For the transmission you can also swap the sa/fb tailshaft housing with a n/a fc. would have to use n/a flywheel setup on turbo engine not ideal but does work. this would keep factory trans location and factory mount location. I have this setup in my sa "sc" its a s5 turbo engine with n/a trans setup and fc turbo 2 rear end custom fabricated myself. Did the whole fc suspension just because i wanted to run full coilovers and have 5 lug better wheel option.
@@RADPotential 12gal Fuel Cell. I'd have to check to see if i have any pics posted anywhere. Its very indepth to do especially making sure the rear shock angle is correct and making sure the wheel is center of the wheel well. The center of the wheel sits slightly more rearward than the diff. I had to make new frame rails.
The TII or GXL/GTU/Vert booster and master cylinder will bolt up, all you have to do is use two of the FC aluminum base plates under the booster to space it out from the firewall a bit. Did this mod 20 years ago when I swapped TII brakes and did my VW Rabbit steering rack install. Also, the RB mufflers are straight through, which I love because they are very quiet, albeit heavy. The 81-82 version flows the best, its still db legal (barely) and I've never had any problem pushing my full 3" system through it, just had to cut off the dual inlets and make a single 3" inlet.
Really makes me miss my SA. Full gsl-se rear end swap with a turbo II on a megasquirt. I was the 3rd or 4th guy to do it on the forums back then. Still miss that car to this day.
I did an fc front subframe swap on one of my fbs. I went with a 3/4" spacer, mounted the subframe to the front fb subframe bolts which moved everything forward about 1 1/2". Had to cut the fenders. And the rear i made plates to bolt to the steering linkage holes.
Matt, do you have photos posted anywhere? I am in progess of an FC subframe swap myself. I have the subframe mounted already, though I chose to install new sleeves an inch backward and reuse the steering box/idler holes. Its sitting on 215/45/17s right now, definitely hits the fenders.
“It steers a little funny” probably because the steering assembly is now located in front of the struts instead of the rear changing original geometry from ackerman to anti-ackerman. Not to worry because the former is good for low speed turning while later is preferred for high speed turning as in F1 cars. Nice posts.
I always had the idea of buying an FB (which are dirt cheap around me) and an RX-8 (which are dirt cheap around me) and replacing the suspension, steering rack, subframes, etc of the FB with the RX-8 stuff for more modern chassis and suspension development. Probably swap over the axle as well, for the IRS
There is a guy somewhere out there doing FD rx7 suspension stuff. They make a standalone controller for the RX8 electric power steering that would be epic!!

FC vert subframes are the same but they have an extra reinforcement brace on the back of the subframe. You can remove it and it will function just the same as a coupe
So i was curious as to if you could run a gsl se front cover and gsl se oil pain on a t2 motor to mount this power package into a first gen. Obviously you would have to make oil lines up for the return and maybe the feed of the turbo but it would be the easiest way wouldnt it?

@@jamesford3549 Best way I do it, pull the trim off around the trunk controls and dimmer switch, remove the duct that goes under the column and you should be able to reach them with a long screwdriver. It should be a phillips screw driver

Id probably opt to move the strut towers. Calvin would make me move the whole wheel arch and then have to smooth it in perfect

Whats the benefit to swap an FC front subframe? The ability to install coilovers? If so why didn’t you install a FC rear axle?
FC brings rack and pinion. That's the big advantage. The rear is Independent suspension on an FC and it's problematic. Best just keep the live axle

It still cooked the fuse jumpering around the switch. I'll check it again. But the switch was fine. Or do you mean the dimmer
