See I love your attitude about the islands. We are all so much alike. And it's good we are different too. But we should always get along and try to take care of each other.
When I started studying Caribbean history, I found out that after bad hurricanes, they would all look out for each other and send each other rice, plantains, coffee, etc and I find that amazing. Political interests of course changed things. But that's another story. The point is, we should never go against each other, like in New York theres this stupid attitude some ppl have, like PR and DR ppl shouldn't mix.
Racism needs to die out. We are all treated differently in the United States, they dont see us as equals to White Americans, and it makes no sense we should treat each other like that too.
God knows we all mix with each other anyway, we cannot deny the strong attractions we feel. Not just romance either! In friendships, at school, growing up in the same hoods, playing sports and making friends with each other at workplaces. Like I'm Dominican wiv a lil Haitain, my neighbors are Cubano, my best friend is Panamanian and Puerto Rican, and my son is half Puerto Rican.
Sorry this is so long! Lol but I got love for everyone on the Islands too, let's spread that love cuz we are the same ppl wit the same history anyway 👍🏼

The Spanish Caribbean refers to the Spanish-speaking areas in the Caribbean Sea, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico. It includes regions where Spanish is the main language, and the Spanish settlement and colonization influence culture, through religion, language and cuisine. The Greater Antilles rest on a common submarine massif and are crossed by an abrupt and elevated chain of mountains, whose highest peaks range between 2,000 and 3,000 meters above sea level (meters above sea level) culminating in the Dominican Republic (in Pico Duarte with 3,087 masl) and decreases, on both sides, in Cuba, Jamaica and Puerto Rico. These mountains are composed of limestone, with outcrops of other rocks, all of them much older than those of eruptive origin in the Lesser Antilles and without traces of recent volcanic activity. The Bahamas, by contrast, are islands of coral origin. In the past, the Bahamas was not even considered part of the Antilles, although today its coverage is widespread as a third group within the Antilles (Greater Antilles, Lesser Antilles, and Bahamas).

Haiti and the Pan-Antillean Confederation - The idea of a united Caribbean nation or confederacy had long been part of the Haitian consciousness since independence was proclaimed. #Dessalines envisioned a united nation of African descendants, centralized in the Caribbean and spread throughout the the American south and northern South America. Boyer unified with #DominicanRepublic (then known as Spanish Haiti) in 1822 until 1844. The movements across the Spanish Caribbean in the 1860s and 70s renewed interests in Caribbean #unity. Following DR’s Restoration of Independence War, Lupéron (also likely of Haitian descent) expressed ideas for a confederation between DR and Haiti, stating that they were the “same people” and how they could protect each other from European influence. Obviously, this never came into fruition due to the erratic political situation in both countries and the #Dominican elites unwillingness to cooperate. When the idea of a Pan-Caribbean confederation was brought up between the #Hispanic Caribbean, the #PuertoRican nationalist, Ramón #Betances and #Cuban Nationalist Antonio Maceo petitioned Haiti’s inclusion. #Maceo stated a union between Haiti and Cuba would ensure the rights of the Afro population. Betances cited their revolutionary past and staunch anti-colonist sentiments. His petition influenced by his friendship with Haitian nationalist, Antenor Firmin. The pair first met in a meeting of the Society of Latin American Unity, an organisation that served as a social and political network for exiles from #LatinAmerica. Firmin and Betances both believed a pan-Caribbean state would have to give special protection to their African populations and work to limit the powers of the White upper class. Fermin devised a project that would unite the Greater Antilles over the course of 25 years. Unfortunately, pan-Caribbean ideals began to die down following the US’s annexation of PR, and invasion of Hispaniola. 🌴🇭🇹🌴🇭🇹🌴🇭🇹🌴🇭🇹🌴🇭🇹🌴 #haiti #haitian # #haitianpride #ayiti #haïti #haitianpride #1804 #history #quiskeya #hispaniola #haití #caribbean #haitiano #haitianos⁣ Reposted from @alexandrethehaitian - view on Instagram instagr.am/p/CE11wz1loE1/

Prior to the arrival of Christopher Columbusand the Spanish in 1492, the native Taíno people populated the island which they called Quisqueya (mother of all lands) and Ayiti (land of high mountains), and which the Spanish later named Hispaniola. At the time, the island's territory consisted of five chiefdoms: Marién, Maguá, Maguana, Jaragua, and Higüey.[1] These were ruled respectively by caciques (chiefs) Guacanagarix, Guarionex, Caonabo, Bohechío, and Cayacoa.
In 1493, Columbus came back to the island on his second voyage and founded the first Spanish colony in the New World, the city of Isabella. In 1496, his brother Bartholomew Columbus established the settlement of Santo Domingo de Guzmán on the southern coast, which became the new capital. An estimated 400,000 Tainos living on the island were soon enslaved to work in gold mines. By 1508, their numbers had decreased to around 60,000 because of forced labor, hunger, disease, and mass killings. By 1535, only a few dozen were still alive.[2]
Dating from 1496, when the Spanish settled on the island, and officially from 5 August 1498, Santo Domingo became the first European city in the Americas.

Congratulations, good summary of the 3 islands! It's interesting to know, even though the Dominican Republican is just a few miles from Puerto Rico, Puerto Rico has had a more closer relationship through the centuries with Cuba than with the Dominican Republic....It's also interesting to know that in the formative years of USA, both Cuba and Puerto Rico sent soldiers to fight in the "Louisiana Territory"......However, after the arriving of thousands of People from the Dominican Republic since the 1980's in clandestine trips to the Puerto Rican beaches in small wooden boats, the Dominican population in Puerto Rico started to grow, and now there's an important Dominican community, mainly in the San Juan metro area......For Cuba i would have chosen some Celia Cruz classic, for the Dominican Republic, "Burbujas de Amor" from Juan Luis Guerra and for Puerto Rico, "Despasito" from Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankie! 😮

    santo Domingo DOMINICAN REPUBLIC
Enriquillo, also known as "Enrique" by the Spaniards, was a Taíno cacique who rebelled against the Spaniards between 1519 and 1533. Enriquillo's rebellion is the best known rebellion of the early Caribbean period. He is also considered a hero
    in the modern day
Dominican Republic and Haiti for his resistance in favor of the indigenous peoples. Dominican friar Bartolome de Las Casas, who documented and rallied against Spanish abuse of the native peoples, wrote sympathetically of Enriquillo.
His father, his aunt Anacaona, and eighty other regional chieftains were killed by Nicolás de Ovando while attending supposed "peace talks" with the Spanish in Jaragua. During the talks, Spanish soldiers ambushed the chieftains, also known as caciques, set the meeting house on fire, and then proceeded to kill anyone who fled the flames (causing his father's death). Enriquillo, an orphan, was later raised in a Santo Domingo monastery and given the name of "Enrico"

I appreciate the balance in your approach to the topics. Groundbreaking methods of DNA extraction in tropical environments fleshes out a different picture of indigenous migration to the Caribbean; it states that the successive migrations from the mainland to the islands actually targeted the largest islands first, and research doesn't support the islands as stepping stones theory. Yes, it's odd, but I can forward the article if you're interested. What that means is human presence in the larger islands goes back thousands of years. I don't know if you've read it, but for a firsthand description of the taíno, I recommend you read Cristóbal Colon's entries in the log of his 1st voyage. He really does go into lots of detail about their appearance and even writes about the difference in features between Cuba (Juana) and Haití. "The Log of Christopher Columbus" by Robert H. Fuson. Lastly, what ever you do, DO NOT use fray Bartolomé de las Casas as a reference! He has been discredited in academic circles.

@@indiscriminatethoughts6269 : I own a copy of Cristóbal Colon's log from his first voyage. There is absolutely no mention of "indigenous black people of different shades, nor does he mention anyone of curly hair. Your claims are a fabrication and prove that you haven't read about aboriginal DNA in the Western Hemisphere. Unsubstantiated claims aren't fact, especially when a firsthand account from 1492 exists.

Cuban bread isn't Cuban lol. It was made in Tampa Florida by a Sicilian. It's called Cuban bread because it is famously used to make Cuban sandwiches witch are from Tampa as well made by Cuban field workers. Aguinaldo isn't a type if music. It's Christmas carlos or Puerto Rican traditions sung in poetry form usually in a type of Jibaro music style of seís and décima. Puerto Rico isn't credit for salsa music. It was developed in NYC by Cubans and Nuyoricans along with Boogaloo, Latin house, freestyle, and Latin rap. Not giving a comment as anything negative. Just sharing some knowledge with you. Dembow isn't really a type of genre of its own. It's a subgender of reggaeton. The dembow is just louder and faster. One person I thought you should have included is Johnny Pacheco. A Dominican who is credit for some influence into salsa music.

I was born in Cuba some 70 years ago. Don't fall for the Fidel, Socialist propaganda. Batista saved Cuba from been Socialist almost right after the Russian revolution and then again some years later with a second cope. Batista was call a dictatorship but unlike most dictators, Batista was good to the Cuban population, only prosecuting those Socialists that kept trying to toke over the island. Batista brought great progress to Cuba, to the point that at that time, the cuban peso was equal to the dollar in value. He made great deals with the U.S. that favored the cuban economy and made Cuba the number one nation in all the spanish speaking world. Yes, better than Mexico and Spain. That''s how good Cuba was. The first telephone system that you call dial direct to a house was implemented in Cuba before the U.S. had it. Car, railroad connecting the whole island, the very first split screen shown in TV was done in Cuba by TV techs and then brought to the US. Batista was good for Cuba
