What you said about how the purpose of starting an artwork is to create the first problem you need to solve is interesting - I never thought about it like that. When I start a piece from now on I'm going to think, "ok, time to create the first problem!" :-D Beautiful story and drawing Jess!

I like how Jono teaches people who to draw. Her drawing turned out beautifully. And I enjoyed hearing her talk about her grandmother. You could tell how much she valued the relationship they had.

The biggest obstacle I've encountered in art was just learning the tools. It takes way too long for classes to show you anything other than the pencil. Learning the vast number of tools at your disposal is mind blowing.

agreed. Knowing the right tools is half the work, (if you can draw)

This one hits so close to home. I've been slowly practicing and learning about drawing (a lot from Jono) so I can draw a picture of my grandmother (who passed 2.5 years ago) for my Grandfather's birthday. It's almost cathartic to spend time with her like that.

Well done indeed, well done! My biggest challenge is the time it takes to complete a work to my satisfaction. I'm something of an obsessive/compulsive personality, sometimes it takes me too long to get started, and once I've got the ball rolling and don't want to stop for anything until I know when I'm physically incapable of continuing. But I'll cross that bridge once I'm able to devote myself full time to my art. Love your help and encouragement to her, your improv student.

I'm reaching out on here cause i know this is your latest videos 😅 and I've been watching your videos for a few years and I can just pause a video and screen shot it and just look at it for a few minutes and just reflect on times 😅 thanks for that by the way it really helped while I was in the military, but I've gotten out recently and I've taken a step back and noticed that times these days are really sad in everyone's life somehow and while we know it's best to try to stay positive it can be really hard and while I may not have the ability to draw Like you could you draw your own version of uncle iroh from avatar, I think he is a staple childhood character that sort of represents wisdom and moving on

There is no clear answer, for sure! But my question would be: is it learning to draw if you're copying square by square?
In my mind drawing is about decoding what we see, and interpreting in the drawing. The translation process brings out the artist's message and emotions into the drawing. Of course also a pencil replica square-by-square brings out emotions, but they are very much linked to the reference photo, because the freedom of movement of the artist is limited to that 2inch square.

    2. What is your pricing process like because I struggle with that?

Just dont press hard the pencil. Shines started when you flattened the tooth of the paper.. so it should be layering until you get the dark tone you want. Not just one hard press
