily driver for photography and it works really well with the kit lens. Additionally, I do have other lenses which is a key thing as the kit lens doesn't offer much of the benefits I need. For a basic/beginner or even a professional photographer it is well thought out. Thank you for the great vid!
It is good for photos, I have used the D5100 for 7 years photos....for covering events and all. But... ... It worked just fine. You should use the focus mode where you can select the focus point and that way you'll nail almost all photos.
So, it is good or not? "it worked just fine" is like sayint to a chef that his food was "easy to swallow"
Do you even English? It reads just fine more like an auto type error, if you want to be padantic, as looks like it’s wrote on a fone 🤦♂️
Just wanted to add: Everything he said about video is completely right. Concerning photography though the focus is really great, with the right lenses you can take really excellent and crisp photos. So I would say it's an amazing deal for photos but videos just aren't the thing of this camera.
Great comment! Glad you agree with me 😉
thanks bro for the video .. you honesty is really appreciated .. yes i was about buying one .. but i am still in research about which camera to go for . . thanks again
You're so welcome! I'm glad I could help!
Thank you for this, because im planning to buy nikon d5600 now i change my mind
Glad to hear it!!
I put a battery grip on my D5600,now I have two batteries in my camera.More shots.Putting your camera on airplane mode the batteries last longer between charges.
i didn't find any issue in video auto focus if you use AF-P lens. for prime lens go for manual focus and get enough aperture that your subject moves then also stays focused.
That’s a definite option and I hope it works for you but for me personally, I didn’t like the look I got when I tried that as a solution in my context.
Great.Love the way how you explained.I am glad to be watching this.
Thanks for review. This is exactly what I was looking for
You’re great man. Honest, personable, great voice to listen to and informative. I’ll subscribe and look forward to more videos. I was hoping to get this camera to make videos as well as take photos of photos and nature. I see that I need to look for another camera. If you have any recommendations of any under £600 I’d be grateful. Thank you!
Hi! Thank you, you’re so kind 😊 Hmm, that’s a tough one. Which is more important? Video or photos? For me personally, I really like the Canon M50 - that’s what I would buy. It’s pretty good for video as far as I know and you could always buy a lens with a bigger zoom when you’re ready? Maybe there’s a better solution, but that’s what I would do 😊
@@davebetts Thank you so much for your help. I didn't realise that getting both in a camera for high quality requires more money spent, I'll check the M50 out. Thank you :D
Thank you for this video! It’s been helpful. I really need a gateway camera for me to get into again. I think I might just go for it and upgrade later on maybe idk waaa
Sounds good. There are some good deals out there!
@@davebetts hi...now D5600 Nikon is out of stock...any substitute for that in same budget and quality?Thank you
@@mohammadnaseer3070 Hi! To be completely honest with you I don't know every camera in this price point as well as I should, but I would regularly recommend the Canon M50!
Thanx for this video. I was about to buy this camera for vlogging and making video in general. But now that I know that the autofocus is so bad, i won't buy it anymore.
Leroy Peters I think that’s a good call! It would be ok, but if you found it as challenging as I did it might not be worth it!
for this price, the canon 800D is amazing for video, but i feel that the colors on the nikon are better.
Rd242000 super helpful to know. Thanks!!
You are 10,000% right.
Buy a Nikon D5500 after 2020 only of you want to stay on the cheap and will only shoot photos
I have been a hobbyist for just over 50 years.
My very first Nikon was an F2 (I wish I still had it).
My first Nikon digital was a D50.
Recently went mirrorless with my first F6, later sold most of my Nikon DSLR stable.
I kept a red D5500 with a couple of lenses. It is used very little, but when I do is like going home.
I liked your post, enjoy your camera.
Hi there. With regards to the button placement of your nikon d5600, my advice for you is to just continue using the camera, familiarize the buttons and functions, overtime you will get use to it. I understand that you are confused of the button placements since you are mainly using panasonic camera. I am using nikon Dslr's for 10 years now, I started with nikon d3000.. Then nikon d90.. I Maximized the full potential of those cameras regardless of the pros and cons both for my personal use and photography business. Then March of this year, I upgrade to full frame.. I bought nikon d610. My lenses are Nikkor 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 AF-S, Nikkor 50mm f1.8D, Nikkor 24-120mm f3.5-5.6, Tokina 28-70mm f2.8 AT-X Pro and Tamron 70-300mm. I am not a hybrid shooter and I don't do videos, only photos. I am still using my d3000 and d90 as my back-up cameras and both cameras are still in good condition and currently with the same shutter count of 89,000... Still long way to go. Even d610 has pros and cons too... Actually, any camera brands either micro 4/3, apsc dslr/mirrorless, full frame dslr/mirrorless still have pros and cons. It is really up to the consumer/user/photographer/videographer to operate and manipulate the camera that they are using.. On how to maximize the full potential of the camera based on his/her talent, skills, techniques.
Jp A wow! Great reply!! Thanks for taking so long to respond. I’m really glad you’ve made the most of your Nikon camera. I really do think they are good for photography and perhaps they are good for video too, but I am very happy with my GH5 for that. I make 4-6 videos a week (not all TH-cam) so video was just more of a priority for me really.
@@davebetts you're welcome! That's really good to know.. All of us have our own personal preference in terms of our camera/s and gears for photos and videos.. JP I have a question man
Thanks for that! I wanted to start doing videos on d5600 but looks like it it is not going to be easy. Nice work! 👍👍
This has been incredibly helpful. Much thanks to you and yours.
So glad to hear it! Thanks very much for commenting, it means a lot!
This guy is underrrated.....He deserves more
This is exactly what I was looking for!!!
I love this camera. I've used it for years. My only two complaints are that it won't use the ML-L3 remote. Snapbridge sucks with many disconnects and sluggish operation. It's worthless. Secondly, the video tracking is poor.
Just got the D5600 to replace my D3500 cause of that screen and the mic input as well. Planning to get a battery grip as well!
I'm upgrading from D3100 to D5600 for the wireless transfer capability, longer lasting battery, 24 MP, better controls as well as flip and touch screen. Won't use it for video.
Did you try astrophotography on the camera? If yes, how did it perform? If not, how was it in general night time shots?
Dude, it is a camera and mainly for taking pictures. When you talk about autofocus in video mode is terrible you should use a handy cam rather. I bet that handy cam would not take same quality image what NIKON can. However, I assume the NIKON can not brew coffee too or autopilot your car. Correct me if I wrong.
Totally fair opinion, but the camera does actually sell itself as a hybrid - being able to take great video too. Unless I missed it, I didn't see the part of the ad that said "autofocus in video mode is terrible, use a handy cam instead". Actually, my NIKON has been driving my car for about three years now. Just switch it to auto and you'll be good man!
Haha thanks for commenting. I hear what you're saying but you'd be surprised at how many people have, like me, bought this camera with video as well as stills in mind. Have a great day Catoom!
It is better to shoot the video with a video camera. It is specially adapted for this purpose. Universalism is not always good. The Nikon D5600 is primarily a camera. With replaceable optics, it takes very good photos. There is a large selection of lenses here.
I got a D3500 because at that time I didn't plan on recording TH-cam videos (it doesn't have an articulated screen). but now I barely take pictures and film a lot, so I guess I fudget up.
I'm planning on selling the D3500 to get the D5600.
That's EXACTLY what I did! Easy thing to do 😂
I actually just made another video talking about this - I really like the Canon M50 for a similar price point. Whatever you decide, I hope it works out for you!
@@davebetts Haha what a coincidence. Honestly, the Canon M50 looks better for video, but for some reason it is +$250 more expensive than the D5600 in my country.
@@carlosreyesf19 ah I'm sorry to hear that! If I could possibly give you advice based on my own experiences, I'd encourage you to be patient and make sure you are getting the camera that's right for you. It might take longer to save for, but actually it might be cheaper in the long run as you won't have to upgrade it! But I know we don't always have that time - I'm always in a serious hurry to buy new tech (much to my wife's discomfort!!)
Keep me posted. Hope you find the right camera for you!
@@davebetts that's true. It may be better to wait for the camera I really want. In the end I have my D3500 for now, it's not like I have nothing.
@@carlosreyesf19 exactly. And it looks like your channel is doing really well! Great work!
Thanks for taking the time to put this video together, I was looking to possibly buy a camera and this was one that I was looking at, however, I've now had a mind change thanks to your honest opinion, I've subscribed to your channel now, and look forward to watching more videos like these, do you own any cameras that are good for auto focus and video recording, and also have great picture quality?
Thanks so much for subscribing! I own a Panasonic GH5 and have just bought a G9 as a B cam...maybe one day I'll try sent cams to review, but today is not that day 😂
Yep. Very helpful. Was a week away from buying this specific camera for making videos... will look at the Panasonic now. Thanks for the heads up😉

Appreciate your feedback! I just ordered myself a used one for 400 bucks. I want to use it to learn photography
Nice! It’s a good choice for photography 🙂
So i was using this body for a while, and totally agree with what Dave said. If you're about to use this as your still, its totally still worthy especially when your previous camera was the older d5000ish or d3000ish. The iso range is good (i found it still produce useable image at iso 4000 for instagram and other social media), the weight is far lighter comparing to my d5200, and no AA filter makes it just slightly better performing at low light. Pair it with some good glass you could got a really good result with this boi, i shoot many product with my tamron 90mm macro and the result was always pleasing!
But once you talking about video, because i think more consumer shifting more and more toward video, this body just not in a league. Still worst autofocus. Changing for a7c for my video lol
what are you on about the battery life and autofocus is good especially with the af-p lenses.
Also get a 70-300 af-p it's stunning for the price
That's a fair opinion - I didn't find that to be the case though. I don't own this anymore - now I have a Pansonic GH5 and couldn't be more happy with it!
Why not just buy a video camera if you want to take video?? Use a camera like the 5600 for stills. It is capable of taking pretty good pictures with prime lenses.
That's a great question - I think the main reason is that most people can't afford to have both...plus travelling with one DLSR-sized cameras is challenging, let alone two!
I agree - use D5600 for stills, it's pretty strong there. But if you want something that can do both (as many people do), this perhaps isn't the best route.
Funny. I just upgraded to a fuji xt3. This morning I took my nikon 5600 out. Gotta tell ya, for what it is, it's great. Light and easy to learn with quality photos. However, like you say, stay away from video.
I've been saving up to get a Canon Mirrorless but rn I have the Nikon D5600
Im confuse between d5600 and canon 200d mark ii it will be my first
THE PHOTOFACTORY I don’t know much about the Canon 200d - I’d be interested to learn more though!
I have had Nikon before and hopefully, the few lenses that I might use with a DSLR, like the 500mm telephone, will be compatible with these newer Nikons. I wanted something in the $500-600 range with as many pixels as possible. The articulated viewing screen was a big factor as I'd previously had a cool pix which had the ability the move the screen. You don't realize how handy that feature is until you don't have it.
I haven't discovered all the bells and whistles on this camera yet, but for the casual to serious photographer, but maybe not professional, I like this camera and think it will get the job done.
I didn't buy it for the wifi and bluetooth and am just now discovering that. Not sure about the snapdragon app but it gives you the ability to remotely take pictures on your cellphone while you view the live video. When you take a pic, it uploads a smaller version of the picture to your phone.
The package I got had a 50 (or was it 55mm) and 100mm zoom lenses included for about $550. I've spent a few bucks more on CPL and UV filters for it. I haven't tried doing video with it yet but have heard it's not that good.
Even considering that Nikon is suffering financially, I think it's still worth the money and should perform well for several years. There are newer models and more pixels out there but this one won't break the bank and gets the job done. I will have more features than the average user will probably use. But, it's nice to know they're there, if you need them.
R T totally agree! Hope it works out really well for you!
@@davebetts , yes, it seems to be working well for me. I haven't tried the video part yet but find the battery lasts a long time. But, that may change as I recently enabled the bluetooth and wifi.
Glad to have found your videos.
Shoot in ‘aperture’ mode and you should get great pictures.
We just bought this camera new three week ago! :D It was made in 2016/17? But it was on sale and was $400 off when we bought it for $1000 (down from $1400) Australian dollars, and it came with two different lenses. :)
You are honest... you provide the good things about this camera and also the falls of it when taking video...
Look at the video advances by Canon and Sony. If video is important to you, avoid the D5600.
Just have bought this yesterday
I sold my D3500 because I love photography and honestly I want to improve my photos a lot! I think once I get the 5600 I’ll have it for a long time
If you love photography, go for a pro-Sumer model, or get the old but quality Nikon d90, unless you making billboard size prints 12MP is more than enough. Also if you want to improve in photography invest in quality lenses
As you’ll just be wasting model on with very little in growth potential
Valerie, that's an odd premise. So, you're going under the assumption that with each upgrade your pictures will be better? That's the problem with DSLRs, they sell people that premise so you keep upgrading for the rest of your life. Does that mean that with each succeeding upgrade the pictures are better? Of course not. I doesn't matter if you have a $10,000 DSLR, your pictures still won't match professional photographers using film in the 1930s. Once you get the D5600 you should have it for the rest of your life unless it breaks. Develop your technique and you'll never upgrade again.
Such an honest review. Subbed!
Thanks so much!
Good video. I’m only taking stills on mine and just can’t seem to get landscape shots crisp, even using back button focus.
Thanks David! I'm sorry to hear that. Could it be the lens maybe?

@@notifrrr depends. If you are into content creation with videos and stuff, you could opt for Canon. But nikon excels in still photo. I am a beginner so this was enough for me. I did buy an additional 18-140 mm lens additionally which cost around 22k Indian Rupees.
XT200 or D5600 and why? Which one is better? I'm a beginner.
Hi, thanks for commenting! For me it's easy - the D5600...just because I've never used an XT200 ;) Sorry I can't give you a more definitive answer!
Dave, i thank-you so much for your HONNEST review and that you mentioned to the folks that the Video autofocus is rubbish and not usable in Video. It is usable for still image perfectly, but rubbish when it come to video. the issues are, noisy, hesitation, it refocus even if nothing moves in the scene and get confused lot of time then stop focusing at all, it do not focus at all if the ambiant light is tiny low and ruine your video for good, no option to set the video autofocus reaction time or speed or sensitivity, you wanna a slow focus and a bit of slow focus reaction time with video however the video autofocus it become slower when you push record button, but still not usable.
Don't worry still image focus is amount the greatest in the market of DSLR, not the Mirrorless market though.
Lets face it guys and friends, we are in year 2020 the beginning of Phones photography era. I don't understand Nikon with the D series camera in 2020 that lacking the Video focus and still selling them to the beginners poor guys. Nikon should removed the entire D serie and replace it with a decent affordable Mirrorless cameras with APSC sensor. Nikon should made the Canon approach and introduce the affordable 24mm f2.8 lens light and compact but instead they only offer the 35mm f1.8 and 50mm f1.8 great lens but not enough.
Who want a heavy, bulky DSLR nowadays that not able to shoot correctly a simple video? If in any mean you need that beginner DSLR, then i recommande you to stay away from Nikon, go get your self a Mirrorless from Canon, Sony, Panasonic... this last brands are affordable like Nikon but they are so much advanced then Nikon!! If you are beginner in Photography learn first with the Kit lens , usually they are plenty enough for everything, then make your lens choose later on, this will save you a lot of money.
I own the D5500 with 18-140mm + 35mm f1.8. bought it in late 2015. I have two regrets, first i got the 18-140mm instead of 18-55mm kit lens, the 18-140mm is bulky and very heavy to carry around for a day of shooting, i never shoot over 50mm, mostly 18 to 30mm maximum, so i bought the 35mm 1.8 because it let more light in and very light, but not suitable for video as it lack the stabilisation and the autofocus is too much noisy in video, this lens not suitable in tight space as you need distance from the subject, however it is a wonderful lens for photography very sharp and plenty of color, a must have for outside photography, 35mm is magical lengt, the photos looks alive, i don't know how to explain it but that 35mm lens is magical, i love it (it is equivalent 50mm in FF terms, you can get the same magical hotos from any lens brand with 50mm FF term). Second regret is the Video autofocus performance of the D5500 is a desaster. I'm not a professional but a family photographer, i take pictures and video of my happy family. I'm not capable of pulling the focus manually during video from a tiny low quality display of the D5500. Even if you pull the focus manually still there is noise can be picked up from internal mic, every time you turn the focus ring you induce vibrations to the footage. When you manually focus in video, you need to keep in mind the scene focus, frame the subject, not moving and shaking the camera, same time you are seeking around outside the display where to go and where is the next move/frame. This is a lot to do when you manually focus the video. I invested in a RODE mic but still picking the focus noise from the 18-140mm and the 35mm lens, I'm frustrated a lot, i should bought the SONY A6000 with kit 16-50mm, it is light compact and still have the same good APS-C sensor from D5500, yes the same one.😀
Today I own a better smartphone for around 300euro, it make beautiful successful photos and videos. Since then i stop using the D5500 and only use my phone when I go to events with my family and never miss my DSLR again and forgot about it sadly. The reason i turned using the smartphone, because it is always hiding in the pocket ready to shoot videos and pictures when you need it the most, very light and take no space. The D5500 despite it is light weight and compact size it is still a DSLR heavy and bulky to be carry around for a day long. I compared my phone images quality and the D5500, I can hardly tell a difference with the kit lens. As I mentioned I'm not a professional making my life from photos, I'm not a journalist, I'm just a father taking photos of the family for souvenirs. I don't care about Bokeh that much, because i need the background to show and tell the story around the location it works like the GPS later on to remember where this photo was taken. Agree the Bokeh is almost a must in portrait photography, but i can get around it no problem with my smartphone.
Photo Hope wow! Thanks for taking so much time to comment. Great thoughts ☺️
@@davebetts Hey Dave. I want to inform the beginners out there to not make my mistake and stay away from Nikon. In my only opinion in 2020 Nikon D series are a trap for beginners who seeking to learn photography but also to enjoy videography because both are tighten together . Nikon just missed the point.
Photo Hope that’s fair. I still think they are great little cameras as long as you know their strengths and weaknesses but your opinion is totally justified ☺️
Any able to give me some pointers? I'm brand new to this art and dont even own a camera yet. I'll be doing video and photos of stars, the moon, (stellar stuff) and probably landscape, mountains etc.
It seems like the "go-to" for that is the Nikon p900 (or now 950) but i really dont know anything about photography (yet).... for what I want to do, should I go with D5600 (and do I need to get "nifty 50" or should I go with the Nikon P950 (or p900 but I was told 950 is much better).... Appreciate any insight and comments that can help.
*also, was told that a Canon 6ti or D60? (trying to stay under $1000)
Hey! Sorry for the late reply here - just saw this comment now.
I don't have much experience on sky photography (it's something I'd love to get into though). There are a few nifty little gadgets that move the camera with the sky for super long exposures which look really great. Cameras with the longest possible exposures would be really helpful.
I'm actually not familiar with those cameras so I don't have much to offer - but my advice would be to really think about the lenses you want to get, as well. I've got a Pansonic GH5 which I LOVE, but the lense is not as nice as the f/1.8 35mm lens I had for my Nikon so I'm not loving the pics as much just yet.
I know that's pretty basic stuff but really hope that helps!
Great video! 🙌 quick question! I was about to buy one used and I came across your video and now I'm scared it's not for me. I want to photograph my 2 toddlers who are always on the move! So if the autofocus is not as great as you said then I should avoid it? Which camera do you reccomend?
Jessy Sellars Hi! Thanks for the question! I think the autofocus is fine for photos - which is really what it’s for...it’s really video where it struggles. As long as it’s photos you’re looking for, I think it’ll be great for you 🙂
@Jessy Sellars : How much do you want to spend? A used D7200 or D7500 will give you better, faster auto focus on moving subjects, such as children running about... And the D500 will be better still, but at a price. I've got a used D5500 which is almost identical (lacks the SnapBridge Bluetooth connectivity) and a used Sigma 17-70 f/2.8/4 lens which lets in more light than the kit zoom, and I don't have any focusing issues for stills. Video is another matter but I don't shoot video anyway. Battery life I find is outstandingly good, maybe over 700 shots per charge but I don't spend time reviewing every photo on the rear screen. And this camera is light too, not much of a burden to carry round all day. Have you bought yet, and if yes, what did you get and are you happy with it?
Now I have a question, I'm thinking of getting this for my birthday as a present from my mother next month, now. I currently have the Fujifilm Finepix HS30exr, would you say this camera is worth the switch? Thank you and also, great video! Subscribed!
Thanks so much for subscribing! I'm excited that you have the chance to get a new camera - fun times!
What is your focus? If you want to take photos only, I think this is a good option (consider the Nikkor 35mm 1.8 lens too, it's great). For video, it's not bad but not great. But that sounds like a GREAT lens choice...you'd have so many options with an 18-140 lens!
If I was in your position knowing what I know now, personally I would save just a little bit extra and buy the Canon M50 for this kind of budget. But that's just me! Let me know what you decide to go with in the end :)
Dave Betts I can send you a link to the fujifilm that I’m upgrading from to see if you can work out the focus 😅
Dave Betts this is the link ☺️ www.ephotozine.com/article/fujifilm-finepix-hs30exr-bridge-camera-review-19047
That lenses works great on the D5600
ChapperzHannah really sorry! Forgot to reply to this! Did you decide which camera to go for?
Is it unlimited filming ?
Is d5600 are good in photography than d850?? Pls answer ❣️
I'm sorry, I don't know much about the 850!
The autofocus is bad in live-view but in the view finder works well
Syrtis 21 I think it’s great for photos but bad for videos personally - regardless of whether it’s in the viewfinder or live view. But if you find it works better in the view finder that’s great!
Hey man, new subscriber here, recently last year, I wanted to buy a DSLR 3400 sadly it didn't happened, my budget was low to the point where I need to earn some more money to purchase that cam. And right now, I'm still deciding it what type of DSLR should I buy including the Nikon 3400, is this a quality Budget for us the beginners? I would love to if u give us some recommendations of what DSLR we should buy. I'm just a beginner here😀 I want to learn more about these stuffs, I love taking pictures and videos in my cellphone. Yet I want to explore something that gives me passion about photography.
Yeah I think the D3400 is a good practice camera. It’s good for the price, but you may well find yourself wishing you had a better camera down the road. To be honest, I’m not sure what would be a decent comparable option at that price point. Sorry!
@@davebetts Aight bro, thanks!!!
Yes!!! I love mine!!!
is it a good choice if I need to take photos and videos?
Yeah I think it’s fine - it’s not bad for video, but it’s not great. Good for photos though!
@@davebetts thanks) surfing the internet I came across came across Canon 800d. I think it is better for me. Good day
I just bought a second Nikon D5500 for 305 uk pounds
What are some good cameras to make TH-cam sit down videos with that have great battery life? Open to any brand. Canon, Nikon, and etc.
For me personally, I’d go for the Canon M50 as a relatively low priced camera, and then look at Panasonic GH5 or Sony A7iii for higher priced cameras. But that’s just me!
sir About sony a6000 mirrorless camera still worthy in 2020 .
So, I dragged my d700 and d300s out the cupboard which I hadn’t used for years. They are great. But I was stunned how massive they were. Af noise you are talking about in the D5600., RTFM.
So what camera for video would you recommend in the same price range? Still the Panasonic? I just picked up a 5600 to get into better than iPhone quality and the first thing I noticed was the loud auto focus in the video. It’s pretty bad. I hear the news 18-55 afp helps but I still have a return window... so I’d rather start off in the right foot.
Sorry, missed this comment here. I'd recommend the Canon M50 at the moment, but in all honesty, I haven't tried too many cameras at this price point so I'd definitely recommend shopping around a bit first!
@@davebetts Thanks! I actually went with a Canon M50 ii - so I'm glad this is your recommendation!
@@whatsryancooking Awesome! Glad to hear it!
I shopped around 20 stores in my area and couldn’t find one Nikon d5600 In stock and the only camera I ended up finding in stock a Sony a7lll so I took it, it was the last one in stop but almost triple the price of the Nikon but felt like I had no choice so I bought the Sony a7lll which was around 2250.00 after tax. Do you think it’s a decent camera and I’ve always been a Nikon man but kinda did have a choice the Sony was the last one In stop out of everybody atore I went too. Is there any advice you can give me on the Sony a7lll?
Sorry for the slow response, but I think you made a great choice!
Staying away. Thanks for the good info.
You're so welcome!
Is this a good camera for astrophotography?
Hi! Sorry about the slow reply here. I don't see why it wouldn't be if you had the right lenses and possibly one of those fancy star tracker things! Obviously, it's not going to be the very best, but I bet you could get some really good pics!
So if I didn't care about shooting video (given the terrible autofocus) is it still a great photography camera? I just want to shoot some great pictures really.
Sorry for the slow reply here! I think so. If I just wanted to take solid pictures and not video I would have been very happy with it. The picture quality improves hugely with a decent lens too.
Is there's any camera better than this in this price range?!!!
For photography only!!
Hi Abir! To be honest with you, I don’t really know. Although I think, if I were to go back and buy again, I’d pick a Canon at this price range 😊
Thank you so much dave ☺️ for suggesting.
Great advice!
Thanks Roxanne!
What is prize??
Brother I need your help, I am a beginner in Photography, I am only in to photography and not in to videography. So please suggest me Which one should I buy? Nikon D3500 or Nikon D5600 ? Waiting for your reply. Or any other device in same price range?
I would say go for D5600. It’s a great camera for photography!
@@davebetts Thanks bro
Would this be a suitable camera for a feature film?
I would say probably not to be honest!
now am more confuse than ever .. i want to buy that camera for my girlfriend should i go for it ..should i buy a 3500 instead or should i go for canon .. so confuse now
kiracons are you looking for a camera that takes great video or a camera that takes great photos? I’d recommend this over a d3500 but also the Canon M50!
@@davebetts i want it to do both good ..is my first camera.. first i want the quality of pictures and second the video ... i dont know if dslr is dead though cause of the mirrorless cameras ..maybe is the worst time to buy one ? other say go for mirrorless others say try the dslr learn and then you will choose your path ... i like to be able to upload the pictures as fast as i can .. am like i dont know .. maybe ill buy the d5600 and see how it goes .. m50 battery as i saw is very bad .best battery is d3500 , so i think maybe the worst think about d5600 is the price .. my head will explode with so many reviews i saw ..
thanks for answering and if you have any answers of what i all said it will be appreciate.. :)
kiracons I think it’s great that you want to use your money well - that’s important. But ultimately, so many of these cameras are great and will serve you well. If it helps you grow as a photographer, then it’s serving its purpose 😊
@@davebetts you fill me up with this answer ill go for it and ill be back with some comments ! :) soon!
If you want to film video, you can just use manual focus.
I had a really hard time with manual focus - good for B-roll and stuff but for the kind of videos like this one...just had a brutal time with it. Any advice for getting good manual focus?
@@davebetts buy a yummy wide-angle 28 or 24mm ai or ais lens
@@davebetts or better yet trade it in for a sony a7c, it looks more your thing
What’s the lens, is it the older AF-S or newer AF-P ?
I'm really sorry, I have no idea! I sold it a while back so I can't even check for you.
Desperately updating from a D60
Do you have a link to yore lence you are using 35mm one?=)
Hi! Yes there's a link in the description 🙂
Hi Dave,
Quick question for you and others who may see this if you don't mind, the more opinions the better...
I rather stupidly sold my camera gear 18 months ago or so as I am not well, and my gear was too heavy for me :(
I'd switched to Nikon from Canon a few years prior as I needed lighter equipment, and got a D5200 & a D5300 which I really enjoyed. (For what seems like centuries, I used fully manual Pentax 35mm gear, then moved to the Canon DSLR equipment, then to Nikon DSLR). I sold the D5200 - and got a D700 - I loved that, but way, way too heavy for my now decreased strength and hands.
The second I sold my cameras I felt 'naked' and the anxiety levels went through the roof so I bought an 'almost new' second hand basic kit D5000 and I am not a great fan.
With money being extremely tight on disability, but still needing to do some photography for my sanity more than anything, and wanting to get back into Equine Photography - shows, events, home shoots for portraits and stud work etc if I can - I don't know when I'll have a good day or bad, so it's hard to book stuff, I'm better showing up at events, shooting and then posting the proofs for folk to see and let them know they're up. I even find, for example, using the phone to type this difficult - autocorrect is my friend. Lol.
Anyhow, I know my way around cameras manually, as well as semi and fully auto but tend to shoot in shutter priority due to the nature of the beast so to speak that is my subject.
My little D5000 is good size and weight wise in my hands, though is still very tiring and painful by the end of the day. Thankfully the bag can hang on my power wheelchair or mobility scooter - I've lost my monopod somewhere so will be getting another as that is invaluable. Tripods aren't great for what I do as you could imagine.
I've been trying to compare the D5600 which looks size wise to be a good choice, and the D7500 - which I like the faster fps on and the 4K video - though honestly - I rarely ever take video - good ol shakey can queen here... Plus that's not really my 'thing'.
The auto focus on the D5600 - you mention it's not great on the video, but what about on stills?
Sadly my budget is not good and I'm still tossing up whether I can even really justify it - I don't 'have to have' the latest gadgets, though in general I'm not keen on second hand electronics, the D5000 is a classic example - the sensors aren't working in that no matter the mode or settings - I get the same exposure and spend a lot of time post processing or non useable/saleable images. :/ So I DO NEED a new body at the very least.
I'm about over trying to figure out my best option - but as I have Nikon lenses, I need a Nikon body.
Maximum I can spend is $1000 Australian. Which is really crap, but it's the sad reality of life.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts!
Hi! So sorry for the late reply here! I was a bit lazy with comments and suddenly there were too many. Thanks so much for taking so much time to comment - it means a lot that you'd put so much time into your message. I hope I can do it justice. Apologies again for just getting to it now.
The D5600 is definitely a light camera. I sold it to a friend of mine, and after using my Panasonic GH5 for a few months, picking up the D5600 again reminded me of how light it was. Obviously, the type of lens will make a big difference to the weight.
The D5600 has a higher megapixel count (24.2 to 20.9), and a slightly higher pixel count in the LCD screen (1,036,800 to 922,000 pixels - both 3.2"). It's about two-thirds of the weight of the D7500 (with a smaller body), which is something you'd definitely want to pay attention to.
However, As you said, the D7500 can film in 4K, has a headphone jack, better battery life, better autofocus and ISO range, as well as a dust/weather sealed body...which the D5600 doesn't have.
SO. With that all in mind, I think they're both good options. The D7500 sounds as if it would be more diverse and you'd ultimately get more for your budget, but the D5600 might be more comfortable to use. Let me know what you decide to go with - or if you choose something else entirely!
@@davebetts Thanks so much for your reply!
After much umming and ahhing, I was going to go the D5600 so I at least had a working camera, and look at saving again to get something better later.
I have a selection of Nikkor and Tamron Lenses (have to admit - have always been a fan of Tamron Lenses - I've particularly loved and stupidly sold my 18 - 400 that was brilliant with what I was doing regarding horse photography due to dust and not wanting to have to change lenses from a contaminates in the camera and a time point of view).
So there I was about to hit the purchase button on a relatively local retailer on the D5600 and blow just on $900Aus and I thought 'ill check evilbay one more time' and a near mint condition one popped up for half that.
A few messages back and forth with the seller to verify that it was indeed near mint and no problems whatsoever, he offered a 60 day money back guarantee too... Could not ask for more really could I?
So bought that, and with what I saved, I got myself a new tripod/monopod, a new external flash, a new camera backpack that will fit on the wheelchair arm beautifully, some new filters (I just had the basic UV for all and a polarising one for the bigger zoom - I don't use filters much as I prefer to play with stuff on the computer rather than in camera due to pain levels, and I'm always looking at light and composition, and what actually makes an image work on its own merits first)
I think I watched your video here about 4 times before making up my mind, making sure I could live with its downfalls and working out if they are at all relevant to what I'll be using it for.
With stuff happening brain and body wise here I kind of feel like my knowledge is slipping big time and due to a slight acquired brain injury thanks to horses/ponies that weren't even mine and most smaller than waist height - turd brained critters.... Lol - I don't retain written info as well as watched/spoken information. So your videos have been invaluable to me. Thankyou.
Hopefully in about 6 months I'll be in a position to buy another body - I loathe having one body as if something goes wrong - a backup is a must. It will likely be a Nikon due to the lenses but if I'm able to be convinced to go to another one I'd end up selling everything I've got and going that way. Again with the brain stuff - I know my way around the Nikon's and can change everything without having to think. That appeals to me greatly.
If at all interested in looking at what I've done this far - Winged Horse Productions - com - au with dots not dashes. Need to update big time.
My editing software is years old but I like it and the edited images Page there totally sucks, I should go fix it before anyone potentially looks. But the program of choice is a Corel one, X3 - it's about, um, 15 years old or something? There are so many more up to date versions but I know that one inside out. I know I'll have to move on eventually, probably by the next laptop in a few years as I got myself a good one earlier in the year.
Anyhow, that's way off track, I've played with the D5600 and it feels lovely in my hands, I do have an all weather cover for it as horse events don't often take place on all sunny weekends during winter lol. Not that I'll be at a lot, but should be at enough to enjoy getting back into it a little.
Again, thanks for the video, information and the reply, and I don't think I could have got a better deal price wise on it, oh and it came with an 18 to 55 lens.
So would my Sony dsc v3 from 2004 still be good for photos? It can take 3k pics and most phones are 1080 or 1440.
If you're happy with it, it's still good!
Please rate on still image performance (may be compare with other dslr model)
Hi Gordon, I think image performance (with decent lenses) would be high - maybe an 8. I know you aren't asking this, but I'd say video would be a 4 or 5.
Unfortunately, I haven't used enough other DLSRs to compare in a way that would be helpful for you. Hope that helps!
I bought it yesterday...I'll only take photos is it good ?
I think so!
Bro your snaps are amazing!!!!’
Thanks so much! Really appreciate that - but definitely at the beginning of a learning journey!
I have a question. I saw that the camera have wifi . Does that mean I can send photos to my phone from the camera ?
I’m not sure, I’d never tried. You can definitely send from camera to phone but I don’t know about the other way around, sorry!
i just enjoying ur accent. btw i own that d5600 but just use a very few time. kinda bz
Thanks Mizhan! Haha! Appreciate your comment!
Is this good for family photography?
Hi! I don’t see why it wouldn’t be? I think it’s good for all photography in my opinion 😊
Should I go for nikon d5600 Or d3500
I would say a D5600 over a D3500 - the articulated screen on the D5600 was so worth it for me.
How good is this camera for vlogging?
Personally, i don't think it's that great for vlogging. I think there are some better options out there - I've heard great things about the Canon M50 for example (but I've never used it so couldn't say for sure).
@@davebetts Thank you 😊
