    Rafael Cortijo, the Cepeda family sure did popularize Bomba music. Afro Puerto Rican jazz trombonist William Cepeda has those bomba and plena rhythms in his music. I also know one of my favorite old school salseros Ismael Rivera aka El Sonero Mayor is also a big icon in Bomba music. I love Bomba music. I saw some boricuas beating those barrell drums when I was in the Bronx visiting. Bomba has become very popular in Latin tropical music. Celia Cruz, Willie Colón, Orquesta Terrifica all have some Bomba tracks. Even reggaeton artist, Tego Calderón has those Bomba rhythms in some of his tracks.

    I wish when the ladies dance they would cover their back side out of respect for our ancestors & the dance. Lately the newer generations are dancing & shaking the backside as if their twirking. Please respect our precious dance. 👍🙏

    I would be cautious with the term unique, As that type of interaction between musicians and male and female dancers is well spread throughout the Caribbean Sea. The name might differ, but the codes and significations are the same from Cuba to Guadeloupe or Colombia

    Hey can u do video on can black Americans & black Latinos can get along cuz I know we have different cultures but we do have somethings in common cuz I have seen some black Latinos act just like black Americans but the difference is they speak Spanish I feel like we can get along we just have some misunderstandings how u feel about this topic

    • @VivaBellabyXtina
      @VivaBellabyXtina  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had someone already request that I speak on something similar, so I will kinda be touching on that. I think it all depends on the person.. There are some black latinos that associate more with the hispanic community and there are others that identify more with the black community and get along just fine with black americans. Just depends.

    You literally first off said it was rooted in African culture it is not. Then you went on to read the Wikipedia article I know because I wrote some of it. Well one of those is fine the first part is inaccurate and should not be a part of your video. Spreading appreciation of this beautiful music is a wonderful thing but spreading this information is worse well it does have some roots in African culture that's not primarily in African culture it is primarily in the post slave culture of Puerto Rico with

    I honestly didn't know too much about bomba. Even though I'm from Carolina, but my family was "funny" with certain things. Like, don't you dare call my mother a jibara. Nooo! Mofongo? Too African. And bomba, I don't think so. Although, santería wasn't an issue, go figure.

    • @VivaBellabyXtina
      @VivaBellabyXtina  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeaaa I think we can all name a few family members that were "funny" with certain things. Really, mofongo too African? I thought everybody in PR likes that lol. It is very interesting though that the more African spiritual practices are accepted at the greater societal level, likewise with Cuba.

      I'm replying to myself because after watching more of your video I can't understand how you could have unintentionally made some of the mistakes you made. Therefore my only conclusion is that you made these mistakes in order to money the history of an already muddied history. Trying to untangle the history of Spanish influence versus two native cultural influences not to mention the native influences from the mainland that yes they had contact with and the African influences. You are spreading misinformation
