For the past 28 years, Jim Nantz has essentially been the face of CBS Sports. He’s always been a consummate professional and I’m happy that he’s spending more time with his family so he could focus on Golf and the NFL at his age
Same here. He is the goat when it comes to sports broadcasting and to me he’s the equivalent of Tom Brady, taking time off to spend time with his kids.
“GIVES IT TO JENKINS, FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP! YESSSSSSSSSSSS!” That call will always give me shivers. An all timer. He’s one of the greatest, glad we will still have Jim Nantz on the NFL and Golf.
“Can I tell ya one other thing? Not to try and play off ‘hello friends’- but to you, to everyone in the college game- the CBS family, my family, all the viewers- thank you for being my friend.” 🐐
Nantz spoke to my sports broadcasting class at UNC last year, before March madness. It was so surreal to talk to him (although it was virtual) and then hear him call one of our biggest games in history a month after that
he lived through pretty much all in the tournament... Even his Houston Cougars in the final four a couple years ago. Even though the championship wasn't won, Carolina won the rivalry forever. Duke will never have the chance to retire Dean Smith with a win in Chapel Hill and a March Madness battle (as a Carolina fan, I assume you know the result of the final home game for the Dean in 97)
thank you for the great memories Jim and God bless I will always remember the 2016 championship game where Kris Jenkins won the title for Villanova at the buzzer
Verne Lundquist and Jim Nants and Billy Packer and Gary Danielson, and Dickie V, and Al Michaels, and Joe Buck, and Tim McCarver, Have made my time watching Sports an amazing experience💯❤️🇲🇽🫡
I've grown up hearing his voice for March Madness. His final line for whoever wins the title was always the best part for One Shining Moment. Whoever wins next year's title, savor it, embrace it bc not only will you end up #1, but you're sending a legend out on top
@@Mrcharles. I will watch. Not with the cbs feed though (I'm from Brazil), but march madness is broadcasted here. I'll see the repercussion of Jim's farewell later
I watched the Virginia-Texas Tech game at the South Point sports book with about 250 others. That's the most electric atmosphere for a game I've ever witnessed.
Regardless of the outcome of this year's tournament, the final game will certainly be bitter sweet. Jim Nantz's contribution to March madness will never be forgotten and sorely missed in the years to come.
I started following college basketball in the mid-1980s and Nantz has always been a voice of it; first as the host and then the announcer. But it's time. For the better part of the past 20 years he has only done a game or two the entire regular season and swooped in at the very end for March Madness. He's done great work for 32 years but I absolutely agree with allowing an announcer like Eagle, who calls college hoops games for CBS all season, to become their main voice of the sport. Eagle has more than earned the opportunity.
I think he had no regular season assignmets between Kentucky-Carolina in 2011 and Memphis vs Houston last season. Only the Big 10 tournament and March Madness. I understand, he calls pretty much everything on CBS. But I also would love to see Ian Eagle calling the final four
@@otaviofrnazario He did a few games in between but they were always the last Sunday of the regular season, just like last weekend when he did Memphis-Houston again. I know he did Indiana-Michigan one year and Purdue/Northwestern in another.
This is kind of a thing Jim would say in a telecast that I'm going to say "Beginning in 1991 when Duke beat Kansas to 2022 when Kansas won the Championship it's been a pleasure watching and listening to you and we will miss you in March 🏀😀
College basketball is special. The NCAA Tournament is 10x more entertaining and emotionally engaging, even when your favorite team isn't playing, than the NBA.
I remember when Musburger did his last NCAA title game for CBS, after he voiced the dramatic tournament matchups of the 1980s. Who could have expected then that the games, the moments, the drama would get exponentially better when Nantz took over.
true... the bad thing about Musburguer is that he was kicked out of CBS, and couldn't go on his own terms. Nantz had that chance. What I really love about college hoops overall is that there is a balance that seems to be bigger than in other sports. Any day can be a day for upsets. There are many smaller teams that we don't follow all that well during the regular season that have their shining moment when March comes. I mean, look at that Lehigh that defeated Duke, they had CJ McCollum. A lot of hidden talent
Thank you Jim Nantz for all the memories of this tournament. And his final national championship will be on CBS. What a way to end this. Ian will have big shoes to fill
all true But I think Ian can keep the same level, he is been great for a long time and deserves his shot as a lead broadcaster nationally for any of the events he calls
How can you forget the cliffhangers, ranging from Butler-Duke, Iowa State- Ohio State. To even North Carolina- Villanova. And in this case, TBS went for Jim, and if you are keeping track, UNC title game was called by Wes Durham and for Villanova, Scott Graham, 3 great voices for the price of 1 if you had TBS,TNT and TRUTV
I sure hope that Horse Racing’s Triple Crown can come back to CBS Sports… it would be awesome If Sean McManus can get something his Father loved so dearly
The Hayward shot for Butler from half court at the buzzer against Duke is my favorite , and it was a miss. Two inches lower on the backboard and that would have been the perfect Cinderella ending and greatest shot in NCAA tourney history
