The RADX7 - 13B Turbo + RX8 6 Speed Swap - Rotary GOLD

- Outside of an REW and a T56, which is crazy overkill for a 2300lb rx7, this little S5 Turbo Engine and RX8 6 speed should be an epic combination for the little rocket go cart.

After owning a couple FD’s,FC’s and being out of the car seen for over 10 yrs. Your channel has inspired me to get back into the car scene. Just picked up my first 79 SA and getting ready to start digging deep into the car and using a lot of your informative videos.Keep up the great content.
Welcome back
This video reminded me of Aaron Caces Rx5build.
Thanks for informational videos, looking forward to the startup.
Very happy to see this, it looks very similar to what I am working on doing.
Stay focused on the work Grasshoppah….. we’ll be here drooling when the videos are ready. Thanks!!!
There was a couple of other suggestions I have for you, changing your front indicators so they can quickly come in and out and provide airflow to your front disc brakes. Handy if you have a friend with 3d printer to convert rectangular intake to round duct (maybe be able to get a small amount of down force with some inventive designs). Could also do the same with the pop ups to cool the motor on your cool down laps. You haven't said whether you are going to put a heat shield between the exhaust and intake, hope you have considered this for your build.
Sick stuff bro. The color has me hyper focused on red cars now!
This will tell me wether I needed a 5 speed swap for my car or not. My 6 spd was on its way out anyway.
We look forward from France ^^
Gonna be so cool.. love it man
my friend has a big turbo 13b 1st gen rx7 its soo fast and sick
Great video! Currently have a 79 SA I’d like to get road worthy again. Keep up the good work!!
The intro is deafening with headphones. Thanks for the alert. Ha

I use that turbo manifold on my FB and it crack really quick I have someone building me one with the same turbo location
I am in Australia and most FC here are Turbo. I need a rebuild on the transmission on my 86 NA and nobody want to take it on due to parts availability. I had been trying to find rebuild kit from the US but no luck yet. I think the last resort is to put a RX8 tran in.
Nice video. I have always wanted to have a rx8 6sp transmission in my Fd. With that said, I am making 426rwhp and have been told that the rx8 transmission will not handle the torque of the Fd engine. I would really like hear your opinion. Brap on
I think it would be at its limits around 400 HP but I will find out for you in this car haha!
I am subscribed so trust me I am following to see how it goes. I have a few vids on my car on youtube so feel free to check it out as well. If that transmission works for you, I will be next.
Ill check it out!!
Hey , i am curious about the engine when you put the S5 Rear Iron on the rear of rotary is it possible to instead use the Rx8s Rear iron instead?
I am thinking about putting a 2005 R8 motor into 80 style S10 and I was wondering what kind of electronics that will require
Just a thought, but maybe a flat Teflon bushing for the front engine mount. 🤔🤷♂️
I may put some small 1/8 inch thick pieces of rubber under all the mounts. Maybe help a bit?
Is a brand new S2 transmission able to hold over 400 HP safely
Does anyone know where I can buy a s5 front counterweight
Hey mate! I am currently building a 13b BP and popping it into a series 1 and just have a question about how you've made the 6 speed from an RX8 work. This is my first time building a rotary and I've been told that it can't be done due to balance issues with the counterweights? Obviously you've made it all work together and if you have the time, to please explain how you have? Thanks from my humble shed in Australia!
What ECU on this project? Any experience/thoughts on the MicroSquirt on a TII?
why you don't pas into the radiator for the intake ,make a hole and surge the line (it's cooper line ,easy to do),to suck cold air in the front of the car and go near the ground cold air.
Would you mind explaining why have the different s4 and s5 plates/irons all together? Are there any mods you have to do to make them fit or do they just naturally work?
They will naturally work together no problem. main reason is that the engine was a complete S4 T2 engine at one point. then the rear iron broke. the S5 T2 plates are stronger around the dowel areas, so we used the good condition stuff of everything to make a "stronger" engine.
Can you install the engine on an Rx8
what rear axle is that? ford 8.8?
Never seen a turbo oil outlet going directly to the oil sump. I'm mostly an NA guy. Don't you want that drain line to free-flow and not create excessive back pressure on the drain side? You'll also get oil slosh up that drain line on hard left turns on a track.
Its right at the top of the pan, in my mind. the hydraulic grade line of the oil level may go up the drain line a small amount, however with the turbo being as high as it is, it should still have a void in the line to allow the turbo to drain. its maybe 1 inch lower than the factory front cover drain on an REW, so the slosh theory would still apply to the FD drain as well, with just a smaller amount of head pressure. Just thinking out loud.... I ran this setup on my FC vert Turbo and didn't have any smoke or oil issues at the tail of the dragon. Track forces may be greater.
@@RADPotential That's good to know. My only turbo experience was the FD and making sure it worked correctly.
Ya'll will be the first to know if it starts smoking really bad or gives me issues, but I am pretty sure it should be fine
So you can use a crank angle sensor on a 12a?
yea, the FC CAS will install exactly like a distributor
what do u do for work boss? assuming u work for a rotary shop?
I'm an engineer
Hey do you a quality s4 front iron for sale? I'm running low on options.
6 port or 4port?
@@RADPotential 6 port. I'm almost about to buy one from attkins.
This sure is a mishmash of rotary components, what is the difference between NA rotor setup and Turbo, what would you have to do if you had NA rotor components and wanted to turbo it.
I'm betting you don't run into this problem, as I assume you buy master packs of oil filters, but another plus to the switch over to the Chevy filter is how ubiquitous they are. Absolutely everywhere
Wait the s6 and the s5 rotors r the same?? Can anyone confirm?
S5 Turbo and s6. Yessir
@@RADPotential is there an email I can send you a couple pictures of the rotors that came out of my fd engine to confirm?
SA/FB > FC > FD
I've owned all of them and I still own the FC and the FD. They're all fun and amazing in they're own right.
bro love the vids, but you can't start the video with the loud noise and the warning for heaphone users instantly, there was no time to avoid the sound LOL #ripheadphoneusers
It wasn't that loud lol.
