I admire people who remember authors and books they read years ago. You all have such great memories. I only ever remember an author or a book if I have strong feelings about it, either hated or really loved it. I took two literature classes early in college oh-so-many-years ago and several writing courses but I only ever remember a few essays and short stories, never full books or even the authors.

I find it that there is a theme in all (or at least i' ve come across) of Kazuo Ishiguro's work about growing old, and it reflects the stirring feeling of where are you in life. As being 17-year-old, i always feel blue after reading his works.

About In Cold Blood: There's a whole backstory to why Capote focuses on the killers, which is mostly that in real life he conducted interviews with them (the reporter that talks to the killer in the book is actually Capote himself) he starts to like them, kind of becoming their friend (especially Perry) so you can see how they grow in the story as he gets closer to them. Idk if you already knew this but I thought it was worth a mention x

I love your book videos. you're one of the best "booktubers" out there, because you have smart, analytical thoughts about books from diverse genres (as opposed to the majority fantasy/YA books on youtube). I haven't been able to find other booktubers that are similar. If anyone can suggest any that feature books like the ones jess does pls advise!

Hi! I know a lot of time has passed lmao but I recommend Jen Campbell. Excellent booktuber, plus she is a writer. She's very very smart and her thoughts on books are very insightful. One of my favorite people to follow in TH-cam in general. She reads diverse genres with a preference to poetry and fairytale themed books. And I also recommend paperbackdreams. She is a young booktuber, but I find her wrap ups entertaining. I really like her lmao, she's cool. She reads mostly horror.

I'd be interested to read your dissertations because I've read The Fifth Season at your recommendation and also a Brief History of Seven Killings (which I found suuuper hard to get into because have no contextual knowledge)... can understand why this wouldn't be feasible though haha. Really enjoyed this video, lots added to the list! If you want another book that makes you laugh out loud - try This Is Going To Hurt. I'm not one to laugh very easily but within the first few pages I was cracking up on the tube haha

I agree with some of your thoughts on Flights, and the story you mentioned was one of the best parts as well. If you put it down before that story was resolved she revisits it a bit later which made reading the whole thing a bit more worth while. Would recommend to flip to that story to finish it!

I studied In Cold Blood in high school. There’s speculation that Capote had a relationship with one of the killers. He spent a lot of person time with both of the murders as well. From what my teacher told us it ended up haunting him and he became super reliant on alcohol and ended up dying quite young.

Ha! I didn't like Tentacle very much precisely because I felt it didn't successfully tackle all of the ambitious themes it set out for itself in its 130-odd pages. Had the author devoted more space to her endeavor, she might have succeeded.
I'm curious about The Water Cure now, because I had the same problem with The Power that you mentioned. I also didn't pick TWC up because I was concerned that I wouldn't like it. The Dreamblood Dulogy is on my TBR too because I loved the short story I read in Jemisin's latest book, which is set in the same world.
Wide Sargasso Sea has been on my TBR, so I'm looking forward to giving it a try (that is, if I can finish my other reading challenge early enough). I enjoyed the writing in Voyage in the Dark, so I'm curious about Rhys' other work.
