    Soak up all those moments you can with your pops man. My dad, my fishing partner of 35 years passed in early February. I would give anything in the world to go out with him one final time. Great video man.

      One thing I fear most... I have only recently come to know my dad much.. I'll loose him not ever knowing him well and he was around my whole life.. wild how he never interacted with his own son of the same name.. I'm Jr.. I spend every minute I can with my 9 yr old son.. I want him to know everything about me.. my dad is 68 this year.. I'm afraid of the phone call I'll get saying he's passed.. he is 14 hours away.. all alone, still

    I lost my dad in January of last year. He had just turned 70. He first took me fishing when I was just 4 or 5 years old. Fished with him for years. Would give a lot to fish with him one more time. Enjoy every minute with your dad. You just never know when it might be your last fishing adventure with him. God bless

As Pyne pointed out, the redfin (or grass) pickerel is a smaller species in genus Essox, and even smaller things called "mudminnows" (genus Umbra) are in the pike family (Esocidae).

    First time I ever saw one of those Bowfins was at this paylake I grew up fishing at , years ago, actually I fished there for many a year, anyways there was always somebody catching a bowfin, out of one of the five lakes ( ponds actually), but everyone back then called them a Dogfish, well here in KY anyways. They would be mixed in with the load of river channels and/or Carp, just like the paddlefish that were in those lakes too, except they don't bite or eat anything you would throw out for the catfish, you know in the paylakes everybody just about used those big bobbers, slip floats and those daggone paddlefish were always constantly swimming back and forth, with those big mouths open, filter feeding on the zooplankton or whatever, but them swimming back and forth like that, they would always get wrapped up in somebody's line. Dave Parrish, the owner of the lakes, he would give anybody credit for catfish over 10 lbs and he counted those as catfish, heck a lot of people called them spoonbill catfish, even though they weren't catfish at all. Anyhow, good deal buddy 👍👍, as always! 🤘✌️

    That's a dog fish. Bowfin are similar but they have a spot near the tail that looks like a fake eye and the male bowfin usually has bright greenish fin tips, both have armor like scales. Both dogfish and bowfin do not taste good, from personal experience. Eelpout and bourbot are great eating and don't have scales and are more skin like a catfish.

    4 letter word 😅 I'm a muskie and walleye guy. My brother is a professional bass fisherman. I call bass rough fish or snags or fouls 😂 my brother has watched me catch monster muskie and he's sabotaged me several times when landing them 😕

    Go to rock Creek when you get in Iowa and you’ll be able to accomplish your mission, and maybe with a Saul guy in a channel cat to go with it

    Is it just common courtesy to walk down and cast into your friends spot like that? Man that would never fly up here. You pick your spot and you never cast into another person's fishing spot.

    • @RiverCertified
      @RiverCertified  ปีที่แล้ว

      I mean, I wouldn't do that to a random guy, at least not without his permission. When it comes to the guys I fish with, everyone wants everyone to have fun and catch fish, so casting next to each other isn't a big deal. Sounds like we have different kinds of friends.

    Someday I want to fish with you. But I'm in NY.
    I have never caught blue or flathead catfish. Only channel rats.

    You can tell you are from the Midwest. I grew up calling a drum a sheephead. Until I was watching pig patrol I thought a drum and a sheephead were two different species.

      @@RiverCertifiedI like using a 3/4 lb - 1-1/2 lb channel cat. I cut the spines & poke em about 3-4 times down by the tail so they bleed some. Bullheads and creek chubs are #2&3.

  • @jbparker5466
    @jbparker5466 ปีที่แล้ว

    Man you need to catch and cook one of those choupique. Taste better than catfish! Gotta keep them live in the same water you caught them in till it’s time to clean them. NEVER put on ice before you pop out those beautiful nuggets.

    • @RiverCertified
      @RiverCertified  ปีที่แล้ว

      They ain't bad if you clean em like you described I tried em all different ways and never liked it ..then a older gentleman at a spot we fish specifically for bowfin and he told me to keep it alive in the river water untill you clean it and cook it immediately after and it tasted decent ...not my favorite food fish but if I had to it would make a turd..lol
