I just can’t get past the Retroids bad feeling face buttons and the smaller screen on the Mini. The H is definitely my pick out of the two. I love 4:3 systems.
I can’t help but feel that there is an underserved market here for a high powered 4:3 console with at least a 4 inch screen. The Retroid Pocket Mini is the closest thing, but falls short with that screen size. I understand that the only screen available in AMOLED/OLED at a 4:3 ratio maxes out at that size, but I would settle for an LCD at 4.3 inches with enough power to do all GameCube, Wii, and PS2.
The rp5 is Not even close to the RG406h it’s bigger the sticks are worse and can brake easily overtime and d pad is much less fun to use (this one is not a fact it’s just my opinion ) and so many other things
the pr5 is 16:9 trying to play game cube and ps2 which are 4:3 soo i guess if you mean killing ment screen pixles then yes the rp5 kills half its pixles to wasted space and lost performcne plus wasted cost
It needs more power to be good for PS2 for me. But I like to run everything at least a small 1.5-2x upscale. There are some ps2 games that don’t even run at 1x, as well. But it is comfy and has good screen and sticks.
@ dang good point from TH-cam videos it is hard to tell smoothness. The other option for me was Odin 2 but big price gap. For my first ever handheld hoping the 406h does good enough for now!
Perhaps. The mini had worse face buttons but is more comfortable for dpad gaming and more powerful. Ironically the more powerful device having joystick on bottom makes it less comfy for ps2/gc. So there’s trades both ways, depends on what you mostly play.
You should probably just get a Steam Deck. LOL JK! This is a great breakdown of the 406H. I am still a bit tempted to pick one up though. It just looks so comfy to hold. :)
Get no accidental diagonals on my 406H. I'd say this is close to being the most comfortable Anbernic device to use after the RG556. Analog sticks are some of the best on a handheld. I like my mini too, but this one gets more usage - PS2 on my Odin 2 is obviously a better experience. Mini is definitely not as comfortable as the 406H, the face button feel is worse than some sub $100 devices, and while the screen is gorgeous, it should have been bigger considering the size of the device and power. Dpad and quality overall is very nice.
I did end up selling my mini, as cool as it is it missed the mark in a few places for me. The 406h I would maybe pick over the mini, but not the RP5. I hated the face buttons on the mini.
Same screen, sticks, and performance. I think you should probably get vertical if you're playing mostly DPAD games, and horizontal if you're playing mostly Joystick games. The vertical also only has digital triggers so definitely the horizontal for racing games and the like.
Anbernic really messed up by releasing this chip on the cube before this. I bought the cube day 1 and enjoyed it for a few months before realizing the shortcoming of the 1:1 screen. I was hyped for the 406h until the RP5 released. I ended up trading my cube, plus some cash, for an older ayaneo air pro. Now i have no use for the RP5 or the RG406H.
This device would have been perfect if it had the SD865 CPU. I have the cube and love how comfortable it is. But wish it did PS2 games just that bit better. As the odd slowdown is annoying. And a 2x upres is perfect I feel. Maybe the RG407h will have the Demensity 1100 or something which can do this. And not be as expensive as a SD CPU device.
I love the Phawx although nobody copyrighted using frame 1 of the video for the thumbnail. They're both fire youtubers and if you judge by just the intro, damn you're missing out.
I’m sure I have subconscious influence from all the great creators in this space. I liked that frame for my thumbnail so went with it, no intention to rip off The Phawx, I watch and appreciate a lot of his content.
I don’t get the discussion on the control setup, Xbox and sega controllers are far superior to Nintendo and PlayStation so for me the dpad should be at the bottom and I’m so glad they didn’t go for a cross dpad.
each to their own I guess, I think due to playing fighting games for so long on Xbox type controllers I find it really comfortable to have the lower dpad.
nothing is too late bruh! i need something to just watch... haha
I just can’t get past the Retroids bad feeling face buttons and the smaller screen on the Mini. The H is definitely my pick out of the two. I love 4:3 systems.
Fair! The RP5 isn't quite as bad, but the mini buttons truly are pretty bad.

He lies i am paying him to make this video just so i can watch it …. SHILLLLLLLLL ❤
Are you Retroid? /jk ;D
@@dagon475he's just acoustic
Nice video Derek!
the rp5 kills this device, now I just need a retroid vertical
The rp5 is Not even close to the RG406h it’s bigger the sticks are worse and can brake easily overtime and d pad is much less fun to use (this one is not a fact it’s just my opinion ) and so many other things
@@GamingScHow can you say the sticks break easily "over time" when it literally just came out? Sounds like copium.
the pr5 is 16:9 trying to play game cube and ps2 which are 4:3 soo i guess if you mean killing ment screen pixles then yes the rp5 kills half its pixles to wasted space and lost performcne plus wasted cost
I got it for 130$, thanks ali coupons
Nice! For that price it makes a lot more sense!
if retroid pocket 5 uses 3:2 screen aspect ratio i think it will be the perfect retro handheld
For joystick games in 4:3 ratio it beats the rp5 in every category. This device with oled would be 10/10 for ps1 ps2 etc.
It needs more power to be good for PS2 for me. But I like to run everything at least a small 1.5-2x upscale. There are some ps2 games that don’t even run at 1x, as well. But it is comfy and has good screen and sticks.

Thanks interested in 406H but the RP5 is the competitor
I would think this is a closer competitor to the RP Mini.
Perhaps. The mini had worse face buttons but is more comfortable for dpad gaming and more powerful. Ironically the more powerful device having joystick on bottom makes it less comfy for ps2/gc. So there’s trades both ways, depends on what you mostly play.
Thanks ! did you do a video test of the cube xx ?
I did a video over in the Retro Handhelds channel: th-cam.com/video/wc4dC0pVMg4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Nsel68cwYtqE3-s3

The comfort is definitely one of the highlights
Comfy to hold? My hands cramped watching him play
So do you work for the retro handhelds guys too?
I started with them for a few months, then started my own channel a month ago.
@ nice

it is the most comfortable 4:3 4 inch device
Hmm, what do you think about this one with the vertical version? Any huge differences?
Same screen, sticks, and performance. I think you should probably get vertical if you're playing mostly DPAD games, and horizontal if you're playing mostly Joystick games. The vertical also only has digital triggers so definitely the horizontal for racing games and the like.
@bassderek Thanks for the quick reply. I think I might get a 406H
Nice video, Derek. Also, you are a shill 😆🤘🏼🔥❤💪🏼
It’s not my fault the RP5 is so good! 🤨
The way anbernic pumps them out I sent think they even gaf how late it is.
i have rp5 too and i can’t find it comfortable

Yeah if the 406h came out when the cube did I think it would have done much better. I know I would have bought one.

anbernic is great in the budget category imo. mid-range not so much their forte.
This needs to either be $40 cheaper or 40% faster lol.
Give me all the clicky buttons. All my keyboards are clicky mechanicals for a reason.
1 minute adjustment would level out your glasses mate
Were they off? 🤷🏻♂️
How dare you cheat on Ayaneo by shilling for Retroid!
That thing is tiny
I don't know if I would call it tiny, but it is fairly compact for what it is.
Thats the way phaux opens his videos. I just stopped by to leave a thumbs down for that. Bye bye.
I love the Phawx although nobody copyrighted using frame 1 of the video for the thumbnail.

RP5 for the win! Thanks derek 🫡
I don’t get the discussion on the control setup, Xbox and sega controllers are far superior to Nintendo and PlayStation so for me the dpad should be at the bottom and I’m so glad they didn’t go for a cross dpad.
For modern systems, yes. But if you are emulating older consoles that had no joysticks, it's more comfortable to have the DPAD on top.
each to their own I guess, I think due to playing fighting games for so long on Xbox type controllers I find it really comfortable to have the lower dpad.
