One thing I like about your videos, collectively, is that you try to explain your thinking, including the parts that you probably wouldn't think consciously about if you weren't making a video. Learning the technical aspects of drawing or any other medium takes research, work and, especially, time. But learning how and when to make the key artistic choices that are needed to make a piece your own and/or to elevate it beyond the ordinary is something that we don't hear a lot about on TH-cam (or Patreon, for that matter). But, you do seem to make an effort at this. Thank you for that.

Could you add a reflection of what the eye actually see? You're so great at the eye. How do you look into a real eye to draw it. Do you have a doctor's tool to look into it? You're extremely kind by teaching your art. I am 74 years old and really can't afford to finance your career. I have been painting portraits since I was 13. Self taught, thought. Couldn't afford to go to an art school, had to work since I was young. But painting have always been my passion. My dear Sir you truly are a master at your craft. I am completely and utterly envious, lol. I've drawn all my life and unfortunately I never gave my complete attention to truly developing my skill to it's full potential. As a youngster I didn't really care that I could render things others found to be impressive or that I had a gift that was filled with much potential. I just never really found myself strongly desiring to become the best artist I could be. Now as the years have passed on by, and time continues it's ever forward march I feel that angst, the dread of my lackluster sentiment for such a wonderful blessing God had given unto me. I truly didn't have any gratitude for being able to draw. I would meet people often that said they wish they could draw too. One of things I noticed about my disposition when I get the fancy to take pencil to paper is the immediate dread of the piece I'm about to embark upon that it not come out absolutely amazing, perfect. It's ridiculous that I expect to render perfect pieces when I never put forth a genuine effort to hone my skill. I just always held drawing as an aside. As if , oh well I'll eventually get back into it etc. Now as I mentioned before the years have ebbed and I now sit and admire so much, others abilities. Your skill is just incredible, I also love Greg"Craola" Simkin's art work. His paintings are a bafflement to my senses. His medium of Acrylic paints with a touch of dry retardant is impressive. I'd imagine you must know of him, as I'm sure he knows of your work. Yea but I digress, it's the spoiled brat in me I guess that wants to have an incredible skill without putting in the work. May I ask how much time you spend on a drawing of that size? Would it be different if you were drawing an unfamiliar subject vs a familiar one? I think your emphasis on a “plane of sharp focus” is one reason why your drawings look like photographs. Thanks for these tutorials showing your process!
