OK, Gun Dog, That was extraordinary. You took it to two levels beyond the next. What like about this is that you drew upon your past experience to create, not just a dab of this and a glop of that, but you're going after creativity, not just something to break the monotony or dispel anxiety of being downrange. A little detachment goes a long way, and take that Gordo.
Just stopped in to say this MRE is in the top 3.
I had a chili with beans a few weeks back from 2015. I thought it was pretty dang good especially the cornbread. So this MRE was packaged for Sopakco by Ameriqual.... I've never seen that before. Anyway excellent review brother!

Great review, man! I have a 2018 A&B case that I plan to “inspect” now that it’s 2021. I had that cornbread from a 2012 MRE (consumed in 2020) and it was legit good. It was stored very poorly but held up great. In fact, all 4 of those 2012 MREs were perfect after 8 yrs despite terrible storage.
The accessory pack choices in 2018 were definitely weird. Hot sauce where it’s not needed but missing when it is. And waaaay too much of that wheat snack bread, not enough crackers, and never enough of that cornbread.
The FRH is meant to be used in the pouch it comes in. Thats why they have the fill line where it is.
MRE’s are awesome for so many applications. They’re perfect for spending a day out ice fishing. Especially if you don’t want to bring a camp stove with you.

Really hearty MRE . I like your. Corn Bread cheese Pizza combos Chilli n Beans combination ! I think It should be against the law Not to include Tobasco or other Hot sauce in that MRE !

I think spiced apples or even pears would have been better, a little sugar on them and yeah...that hits the spot

Reviewed this again, for upcoming ration, Brother. I often refresh my memories, as , the cogs in my brain, are getting rusty here, LOL. Even back then, certain drinks still clumped. Everyone else gets good Fruit Punch, Mine always, looks like A science experiment, LOL. I am glad you refreshed my memory, and, gave me A cool idea or two.. If you allow, LOL. as someone who has had to eat at least one of these everyday for the past year I can tell you this is the best one imo
I refuse to eat them after awhile and lived off of what I brought out to the field and the old MRE bread.

Hey Gundog. Try keeping the heating element inside the FRH bag when you stick it in the outer bag. This will ensure all the water gets to the element.
It worked, it was more the size of the element compared to the other ones I used by doing it "Bag Style"
I'm just stopping by to tell you that I got some bloody flashbacks from years ago. Those flashbacks were of these MRE videos from you and Steve. Have a good day sir!
If your heater isn’t working properly it’s best to crack it and smack it, loosen the contents up and you’re all set, crackers are best smashed and mixed with the main meal as well as if you get cheese, this is all personal choice but I bring a bottle of Valentina sauce to the field or Texas Pete from the hot chow guys, try it and it will blow your mind my friend, you can always rat mess mres as well, I like to take tortillas and make meatball subs with the meatballs and cheese packet, mix it up and have some fun my guy, totally love your videos!!!!!

Yeah, the only thing it lacks is a sachet of chilli sauce or red pepper flakes, otherwise really good. Strange thing with the drink, I've not seen an MRE drink mix clump up like that before.

I hated corn bread back in 1987 I used it as a door holder! Lol! When It comes to eating C Rations and MREs eating on a Ship at the mess hall or Air Force Base mess hall was heaven! I ate Asian food from town a lot and put that in my rook sack!! Lol!
This was the sweetest cornbread I have ever had in my life lol
In Ranger School "getting as much as possible out of the pouch," meant ripping all the pouches open and licking them clean.

Hi Gundog.just wondering if you could let me know about the alternative flameless ration heater you use.sounds really good.keep up the great work.
Another way that made this ration rock: heat the chili and cheese together.
Crush the crackers in their container (unopened) completely.
Roll the main MRE package half way down as a super-large container.
Mix the hot cheese, crushed crackers, and chili ALL TOGETHER into an enormous, salty, savory mix.
The combos remain a side. Eat the main with the corn bread.
This was my favorite MRE because it has everything you NEED in the field (salt for sweat, protein & fat to sate your appetite, and when you combined 3 items all at once you could simply SMASH it moments once prepared). It kept me upright in Ft. Benning Summers after irresponsible amounts of alcohol intake, it'll do the same for you.

This one looked pretty good, I love good chili and nice work on the pepperoni flavored tamale pie, I always keep a bottle of Franks Red Hot sauce on my table so spice is never an issue for me....needs a better drink for sure, and maybe something besides the cheese for the crackers, like some PB or Jam just for a sweet factor since theres no dessert in this meal, but all in all good review and I will mark this down as a possible for future tasting. Thanks GD.

Loved the impromptu tamale, looked like a great way to liven things up a bit and keep the meal from becoming boring. Cayenne is a staple in my pantry as well for chili, soups, you name it. I would have also hit the chili with some Frank’s Red Hot to give an extra kick to it. Only thing missing in this one was a dessert. I feel like the veggie crackers could have been subbed out on the menu for some kind of fruit compote or pudding to refresh the palate. Enjoyed the review!
Spiced Apples would have been a nice dessert with this menu indeed.

Hot sauce in the field?? You want to eat bland the last thing you want is any type of gastrointestinal problems which will cause belly aches and worse much lower
I used to drink that stuff out of the bottle back then....can't do that now or I'll bleed out my....well you know HAHA

Actually, if you watch my video on adding salt to the FRH's, you will see that the exothermic reaction caused by the additional oxidizer (salt), is much more efficient, and creates more heat.
The issue is that the FRH pads, which contain iron filings, magnesium powder, and salt, are premade with all the ingredients mixed together for ease of use (just add water).
The problem is that salt is hydroscopic in nature, which means over time it absorbs environmental moisture, which dilutes it, making the chemical reaction less powerful.
Make your own, let’s see when I was a grunt you couldn’t fit a woman or dry socks in a bag so beer and a couple chili dogs!

Totally agree about that. Most of us carried our own bottle back in the day, I imagine the new breed does as well. Interesting enough was contacted by a young Airborne Troop at Bragg that saw my Field Spices vid....he said everyone in his entire Platoon went out and bought their own stuff which spread to the Company, Battalion and the rest of Division. Kinda cool to get the big "Ataboy" for that.
