Great video Mazzy! I was a high school graduate in 1967 and that summer was a blast. Although being from Cleveland I have to include some Motown to the list of music. Seems that music meant much more to all of our lives then than now. Just for kicks a group of about 40 classmates of the "Class of '67" got together for a 75th birthday celebration a couple of weeks ago and everyone agreed that we did grow up with the best music ever. Thanks for all the great videos and be assured that even "conservatives " follow your channel. PEACE!
Speaking of Donovan, one of the great psychedelic singles of '67 is Tom Northcott's version of Sunny Goodge Street. Produced and arranged by Leon Russell. For me it was one of those songs that stop you in your tracks when you first hear it. A pretty big hit here in Vancouver.
Great video Mazzy! Your guitar playing is about as good as mine… but, your voice is infinitely better 😂 Yes! Never understand why so many people rate LA Woman as their best Doors album… Strange Days is far superior! Love Not So Sweet Martha Lorraine too… fantastic choice! Guitar in 8:05 is just amazing. Didn’t realise the story behind the song though. Brilliant stuff.
Psychedelia is pretty expansive in scope involving a real diversity of sounds. Beatles, Byrds, Doors, Donovan to the Grateful Dead, West Coast Experimental Band to early Pink Floyd. It is really such a huge genre of music; no wonder Mazzy & Robin couldn't quite agree. One thing is for sure, Psychedelic music was/is great and will live on! Happy Birthday Norman and have many more years of musical enjoyment!
1 brown eye girl 2 whiter shade of Pale 3 little bit of Soul 4 you keep me hanging on. Vanilla Fudge 5 western union 6 i think we’re alone now 7 pretty ballerina 8 soul man 9 she’d rather be with me 10 12:30
"Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd." by the Monkees is a killer psychedelic album from 1967. "Daily Nightly" features one of the earliest uses of a Moog synthesizer on a pop/rock record.
Happy Birthday My Friend!! Yeah So Many Great Ones!! We All May have Varying Lists!!!! I Was 8 To 18 In The 60's.... AND The Music Was The Sign Post!! Peace Brother!!!!
i was born in '63...I didn't really get to live the '60's like Mazzy did. :) Although, I remember alot from AM radio. You really should create this playlist...im on Apple Music btw....LOL
I read that Jerry Miller R.I.P.(of Moby Grape) was coming to the end of his marriage (sad) returning from practice as he crossed the GG Bridge. A beautiful song from the pain of lost love. Another song you might consider (for your list) that always takes me back to Hippy Hill in the park, is The Golden Road (to Unlimited Devotion) - not sure if the date is correct though.
Strange Days is unquestionably their masterpiece. Though I appreciate the grit of Morrison Hotel and L.A. Woman, Morrison's baritone sadly, never sounded quite so pure and rich again. Fun fact : Flowers is Steve Earle's faveourite Stones album.
Great video as always Mazzy! This got me thinking, what is your favorite song of all time? Idk, if you’ve done a video like it before but I’ve always been curious

I'm a bit disappointed. I read the title and thought you were releasing an album of 1967 songs you and your friends had covered back then. But still a fine and entertaining video. And, as usual, your taste is impeccable. 👍
No Dead? I don't think you would pull off a Good Morning Little Schoolgirl, but I can envisage you doing a Morning Dew. Both covers, of course, but then so was almost the entirety of the debut.
I listened to Penny Lane and then Strawberry Fields and came to the realization that...............................ta da!......................Penny Lane was the hit.
cool album covers!!! i wanted to ask you a question, norman,i have a mono copy of the Byrds 5th Dimension, ,which do you think sounds better, a mono or a stereo copy of that album?
The summer of meaningless promiscuous sex topped with social diseases and the heartache of infidelity. An exploitative delusion, naivety at best. Oh well, it was a lot of fun for some, extending to 70's wife swapping and those clubs in NYC and Californian porn with all the disasters and tragedies. Did I mention the carnage of drugs. The wonders of social progressivism, the road to nihilism. At least some of the music was good, but alas, rock is all but dead.
This video is a cry for help. Just Kidding Mazzy! Love you! Cheers Kazzy
This was great! Enjoyed your picks, and you had me putting some of those albums on. Thanks Mazzy!

Agree, I would include Reflections by the Supremes
A whole lot of my favorite albums there. We used to do "People Are Strange" when I was in a flute/guitar duo called Stumbling Grace.

Made my day! Mazzy does Morrison and remember, when the music’s over turn out the light.
Happy happy Maz! 🎉 👏🏼
✌🏾💌🤘🏽
That was interesting. I enjoyed your picks. I don't have a list but I would have We Love You by the Stones on my list.
Ummm , I'll have what Mazzy's having! Go crazy young man!!
Donovan is from Maryhill. Glasgow !
Oh how close we came!! The vinyl community wants so much to hear a complete performance of “Massy Hits of the Sixties “!
Maybe next time?
Hey Mazzy. Love your response video to yourself. Lots of great picks "Groovin'" Yes! Cheers
Forever Changes? Have a swell birthday!
Thanks for a very fun video. Nice change up. Love your choices, not the same as mine, but good choices anyway.

San Francisco… what a surprise 🙂
Heh. In London we all knew ( and played) Fixin’n to Die Rag and listened to Not so sweet…..
A man’s gotta know his limitations, Briggs.

The Quintessential psychedelic Song of 1967 is :
White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane _ yep
Very entertaining
Maybe a capo on the first or second fret might help get you in the right key?
Norman, you know that the Byrds album you showcased on your vid is from '66, not '67, right?
I'm a bit disappointed. I read the title and thought you were releasing an album of 1967 songs you and your friends had covered back then.
But still a fine and entertaining video. And, as usual, your taste is impeccable. 👍
i would include the monkees groundbreaking track, daily nightly,a early use of the moog synthesiser................jpj
Oh, yah. My World Fell Down by Sagittarius. Equal parts the Beach Boys, the Association and the Mamas and Papas. Psychedelicized.
He didn't lie about his singing voice, think it was worse than mine and that's horrible.
No Dead? I don't think you would pull off a Good Morning Little Schoolgirl, but I can envisage you doing a Morning Dew. Both covers, of course, but then so was almost the entirety of the debut.
I pulled Golden Road to Unlimited Devotion but alas
San Francisco and no Grateful Dead?
🤷🏻♂️
I listened to Penny Lane and then Strawberry Fields and came to the realization that...............................ta da!......................Penny Lane was the hit.
cool album covers!!! i wanted to ask you a question, norman,i have a mono copy of the Byrds 5th Dimension, ,which do you think sounds better, a mono or a stereo copy of that album?
I prefer stereo ✌🏼
@@mazzysmusic but Fifth Dimension came out in 66!
Sorry to intervene, but Fifth dimension was released in July 1966
But I kept listening well in 67 and beyond 😵💫🤠😆😎🙄
I think it’s “mute nostril” not “acute nostril” agony.
8:05, i guess you're leaving soon...
"5th Dimension" is a bit "too inovative" since it's from 1966. 😀
🤷🏻♂️😎
Hey Mazzy... Everything you sing, you should try to sing it an octave higher. C'mon, you can do it!
i a gree.
Not so sure Robyn Hitchcock and songs of San Francisco bands would be a such a good match. Mmmm... maybe... We Five's "You Were On My Mind?" ....nah.
