Something we are sorely missing today, even Nintendo has reverted to just releasing a handful of AAA games, we no longer have the string of fantastic gameplay packed and comfort games from Sega, Nintendo, Rare, Sony, Hudson, Taito, Capcom, and so on any more sadly, even Sony used to put out amazing arcade style games, or just fun comfort games like Sky Odyssey, Pilot Academy, Dropship, ICO, Spider, Crash Bash, Bishi Bashi Special, Abes Odyssey, Ape Escape, now it's just left to the Indie devs to make these types of games, and now and then there are some great ones, like the Steamworld Dig & Heist games, but nothing like the level we used to enjoy, I mean just look at the amazing gems available on the GBA/PSP/DS, those filled the void for a while, as they often had those great arcade and just gameplay rich games, but even proper traditional handhelds don't exist any more, they exist in the same space as normal consoles, and rarely do we get the great soundtracks in games like we used to, audio is just an afterthought 90% of the time in modern games.
Wow I remember this game in the arcade! I recall it being difficult to pump the device fast and also the spectacle of the thing had them charging 50 cents or more per play. But the simple short gameplay was great for playing while waiting for your turn again on one of the popular fighting games. loled at 4:26 such a great analogy ;)
I like how it starts out with mostly a semi-plausible railway and then immediately in the next stage goes into the rail track going directly over crocodile-infested waters with no bridge, floating tracks with a lion chilling on it, etc. Love the fun energy
It's like a model 3 homage. Sorta pump your way through a model 3 greatest hits pack. All what's missing is deep space, a mountain, a city and race track. Then every game is represented
To me I think the levels in this game are inspired/references to other entertainment that was popular or relevant at the time. The first level is literally the island of sodor from thomas the tank engine and friends (even some of the engines you see are straight up almost the actual characters), the safari level clearly references the lion king. Especially when you're in the trench with the wildebeests (only thing missing is scar throwing mufasa off the cliff), the underwater level looks like it's meant to be jaws, the prehistoric level looks like it's meant to be jurrassic park, as for the futuristic and medieval levels I can't tell what they're meant to reference.
I just started this on Supermodel it is AWESOME, very good graphics and sound and wholesome as heck hahaha. Oddly I am a giant Sega arcade fan (I own multiple Model 2 and 3 boards and am the admin of the Sega Model 1-3 group on FB) and never heard of this one somehow.
@@VideoGameEsoterica They're stacked deep in my closet right now, and some are in varying conditions/need of repair until I get a better workspace setup and my job gets some BGA equipment for reballing. I remember seeing one of the cabinets all the time at Chuck E. Cheese's in the early to mid 2000s. I never actually beat it because it's REALLY taxing on the player, even if you have a second player helping you, but DAMN was it fun. Also, neat bit of trivia, this game uses assets from a cancelled Thomas the Tank Engine game. In the first level, you can see trains that look identical to Thomas the Tank Engine characters.
I remember playing this game in arcades in the 90s and it wasn't the best for me because my arms cramped up from shaking the handle so much. It took a week to recover. XD
Yet another incredible Sega arcade title that for whatever reason never saw a console port. Sega has apparently decided to disown 95 % of their Model 2 and Model 3 libraries. Literally the best stuff they ever made.
"On Rails Platformer"? As fun as it would be to set that up on my home emulation arcade, I've got no idea what the best method would be to capture the control scheme. Does the input register only the up and down states or also the speed of the pump? Turning it into a button masher seems like the way to go...?
I have played this arcade and it is insane, you will be winded out in 2 minutes and you need to cop to be able to turn and dodge incoming hazards, it is fun but it is a total coin eater (I went to a free play arcade, but still did not continue or repeat because this game is exhausting).

Kind of gives me Sonic Adventure 2 vibes. Sega really had an identity back then, that's for sure.
Sega used those same bright colors across so many games

Yes as a cabinet it’s def a workout!
Back in the day our local mall had one. It was pretty gross and sticky though so I never wanted to play it lol

It’s such a unique game. Classic Sega doing something totally random and making a hit
love the graphic style
It’s held up so well

It’s just wholly unique and for Sega that’s really saying something

Not a bad theory at all. Logic checks out
I wish I played this back in the day. I saw this in a mall near where I worked and it was expensive to play.

does the resistance for the pump go up when you have to get away from the train?

Why not multiplayer co-op fps gameplay while we’re at it? Lol
