Everyone killed it on this set. Beautiful music rt here. Miles Beautifully expressing , scolfield laying a dope solo down and Daryll holding that bass pocket with so many groove combos ❤
Seit meinem 12. Lebensjahr kenne und höre ich Miles Davis. Nun bin ich 53 und danke Gott, dass ich ihn zweimal live gesehen und gehört habe. Einen Menschen und Musiker wir Miles gibt es bur einmal.
Miles Davis is all time Great for all known trumpeters, yes Miles has always played with his back to the audience, ,it has been said he stated , you come to hear his music , not see it, along with the with his back turn allows him to truly sing through his horn, MR Davis was one of the few trumpet performers that could actually play different notes at different root levels octaves with valves of his trumpet dead center and still maintain balance of tone and rhythm most horn players can appreciate this great artist
Time after Time.... Gosh, endless time. Listened to this timeless piece, endless times with love and at different platforms and never the same but exquisitely magnificent. Thank you Miles. May the merciful Father, God in His infinite mercy and love grant your soul eternal rest.
Miles , often played when he was in pain. Can you function while you are in pain? Would you care that much for music and people? His failures were master pieces!
Miles Davis- tpt. Robert Berg- sax. Robert Irving III- synths. Daryl Jones- bass. John Scofield- guitar. Steve Thornton- Percussion. Vince Wilburn- Drums. these musicians . this group around Miles became "classic" . they gave us such amazing tunes.... THX
AAAAhhh... the rthym! the melody! Miles and his ability to change and adapt with the times! What an inspiration for all of us wanting to grow and learn
miles was surely one of a kind so rare and unique, i mean there were hubbard, gillespie, mitchell, armstrong, cherry, marsalis, byrd, sandoval, shaw, farmer, baker and so many others but miles has a special place in my heart his tone his silence his phrasing one of the few trumpet masters that got me into fusion and beyond along with don cherry and freddie hubbard these are my personal favorites, this particular version of this song to me is the best perfomance ever from miles and the band is superb going along... so much pain in this one it's like he's crying, like to go through all the struggles of life but to my ears there is a glimpse of hope in his crying!!! thank you mister davis for your majestic music... you touched my heart like no other... from 5:41 is just pure magic....
It shows that some of you do not understand miles. He was a minimalist. He did not just play a bunch of notes to prove that he could play. That's what made him great.
what is so amazing about this piece is that it literally brush strokes to music…the band in the background is the canvas, and Miles paints a strategically placed note to two here and there, and brings the entire thing to life. No one has ever done this either before or after…it is the hallmark of a true musical genius
For me, the truly nice stuff starts after the guitar solo... I found the studio version a bit schmaltzy, but when the band starts cooking to those nice chords on the Oberheim and the trumpet starts talking to the guitar to let himself go at the end... Priceless.
Man, the heartache in that held note @2:00 that so so slowly fades into the delicate little walk down... For years Miles--without doubt one of the greatest ballad players in history--refused himself any recourse to the form. And then, in the last phase of his career, he was drawn to start playing two real beauties (this one, and Human Nature) and, on a good night (as here) it was sometimes as if he was making up for lost time.
And of course he uses the same gambit several times more throughout the performance, each time making the register of pain & longing sound new, and more intense. Cyndi Lauper said it best: "The way he played it was pure magic."
Nice burst indeed but it is actually an Ibanez AS200. Scofield now has his own signature model from Ibanez called the JSM 100 which is based on the Ibanez Artist you see in this performance. Would love to have one but it is beyond my price range. Maybe one day.
Do you know why he always blows his horn down to the floor, while many other players blowing up in the air? There's a simple and very practical reason for it. In an interview he gave, he told the reporter that he gets much better feed back of what he's playing in that way. Just like your guitar sounds much better when you play in a bathroom and against the wall.
Hyena- this is a song by Tuck Andress, originally recorded with his wife, Patti. This is a perfect example of what the original definition of jazz has always been- taking a good melody and "jazzing" it up. Miles has always done this- "Funny Valentine", "Someday My Prince Will Come", Human Nature"- he had a gift for finding beautiful melodies, among other things.
He invited him once for a collaboration, and making him fly to the studio intentionally... The funny thing is that Stink was all freaking out that he would play with Miles, and it was only to read a sentence in French for some recording, HAHAHAHA... He surely felt humiliated, that vane nuisance...
Everyone killed it on this set. Beautiful music rt here. Miles Beautifully expressing , scolfield laying a dope solo down and Daryll holding that bass pocket with so many groove combos ❤

I said he's the greatest that ever did it he's one of the Gods of the Advent of jazz
Truly divine
THE sound of the trumpet.
For me, the truly nice stuff starts after the guitar solo... I found the studio version a bit schmaltzy, but when the band starts cooking to those nice chords on the Oberheim and the trumpet starts talking to the guitar to let himself go at the end... Priceless.

@samiamy2k
No, this song was written by Cyndi Lauper and Andrew Hyman, originally recorded by Cyndi Lauper.
opens doors to other dimensions....
Best description of Miles ever. Genius took a pop tune and turned it into multi-dimensioned classic.
Exact, each melody frequency takes way to a specific dimension ...

@stevesan it's just you mate
これが一番。🙄
My favorite part is when he shushes the audience. I'm gonna start doing that during my solos.
no pa, Miles es el Maradona de la música del siglo XX
*****************************
Content de voir que même des pros font des fausses notes.
I remember this. Miles was close to finished in 1985. There is no innovation here.
He’s improvising over a melody. He’s not finished
C'est jazz.Aussi.
man needs to see the drummer i guess.
@zMacHD why is it boring to you...............
ez a zene csúcsaa tobbi csak kaparja a falat!
