    The intro is fantastic! I love how you describe the social dynamics going on in the tank, I don't think I've seen any other youtuber get into the minds of the fish like you do. It's clear that you spend a lot of time observing your fish. They are all gorgeous and the lips are adorable.

    Like the introduction. I could just watch your fish interact for 5-10min each month. Like to hear the current success & problems with the tank set ups. IMO I like substrate simply for my Geophagus & loaches. I never vacuum out my substrate also tho. The Geos keep it all overturned & clean. With just cichlids & Plecos a bare-bottom tank is an easy way to go tho. Just on a side note personally I’ve had extremely good results with the Pond Guru’s Ultimate Biohome media in my sump. My 240gal Vieja grow-out tank has a 125gal sump which I only use 1/3 of for filtration. But after 6 months the Ultimate Biohome has produced some amazing results. I only change the water once every 1-2 months. I have 5#s of media & a well stocked tank. I only got 5#s of media originally to test whether the product actually works as advertised but after 6mos it’s amazing. Bought 20 more #s for all my big tanks. Slow moving water in a sump is the key. Anyways thx for the 350 tank update. Your fish look amazing. I’m surprised u didn’t get a Vieja Zonatus or Coatzacoalcos.

      Thanks, water changes 1-2 months, wow! I need to look into that biohome, currently I have biocubes that I bought on amazon but they are definitely not built like that biohome. I wanted zonatus for more blues in that tank but I couldn't find any adults and juvies would take years to growout

    First you're tank and selection of central Americans awesome just beautiful. I've been keeping fish for over 40 plus years but I've never kept those type fish. I really enjoy them but as you've done i wouldn't put them in a tank smaller than what you have and unfortunately as I've right now i don't have a 300 or larger. Maybe in the future. My history has been with aficans and salt but I'm exclusively african chiclids. But I'm really tempted to check out central Americans they really are extremely beautiful. As far as substrate or not i like substrate but i do understand you're comment for the health of the fish it's true you're right on strangely i kinda like you're half and half look it's like a slice of nature you plucked out if you get my meaning. Well anyways great information and fantastic tank well done! Take care.

    • @dwsdarius
      @dwsdarius  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! African cichlids got the ball rolling for me, I currently have a 125g mbuna tank. I think the fish actually like the half and half substrate as well, when they want to dig they go left, but most like flat surfaces so they stay to the right

    Convict cichlids are my favorite in a tank, very exciting fish to watch very active in the tank always foraging for food, it been said that baby convict were fed as feeder fish and some survived to adulthood, because they are so brave and intelligent, it knows when to hide and when to come out

    I have never been able to do bare bottom but my reason maybe different than some lol,
    I love aquariums and fish so much and I always try and match natural environment the best I can but also it gets pretty boring for fish and I think they move it around and sift thru it as sort of something to do at times. 👍

    • @dwsdarius
      @dwsdarius  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I was the same way but for me the ease of cleaning plus the rising cost of gravel is keeping me on the bare side!
