    I watched a youtube watercolorist who removes the masking fluid with masking tape. It was as if they were made for each other. i haven't tried it myself yet, but thought I'd pass it along for anyone with sore fingers lol. Love your videos! Such perfection!

    I think you have taught me so well about keeping the paper white that I don’t need that masking fluid. No need to do a study…I’m not a professional like you❣️ My study will be my masterpiece or not 🤷🏻‍♀️😆 Louise, coffee ☕️ first! I love doing color swatches with my paints (Royal & Langnickel Gouache) (Moz Art palettes) are quite good without breaking the bank…not quite up to Windsor & Newton prices so the colors you use, I have to get as close as I can to do your tutorials. Love these sessions and being a Patron…learning at my own pace. 🙏🏽🙋🏻‍♀️👍🏽Mia

    I liked the use of water to create the blooms, that suggested tropical leaves in the background. Your colours as always glow and draw the eye in. I can honestly say I have never seen anything you've painted look overworked. What a lovely home you have Louise. :)

      @LouiseDeMasi  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you very much Don. I do overwork. It's a habit I am trying to stop. I've got to learn to accept what the paint gives me rather than try and make it into what I think it should look like. Now the painting starts outside. I think we'll be painting from now until this time next year 🥴. Windows and posts are going a pale grey.

    I'm so exited about this one! We have blue and white herons where I live. And I also live on a lake so we get to watch them a lot. They come into our yard but mostly they like to perch on our pontoon boat (and make a mess, of course). Hopefully I will be able to paint this one following your fabulous video! Thank you!

  • @KimberlyCrick

    Absolutely stunning work! I love how you started this... I personally hate masking fluid, not particularly the using of it, but more so the finicky nature of it drying out in the bottle over time. If I don't do a lot of making fluid work in a row, the next time I go to use it it's all gummy even when I'm careful not to shake it/introduce extra air to it. It worked so very well for you here though, definitely one of my favorites of your work. I can see it's value, but I'll be defaulting to white gouache over the areas I wasn't able to preserve lol :)

      What about storing it upside down?This would create a natural vacuum. I have mine like that since I store all my paints and craft mediums this way. Another tip was to use a dipping pen to apply it therefore you have no worries about ruining precious brushes. Works a charm;)

    Thank you - great info.
    Just fyi - have you ever tried using embossing tools to apply masking fluid. Small ones can be used to apply really fine lines and the masking fluid just peels off after it dries. And your brushes are safe :)

    Have been trying out masking fluid recently. My paper turned out to be too delicate for it. But I think this was a paper problem; a relatively cheap wc paper. I also have a block of 100% cotton fabriano paper that's waiting for me to muster the courage to start using it (any day now😏) I am sure that will be sturdier.
    That a beautiful heron by the way, I admire your skills greatly.

      @@LouiseDeMasi Thanks for your reply. And yes I have heard that advice before, but as a relative beginner, I have untill now been a bit hesitant to waste good ( and expensive...) high grade paper on the first part of my learning curve. But I am now at a point, having practiced basic techniques for a while, and producing some paintings that don't look too terrible, that I think it's time to upgrade....

    Beautiful! I know it seems unlikely but i have ancient windsor newton masking fluid i tested and it works a charm better than the new stuff inbought! Just kinda congealed and had to be shaken for a long time. Used to be my dads and it is still in a cute glass bottle. Almost full! I love it. A brand new molotow pen ruined a daisy painting and i dont trust it anymore.

    I am so excited to FINALLY learn how to use wc paint. After watching hundreds of tutorials, and giving it much thought, I am happy to finally join you on Patreon! Your ability to teach is exceptional, but what really makes your work phenomenal, is that you incorporate the natural beauty of the medium into each piece.
    (you take 'requests'? oh... how about what "overworking" an area /painting looks like and how to prevent it... or perhaps the thought process/planning involved in moving from reference to line drawing to painting... ie how do you remember where to shade or plan highlights.. or how to know how many layers of paint are required vs too many layers)

    Another useful tip: before taking it away, be sure that the paper is really dry, otherwise you'll pull it off together with the dried gum.

    I love everything you paint!!!! Just one question, when you do a drawing of a photo, do you trace it or do your own drawing just looking at the photo?? I’m terrible at drawing so i would appreciate any help in this department. 🙂
