  • In the right place at the right time for the first time in a while; just like that water spot on the lens. Solid 40lb+ Bluefin Tuna caught on the Overnight trip on the Pride out of Seaforth Landing, Mission Bay Ca. Excellent fishing thanks to the excellent crew & the awesome fellow anglers. Using Seeker Hercules 30-60lb w/ Shimano Talica II 8 loaded with 65lb Power Pro to modified albright knot to 30lb flurocarbon leader & 3/0 mustad 94150. Talica's drag was super smooth and the Seeker Hercules feels lightweight with maximum pulling power.

    Thanks. The Talica 8 is a solid reel. It's powerful yet small, but if that's what your looking for I recommend it. It handled that Bluefin Tuna without any problems. Fished it for about a year without any issues.

      How often would you use the 2 speed?

    I like 8 than 10, 12 than 16. Because 8,12 has narrow spool.

      no they suck, i broke more talicas than any other reel. they are smooth because shimano only cares about selling them in shop, my penn torques, okuma makairas and even fathoms are better than them, ive had the talica 12ii 16ii and 20ii and they suck.

    Nice video and awesome catch. Were you using the 7' or 8' Hercules 30-60# rod?

      @robirdofrom  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks ... It's the 7' seeker hercules 30-60lb. It's the perfect size for casting larger live baits.

    Do you think putting 20lb mono main line on the Talica and going after the same fish would be okay? Or is braid preferred. Thank you.

    I'm debating on getting the Seeker Hercules 30-60 to match my JX Raptor, but I wanted to know would the rod actually handle 60 lbs? in the video it really bent with 30 lbs line, I just to be sure I can push it to its limit or should I go for the 40-80?

      +dima5860 the 30 to 60 is good enough for the jx in my opinion....when you asked if that rod can handle 60 lbs did you mean 60 lbs fish or using 60lb test......if youre asking about fish that rod can handle 100lb fish if you're lucky enough to hook one....and just because its really bent with 30lb line it would bend just the same if you were fishing 40 or 50 on it.....honestly i rather have a more parabolic rod than a really stiff one..easier on the back....the rating on the rod has to do with the line....a 30-60 is typically a 40-50 lb rod....that hercules is more like a 40lb rod which means you should be fine fishing 40lb line with about 10 to 13 lbs of drag....as long as you stay within the recommended parameters of the rod you will be fine.....i've landed 60lb yft on my calstar 700l rated at 15-30 with a trinidad 14a...you're setup should have no problem...the 40 to 80 is too heavy in my opinion....

      +kyleg2527 Thanks for the reply.
      I typically fish 40-50 for YT and yft but with the JX Raptor I get up to 28 lbs of drag at strike. So I'm debating if I should get the Seeker Hercules 7ft rated 30-60 or 40-80 so it would match the Raptors power, hence the inquiry
      TL:DR, wondering if 60 lbs line would be too much for that rod at 18 pounds of drag

    • @kyleg2527
      @kyleg2527 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +dima5860 ....i think if you're fishing 60 that might be a little much for that 30-60 rod....and yeah reels these days have ridiculous drag pressure...but honestly people cant handle that much drag...lol 25 lbs of drag is a CRAZY amount of drag.....have you ever tried lifting a 25 lb dumb bell at the end of an 8 foot rod?.....i dont know the math exactly but its like dead lifting well over 200 lbs maybe in the 300s.....99.9 percent of people cant handle that amount of drag for more than a minute unless they have harnesses....anything around here i think 8-14 lbs of drag is plenty....i have my talica 12II and ive never used more that 16 at strike.....if you're going to use that much drag with that jx then id go with the 40-80

    I plan to buy the talica 8 the single speed version, do you think it will have the same smoothness and will be as good as the 2 speed?

    • @noahboyhong
      @noahboyhong 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      lamadrid better to have the 2 speed and not need than need the 2 speed and not need it. What im saying is, I think you should spend $50 more and get the 2 speed.

    Do you like seeker herc more so than Terez? What does the seeker run?

    • @kyleg2527
      @kyleg2527 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Damian Best ....the seeker hercules run about 300+....they have really high quality guides....the guides are the most expensive component on that rod....i honesly like the quality on the seeker better than the terez....but the terez are lighter and easier on the fisherman....i'd look into phenix rods....i own 8 of them and they are really nice....
