Yea i know chinese food gets a lot of bad reps and diarrhea jokes but i honestly think they are the best at making fresh food, nothing highly processed ever goes into my mouth ever again, ive even gotten better after chronic fatty liver, ive lost a ton of weight and i feel great, the vegetable cooked in garlic and oysters sauce are to die for, ive never eaten so much veggies before arriving in China
by the way, Shanghai's food is considered ridiculous expensive for ordinary Chinese, go to any tier 2 city, you most likely get the same meal for less than half the price, perhaps even a third of what you would pay in Shanghai.
I’ve been to where you’re talking eaten everything you’ve shown in this short. One thing I love about Shanghai is that you can wander down almost any street and find really cheap food made fresh. There’s open markets in a lot of places that open early in the morning for breakfast. Only thing is the $4 dish you showed is actually kind of expensive compared to other things you can buy off the street. But it’s a restaurant so hey, gotta do it for the experience.
I just gotta say your smile is so contagious 😊 you just look so genuinly happy when you eat good food and i cant help but smile back i just love your videos!
Nah chinese food can't be trusted. Their cleanest city is worse than the most destitute Western city. Their food safety standards are non existent and they use sewer oil to cook with.
You’re kidding ! Shanghai is stil so cheap. I had a full crab meal (Michelin star ) with 7 other friends . I think it was 10 courses and it came out to like 32 bucks a person.
Those buns remind me of a regional German bun that is made with such a salt crust bottom, but they're unfilled. They're super delicious! Some people eat them sweet with a vanilla sauce, but I like them best just as is. Interestingly enough, when I lived in China I didn't really enjoy most baozi, they where too sweet and doughy and there was never enough filling?
I used to not like Chinese food because I’m from America and live in a small town so it’s really hard to find a good place where the food tastes authentic. I wasn’t going to give up though, but then one day, one of my good friends invited me over for lunch and she’s Chinese. her mom made the most delicious Chinese food I’ve ever eaten. It was very fresh because she has her own garden in her backyard. I’m just happy that I didn’t give up because those restaurants were not giving the food the justice. The food is absolutely delicious. 😊
One of my Amercian mate has the same issue. He used to believe Panda express is chinese food. I have to spend a lot of time to explain to him that there is no such thing as orange chicken. And later he took a trip to China, and when he was back, he told me all those American Chinese Food are so fake...I was like, told ya bro....
Problem is American Chinese Food are ultra processed. Very far away from fresh cooking using natural ingredients. I found the Chinese Food in the US inedible. Gave me really bad bloating as well.
Yesterday the forecast AT NIGHT said it was 38C but felt like 41C!! Took the dog out for her night walk and it did indeed feel damn hot. If you live here (as opposed to visit) you kind of get used to it. And also don't go out much!!!
Small tipp for the next time ur visiting shanghai: Rather than staying at those places frequented more often by tourists (like the peoples square) go for those midsized malls a little bit outside of the center in the living districts, those have actually a lot of great food that are well liked by the locals
Oh dear! 😭 Swiss lady in Singapore (Swizzyinsg) often posts YT shorts on cost comparisons between Spore and Switzerland. I guess she's very happy there in one of the most expensive cities in the world!
Chinese food is terrifying. You should look at what they reuse and add in. If you thought McDonald’s was bad it’s nothing compared to some cheap places in China
Those egg and chive pancakes look absolutely delicious! I wish we had a thriving street food culture where I live, but it’s just not a thing. We are seeing a rise in popularity of food trucks, which is promising at least, but they sell a limited variety of food.
Ngl the chives pancake was my everyday go to breakfast back then in wuhan cause its tastes sooooo goooood cheap and healthy (i always added the sausage and the stir fried veg for extra) 😂
You should try the 小笼包 Shanghainese Dumplings is one of the best foods you’ll have in China also it’s my favourite Chinese food (I’m definitely not bias)
I got so confused for a second when I saw the Japanese Yen symbol but now, let's just say I was today years old when I found out that not only do the Chinese use almost the exact same symbol for Yen (It's "¥" but remove one horizontal line from the "Y"), but both "Yuan" and "Yen" sound almost the same. I'm Chinese and even I didn't realize that lol. Tbf I'm American, not a native Chinese. Man, I love how similarly related both Japan and China are. ❤🇨🇳🇯🇵💕 (Except one is loved while the other is hated 😞)
Yeah I hope that Macau and HK keep their freedoms as SARs while being under Chinese control as they should be. They shouldn’t be controlled by colonial empires or the mainland even more for sure
When I went to Shanghai, I just felt at home with their food and cuisine. My father was born in Nanjing, and for some reason a lot food I used to eat that have disappeared in Taipei I can find them in Shanghai. There was a lot of snack that were my grandpa’s favorite, I found them in Shanghai. Taipei used to have them, but not anymore. Youngsters nowadays only like Japanese, Korean, or western food now. Once I met the original owner of 老天录 who used to operate a shop in Los Angeles who was originally from Shanghai, moved to Taipei; then to LA Chinatown. He said that making these snack are very labor intensive; his kids were getting good jobs. With no one taking over their craft, the know how acquired over his life disappeared. What a shame.
Anyone from Shanghai or Suchow tell me if these foods my dad and grandpa had in Taipei still exist? 桂花糕(osmanthus mochi roll with red bean paste in the middle)? 一口酥 (bite sized salt and pepper pastry)? Bowl shaped rose colored rice cake with red bean paste? steam layered cake with pork fat and sugar flavored? I dreamed about these childhood snack, but I don’t see them anymore. 😢
As a person from china, Shanghai, I just want to say I don’t think I have ever seen someone order 生煎包for breakfast 😂😂, that’s a dish for when it’s late af and you just want something to fill you up that also tastes like perfection or have it for dinner😂😂😂

Not just cheap it's a real food with fresh ingredients no preservatives and not frozen and not microwaved ! Made on the spot by real people !

Thats not true
You get a whole loaf of break for that in germany and still have like 1,5€ left
Ok, the bao looked nice but those fried bread egg and chive pancakes looked absolutely incredible and satisfying.

Those pancakes are always amazing and very comforting food.
Whenever I buy frozen pork buns I always steam them and then crisp up the bottom in a pan, makes them so much better
