I used to draw realistic portraits of family and friends. I was very very good until I started drinking and doing drugs for over 20 years. I stopped drawing and years went by. I got myself clean and my interest to draw returned, but I found I no longer have that gift I once had even after being clean for 6 years. Learnt a new technique last week. use drawing gum to keep the whites crisp. that way the graphite or charcoal doesn't smear on it. helped me alot with my highlights

Hello 😊 Recently I started doing commissioned portrait works. I use graphite and charcoal pencils. Which paper gives me the best result. Which paper is good for sketching portraits?
300series Strathmore bristol vellum or bristol smooth or Fabriano Bristol 250gsm?

I haven't used Fabriano and Vellum but I have used Bristol Smooth and I can say it is a joy to work with.
I friend told me he prefers Strathmore Smooth to Vellum
