    Great another organization video that I need to do. Im a retired nurse. I have my supplies everywhere. They should be organized into one or two places at most. I feel totally overwhelmed with everything going on and trying to be as prepared as I can. I live with 2 zombies and they don’t help at all. I feel like that childhood story of the Hen and making bread. But I’ll push through because I can see whats coming. Sorry, rant over. Great ideas sweet lady. You actually showed where I have some holes. Thank you and God Bless you and yours

      Eyes 2 C , I am a nurse also and was thinking today that there should be first aid videos on you tube to teach us about more than just gathering food and water. We will need these types of skills to survive if it gets bad. I am glad I found this channel. Stay safe and God bless.

    WOW, I thought I was organized. Thanx for the weekend project. A couple of thoughts... I stock:
    - Pedialyte powder packets on hand to improve hydration and support electrolyte levels,
    - a blood glucose test kit,
    - basic cold & flu stuff (with expectorants),
    - an "ANA" kit (prescribed by doctor)
    Thanks so much for all you do and again... glad you're back! 😉

    Your presentation is wonderful. I live on a very limited income yet I try to get 3 or 4 items extra a month. It's small but adds up over time. Hope others won't be discouraged. Do as much as you can the best you can. I trust Almighty God, it's going to be ok.

    Looks great. The only other tip I can offer is to add a red cross sticker to the outside of the medical storage bins to make it completely obvious to others. I got some on Amazon - very reasonably priced. I also track ALL my medical supplies on a spreadsheet so I know what is approaching expiration in my car, EDC, BOB, GHB, garage, bathroom, etc. Just ordered some Manuka honey packets to add. As always, thanks for sharing your common sense approach to prepping.

    Something I came across recently is for med/trauma kits in rough and dirty conditions is to vacuum seal them then band trauma or dollar store scissors to the outside. It protects from the elements and keeps small items from walking away. Something else I have considered is using a pressure cooker to sterilize instruments and vacuum seal them .

    Wonderful group of medical supplies! If you don't already have one, you might want to have a master list of all those supplies typed up and placed inside that closet - perhaps taped to the inside of the door - that could show on which shelf each particular item was located. That might really help if someone else needed to access the supplies quickly in an emergency :-)

    Oh, wow, I need to re-organize! We repurposed an old metal 4-drawer file cabinet in the basement for our supplies (small first aid kit upstairs). Another 2-drawer file cabinet holds all my dried medicinal herbs, salves, and tinctures. We don't have the wound closure tools except for steri-strips (makes myself a note). Ok, this might sound weird - but - after my elderly mom went into the nursing home dementia ward, we still had a couple dozen incontinence fold-out disposable diapers. Stashed those by the tall file cabinet as large wound coverings. Still sealed in plastic packages, so as sterile as possible, waterproof on one side. Figured if we can use tampons for wounds, we can utilize these. You have an awesome set-up. Thank you!

    • @PrepperPotpourri
      @PrepperPotpourri  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Those diapers could also come in handy as pads under a sick bedridden person.

    Medihoney and hibiclens are used by wound care nurses in the clinical setting. They’re legit. Getting some coban, mepilex, duoderm, iodosorb, silver alginate dressings, long acting lidocaine cream and sterile saline would be a great additions as well as a curette.

    Impressive and more than most would think to keep. Going to add a suggestion. While you are canning, have a jar of sterile water, a jar of saline solution which is saltwater...on- line recipies for this to flush out eyes, clean wounds, etc. also rolled gauze. I’m a bit beyond this in having silver bandages, diabetic testing kits, blood- clotting test kits, catheter if someone cannot urinate, KY Jelly, list goes on. The alcohol wipe packages dry out so keep some rubbing alcohol around. Same with antibiotic oinments in packages.

      To start my trauma kit I got a surplus Czechoslovakia med kit from sportsmans guide online $85 and built off that. Look for stuff on Amazon and ebay. I found "student dissection kits" for $6. Sure it is not sterile medical grade top of the line designed for every day use, for an occasional emergency use ok. "Practice sutures " are also available. Build your kit over time starting with the dollar store. Most importantly find tutorials on how to use the things you have. If you have a child with a minor boo boo instead of slapping a bandaid on it and a kiss consider saying "it is not that bad a bandaid will take care of that, how about we put a good bandage on it". Then proceed to wrap it up like it is more serious, you just practiced and your child received a first aid lesson also. Look for tutorials on Israeli bandages and instead of buying one duplicate it with a maxipad and ace bandage.The best med kits in my flea bitten opinion are vacuum sealed, Tupperware or in large ziplock bags, save the money you would've spent on a kit bag to buy more supplies. Acknowledge the difference between clean and sterile, clean is the best you can get at the onset of trauma, sterile is what the medical centers offer. Never refuse to act because the equipment is not sterile. Sorry so long winded.

    My family (3 adults) have recently been battling lice infestation (super lice). We don't go anywhere except to walmart to the pickup service and the gas station. We spray everything with bleach and wear gloves. So this alarmed me if shtf and i had no way to buy any lice shampoo. I am stocking up on it as there seems no way of getting rid of it without the treatment.

    • @chrishamill3170
      @chrishamill3170 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      DreamerHind this has happened with lice, bed-bugs, and scabies. Resistant to treatments. Try to use natural things...maybe bathing in vinegar water, epsom salts...using (going to butcher the name) Fels Naphta soap. Spray (flammable) 91% or more rubbing alcohol for bug spray. Sounds like you might have an infestation. Got to boil water and pour over bedding and such in a sink or tub. This spreads to shoes, in the car. Yep, you are innocent in all this. I won’t fly, sit down anywhere...a doctor’s office, a lab, etc. Home sprays can help. See things which bugs hate..could be cedar, peppermint, etc. Good luck!

      Rubbing alcohol poured over your hair and wrap in a towel for 20 minutes then rinse will kill lice. It's cheap, does not harm you in any way and can be used on children(just fold a wash cloth and let them hold over eyes,nose as you apply. Do it again in 7 days to kill any lice that has hatched out.
