Hello thank you a interesting video. Just wish to give a shout out to my made in Sweden 2008 husqvarna 450. She has eaten many of saw over ther years and bars and chains. Still going strong. I have grown up now and run a 550 mark ll to and a 372 for work saws, but the 450 still gets a run. Keep her starp, good oil and they keep running fine.
I wonder how much of the 450 gains were due to the muffler mod. I did a muffler mod to mine and it made a noticeable difference with throttle response and speed in the cut.
Your the first journeyman, and I'm serious as a heart attack, that's ever mentioned Hylomar joint compand. Hope your listeners were listening, that product has no equal. Opened my VW shop in 71. Cheers👍
The 450 Rancher has been out for a few years now. I wonder if husky would do it differently if the were designing today. They did make the 465 Rancher which was autotune but didn't seem to be that popular, maybe cost was a factor. I have the 460 which is an okay landowner saw, but i think I'll have a bit of a tinker with it and see what i can get out of it.
That ported ms271 chainsaw is pumping out some power for a 50cc homeowner chainsaw. When you get the performance similar of a ms362 chainsaw, that is impressive from a ms271. I own a stock ms271 chainsaw and a dual exhaust ms362, there is quite a difference in cutting speed, but the ms271 is a strong reliable saw.
I don't like any of the flippy caps. The early Stihls were a pain. I'm super stoked - I picked up a teal blue Makita 6100 at a yard sale this weekend. It's just the power head and appears to be new in the box. The box looks like it was dragged behind a truck but the saw is perfect. Not sure what I have. Paid $225 for it. I won't get to mess with it until later this week. It appears to be complete. Has a chain - no bar. Happy 4th.
I've been thinking about a 271, but the 291 has entered the discussion too. I'm gonna stick with Stihl because of local support. I can't swing a stick without hitting a Stihl dealer where I live. It seems to me the 291 is the same as the 271 but with a few more CCs and a little more HP.
A bearing pocket mod would seem like reinventing the wheel on a 50cc. But content on the machine work involved a large clamshell saw would be interesting.
I would like to see some Dyno tests on 562xp vs 560xp setup, 3/8 vs .325 if possible. Since 550mkii with 3/8 had perhaps 0.7 hp more then .325 if i remember the test correct. It says both has 3.5kw(4.7hp) on sales spec but perhaps there are ways to improve them without changing anything on the engine itself since some prefere to make them stronger without affecting there lifetime or possibility for free repair from where they bought the saw if it has damage first years.
I hope to have a 562/60cc video up sometime. Chain size wont matter, as it dosent change the amount of power the engine makes. But will effect how much power is used. The 3/8 Chain will use more power to spin.
How did you decide how far to notch back the lower transfers? It looks like it may have added a lot of volume to the crankcase. I also wonder if the longer lowers allowed the flow to attach to the transfer tunnels earlier on, like a velocity stack, and that effect may have been lost in forming that big wall.
What were the final numbers on the intake on the stihl? Sounded like it got edited out. Also, how did u determine how wide to go on the intake and exhaust?
sir! i need a replacement for my old MS250, any suggestions what should i pick? If i wanna stock saw which is better ms271 or husqy450? or maybe there is something elese worth buying? old stihl saws were great but in european union we got insane restrictions and newer models are "green one" (designed to produce less polution) [f#@king crap!]
I’d guess the ms 382 will have substantially more torque since it’s based off the 038 super at 72 cc but cutting smaller wood the 365 may have more speed and will be lighter.
Come on like you don't have a preference..... I honestly don't know ONE PERSON would be like "you I really like those Stihl gas/oil caps. I wished Husqvarna would've had the same kind. Because then I would've bought one if they had."
@@dynojoemods2764 I want to send you a Pro 10-10 Automatic with the stock and a piped muffler, but I would like to have you tighten up the squish which means doing the bearing pockets too since McCulloch's are a clam shell design too.
Made with parts from all over but definitely not all China like your trying to say. Stihl makes a lot of their own hard parts including pistons and cylinders in Brazil, plastics in the USA, lots of the ignitions are sourced from outside companies in Germany still so you might need to do some research.
I’d love to see this with the MS251 and the 440
That 271 puts up fairly impressive numbers Nice work Joe
The first saw I ported was an ms271. I was really surprised at how well it responded…your dyno run shows there is potential.

Great vid joe !!! I love my little 450 , i have bigger pro saws but that little clamshell always starts , runs, and makes me money .
Thank you
Nothing wrong with that at all.
I always used to tout myself as a stihl fan but man I have alot more huskys then I do Stihl
I'd really like to see some SXL porting. I have a stack of them that I'd like to mess with but have no idea where to start lol.
That graph for the homelite can't get no better damn what a solid running saw. Decent horsepower with mad torque to pull through the wood. 👍

Old homelite saw fired up can't beat Old American quality

You should contact tinman about ideas for the old homelite

Stihl all day for these 2 saws.
Wow, i just picked up a used 271. Glad to know its not cheap junk.
Pretty good gains for their type of design.

Really good stuff on this one Joe👍🏻
Thank you
US vs Germany vs Sweden :)
I put finger ports in the 271 and 291 they really wake up alot buddy great vid
Thank you, I bet they do really like the added fingers! I was surprised what they gain without them.
I’m keen to see the Homelite porting, including a bit of your thought process about how you come to the numbers you’re shooting for.
Just might have to do that. Never messed with these oldies
@@dynojoemods2764 I’ll hold my breath

This is pretty awesome! I’m guessing those mods are pretty close to the same price as the saw right off the shelf when it comes to pricewise
271 woke up pretty nice
Can I send you my 450 rancher????
Can we see a ms362cm ported, I just purchased one and thinking about having it ported but I would like to see if it's going to be worth it
Happy 4th , thanks 4 the videos
Joe, is the 450 piston a 2 ring design? Also, do you know of a larger carb that would fit that cylinder to match the flow gains from porting?
I actually own both saws but I prefer my Husqvarna's
271 cuts through wood 🪵 like a hot knife 🗡️ through butter!
Did u ever do any porting on homelite ?
No, not yet.
Hey Joe, would 100 on the exhaust and 70 on the intake make a difference on the ms271?
It may pick up a bit more up top, but that high of a roof is dropping a good bit of compression too
What were the final numbers on the intake on the stihl? Sounded like it got edited out. Also, how did u determine how wide to go on the intake and exhaust?
👍👍👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🙏🙏🙏🙏
Can u do review on efco chainsaw sir
When your in a crisis grab the Homelite and I have a 291
dying to see the homelite super xl after mods

271 has more power, but you need to see what feels better and has better local support.
Flippy caps got me into religion.
I had to repent for all the cursing I did.
Hey Joe. I have a quick question. How good of a performer is stihl ms 382 considering it's open ported.
Never seen a 382. I would guess it similar to the 038
@@dynojoemods2764 the reason for my asking is am torn between Husqvarna 365sp and the MS 382. What would you recommend?
@@larrysfirewood
Tough call. I'd go with whichever feels best in the hand. I would guess performance close.
@@dynojoemods2764 Thanks. My beef with 382 is it's open ported. I suppose I have it it my head closed is better that open. Well, thanks Joe

Stihl is a german company Assembled in the U.S. with chinese made parts. Its sure as hell is NOT "made in America"
