      Filipinos, generally and in majority, even those who don't have rice cooker/s at home, don't even use any colander or some strainer or sieve to drain the rice. Btw, every Filipino household have some different variations too of the Filipino/Asian way of cooking steamed rice. The manner, process, steps, and procedure of cooking steamed rice in the Philippines also depends on the freshness of the rice or if it is newly harvested or not, the quality and type of rice, the amount of heat and temperature of fire (if fire is used), the type of cooking pot used (and whether it is in a rice cooker or not), and what exactly is the rice cooked for (if it is for a rice that goes with your meal/viand/dish, if it is for a rice cake or some other Filipino native rice delicacy, etc.)

    @budddshott 3 ปีที่แล้ว +361

    I remembered when I visited Europe and found out European people aren't used to washing rice. I just got shocked and called my friends in Korea to tell them that I ate unwashed rice. Purchased rice is pretty clean in my country as well, but idk if the company specified the washed rice maybe it's okay. Also, I kinda lost my mind to watch the BBC's fried rice recipe. She even broke the basic rule of dealing with rice. Fried rice is not a risotto, it needs to keep the rice dry AMAP. By the way, disgusting is probably too much and I know and respect recipe can vary, but to understand how Asian felt with this recipe, imagine she baked bread and immediately washed and squeezed it to make it "more" moisturized. That's not funny, especially if it's the cooking program. Ain't it?

    • @budddshott
      @budddshott 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @Santos Lewynn Keep the rice soaked in the water. But thats not necessary at pressure cooker. The main reason of washing rice is washing out the rice bran and dust. That's whats usually called "cleaning"

      actualy untrue, there are many ways to cook rice , yes the japanese and chinese way may usually require to repeatedly wash rice till water comes clear so no more starch on surface of it but there are other ways to do it too in other countries likefor example one can put it in top throw 1-2 spoons of oil in pot and stirr till is all oiled so it doesnt stick in clumps during cooking and then there is also risotto style ...that doesnt go for the extensive washing ....

      Draining rice removes extra starch and that water can then be used to water plants or as a hair rinse. I've had rice drained and undrained. It doesn't really affect taste. Drained rice is fluffier and the grains are more separate... which is why it's practiced in Europe.

    You wash rice before cooking not necessarily because it's dirty; it's to wash off excess starch so your rice isn't clumpy after being cooked. Whether you buy your rice in the UK or Asia you're going to want to wash your rice of excess starch if you want to use your rice for most Asian dishes. Dishes like risotto don't need the rice to be washed because it actually wants to use the excess starch to create the sauce.

I couldn't explain the properties of rice, but i just said that asian normally, wash rice, put enough water, boil and let it dry itself not draining the water...because if you drain the water the natural sweet taste of rice is gone..😊😊😊 that is the start as well how she learned the finger measure for the water in rice...🤣😂now, she lives happily with rice...😊

The chef was actually more irritated that they were calling it "egg fried rice" The chef said what they cooked was fried rice with egg, and not egg fried rice. There is a difference.

    Tips in cooking fried rice:
    - you should wash it first 2 times to remove dirt.
    -put right amount of water so you don't need to drain it afterwards and to prevent to become soggy
    -do not drain and wash rice after you cooked it because it will also drain the nutrients.
    - when frying, always put garlic or onions first before anything else to release the aroma.
    - put the veggies and then the rice.
    - it's more delicious if you will add the scrambled egg after the rice, and then mix it.. :)
