Every time I watch you paint; I see how I tend to overdo the paper with too much paint and how I tend to cover everything. Thanks for showing your techniques again and again. Your right balance of colors really add beauty to the work. Thanks again.
It is very easy to overwork a watercolour, and I certainly have been in that same situation many times. I find that taking very frequent breaks when we paint helps with keeping the work fresh. When I paint for myself, and not for my TH-cam demonstrations, it could take me days to complete one little scene because I leave each layer of paint to dry and only come back to it the next day. Thank you for watching my videos and for your kind words!
I honestly can't stop watching your video's. They make me feel so calm. I could even say that watching your video's makes me feel more relaxed than picking up the brush myself. Thank you for another moment of relaxation. Your creations are beyond amazing
Thank you for watching and for such a lovely comment! It makes me so happy knowing my little videos bring calm and relaxation to your day - this is certainly how my watercolours make me feel too, and I am so glad I can share this feeling through my videos.
You make the best tutorials out there, without having to speak a word! Thank you, as always, for your detailed explanation of not only what you are doing at any given moment, but why. Very helpful!
Thank you for your kind words! I know that many people make videos with voiceovers, but this format works so well for me, and it lets me release one video a week, so I am very happy to hear it works for my viewers too. Hope you are having a beautiful and creative weekend!
Magnificent Anastasia! So happy just watching you paint this joyful piece. I loved watching you lift that paint at the base of the tree. I’ve been doing that more lately, waiting until the work is all dry THEN lifting. For some reason, I just have better results that way. If the paint is too wet it just makes a mess for me when trying to lift it. These colors are wonderful together and you have such great water control. I never see cauliflower blooms in your pieces. Sometimes I like them if they’re not too obvious. Other times I cover them up. Luckily, I’m getting less of them as I paint more. Thanks for sharing your lovely videos. I always learn so much from them. Blessings dear one! 💗Rita
Thank you Rita!! I am glad you are feeling the joy in this landscape ✨ It was certainly a joy to create it! Lifting paint after it has dried is such a handy little technique. I also feel that the surface of the paper is disturbed less when we lift the dried paint instead of when the paper is still wet. Have fun with your watercolors! 😊
I love your confidence and knowledge of colors. The colors do create and set a mood of happiness. Thank you. I need to get some potters pink, and some of those greens.
Thank you so much! Potter’s Pink is such a beautiful colour - I think it is an amazing addition to every watercolour palette ✨ It is so subtle, so it works very well in mixes, and its granulation is sublime!
What a beautiful, happy painting! Bravo! I especially love that dynamic, diagonal dry brush work in the lower left. Glad you left alone; it's the strongest diagonal in the painting. Interesting that you glazed some cool blue on top of the Potter's pink. I actually though that the downward diagonal formed by the pink and golden hues was fairly strong; adding the blue softened it bit, at least the contribution from the pink. It also shifted the temperature of the work. Adding that glaze of Aussie Red Gold over the distant misty, snow-capped Sodalite mountain range also was an interesting choice, shifting the temperature and color balance again! 😁
Thank you for watching and for sharing your thoughts - I really appreciate it! I love glazing different colours on top of each other to the colour palette of a scene and to play with the warm and the cool tones. And the result is often a surprise, and that's what I love about watercolours the most. Thanks again, and happy painting!
Very dreamy and beautifully done. I love how you take the trouble to annotate your videos with explanations of the process, that is so helpful and much appreciated. That's a great choice of colours your using too. I've been trying a few Michael Harding paints recently: Verditer Blue, Yellow Lake and Moss Green. The moss green is one I'm sure you'll love.
Thank you for watching! Happy to know you find my notes helpful too. Moss Green by Michael Harding looks so dreamy. It reminds me of Undersea Green by Daniel Smith, but on a more saturated side - I can see they share very similar pigments. I love warm greens, and I'll put Moss Green on my wish list. Thank you for the suggestion!
Wooow my dear Anastasia, what a charming, beautiful and most vibrant picture. It’s definitely one of my favorites . What a beauty ! Thank you dear. It is always such a delight watching you create magical landscapes❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you for sharing! I just love how you make water and colors dance. It's such a delight to witness you create something beautiful each time you hold a brush. You are such an inspiration. ❤ If you don't mind me asking, what are your "must have" colors in your watercolor palette?
Thank you for watching and for your lovely comment! I really appreciate it. I love your question about the must-have colours. My most used colours are French Ultramarine, Indigo, Payne's Grey, Perylene Green, Burnt Umber, Burnt Sienna, Raw Sienna Light, Aussie Red Gold, Lavender, and Sepia. I find that just these colours are more than enough for painting atmospheric landscapes. My most used "fun" colours currently are Olive Green, Potter's Pink, Green Gold, and Quinacridone Sienna - I think I've used all of these in this video, and they are just such happy colours to paint with.
@@AnastasiaMily Thank you for taking the time to answer my question. I truly appreciate it. I bet the colors are happy to be where you placed them! 🥰 Can't wait for your next video. I hope you have a fabulous day.
I had the most beautiful optical illusion when you raised the paper @3:59 - It looked like the colors were all rising off the paper almost an inch in tiny filaments of texture. Ok, maybe it was that odd little cigarette someone gave me 😂. Just kidding (about the cigarette).
How fascinating!! Sometimes watercolours do look absolutely unreal when they blend like this. Thank you for sharing what you saw! And for watching too.
Thank you for watching and for your kind words! This palette was made by a local ceramicist, I am not sure if she has more in stock... Here is the link to her shop: www.etsy.com/au/shop/thehavenscollection
Thank you for watching and for your kind words! That brush is a synthetic squirrel mop by an Australian company called NEEF, size 3/0. Because of its size, it is more like a soft round brush that comes to a nice point.
@@AnastasiaMily Thank you so much Anastasia for your answer and your kindness. I live in Europe, so let's see what is possible. And thank you very very much for sharing your paiting processes, it is so inspiring 🙂
Thanks Julie, glad you enjoyed it! I normally place the signature where I think it would still keep the composition balanced and would not create too much contrast not to disrupt the journey of the viewer's gaze along the scene
I think there are no rules about it really - just place it wherever you think it looks good 😊 I also try to place it not too close to the edge in case the painting gets framed later.
Hello! I have a few ALEX drawer units from IKEA that are great for storing artworks on paper. Also, I use plastic storage boxes. Thankfully watercolour paintings do not take up much space.

What a great tip lifting off the highlight of the tree before you paint it, gets rid of the background colours from the tree 👍❤️
