Funny story for the "scale over detail" thing you mentioned. I was in a build competition hosted by MCProHosting, and the theme was "Winter". I decided that I wanted to make a detailed mountain range with a christmas town at the bottom. Upon completion of the mountians though.... they were exceedingly short. So in about 10 hours time, after already about 15 hours of work, I flipped the script and doubled the size of the mountians, put a massive bridge & train on them, and built the christmas village at the bottom like plan. went back and detailed it later, and after a few weeks, i won the competition. I even did a video on my channel showcasing the absolute scale of the thing in shaders, if you're genuinely intrigued by it (not trying to self promo, I'm really just proud of the work i did). Fifty hours of work, for a free Xbox One S, i"d say it was worth it! I can 1,000,000% agree, scale over detail, in any situation
Ah, my 40 × 40 fortress with four small rooms and a tower is done, hey, i even put in a secret area to stash any valuable ore i found under the floor using a sticky piston, I'm so proud of- * sees mumbo's creations * ... * deletes save *
Well, here's the thing though. If you don't *need* a giant base, why go through all the pain and misery to make one? If your 40x40 fortress is all you need for a base, be happy with it. Mumbo said that scale is better than detail. I disagree. What's the point of building a *GIANT 500x500x100 CITADEL OF EPICNESS* if you can't even fill it, or if you don't have the time or the resources to make it look good enough to satisfy you? The smaller the base, the easier it would be to upgrade it to your liking, and thus the more time you can spend doing so. You don't have to be a god. Just be you. :D
Is it even possible? Wait, now that I've asked, someone will do it. Will you send me the world so I can see it? I don't have the guts to build flying machines, I can barely build storage :p
Catherine Reed I find that it helps to understand the principles behind each system. It makes them a lot more approachable. I didn't start doing Redstone until a few weeks ago and I'm really close with the staircase, or at least it seems like it.
Mumbo - your SEASON7 house is an octagon... and you obviously didn't figure it out in creative, cause you had so many issues on the diagonal towers...... None the less, awesome video as always!
1. Natural focal point(give building purpose) 2. Don’t limit yourself with borders 3. Don’t bite off more than you can chew(don’t build giant areas with nothing to fill them with) 4. Build with purpose 5. Not everything has to be symmetrical 6. Make storage system nice and easy to access(you’re going to be there a lot) 7. ALWAYS Test in creative before you build in survival 8. Look through TH-cam or other platforms for inspiration 9. Manage your resources( don’t build with stuff like netherite blocks too often) 10. Don’t build completely with brick(you’ll regret it) 11. Manage your time(don’t be unhealthy) 12. Know what you wanna build and if you’ll enjoy it.(adapt to your play styles) 13. Choose a block palette 14. Choose a good biome you like 15. Gather before building(it’s a demotivation if you don’t) 16. Build a “skeleton first”(base or structure) 17. Take a step back and look at what you’re doing 18. BRING SCAFFOLDING AND SLIME BLOCKS YOULL THANK ME LATER 19. After you’re done find some things you can redo or finish other projects 20. Not everything has to be in your base. I basically summed up the video. You’re welcome.
note: when Mumbo said "test things out", I recommend actually testing things out instead of building the whole thing, I've built my bases in creative mode before and I got burnt out even before I started in survival
1:41 seeing the season 5 base again gave me flashbacks to when mumbo had a mental breakdown because he lost loads of sand trying to dry out the guardian farm 😂
Since figuring out how to progress to mid game play in survival I've spent most of my game time in creative mode trying to sort out how to: 1. Build bigger in my style 2. Ensure efficiency of the layout 3. Include all of the things plus their redstone 4. Leave room for expansion 5. Remember to have decorative spaces. So far it's a big puzzle in colorful wool. An aquarium is something I hadn't thought to add. One would look nice near the enchanting area and I can combine that with an afk fishing farm. Thanks for the inspiration.
Mumbo: "If you want to build a beautiful cityscape with gorgeously-mowed lawns that are bright green and lovely flowers, don't construct it in a swamp." American colonists founding Washington D.C in 1790: yeah about that
I once tried making a big house. It wasn't too big when compared to your Megabases. Instead, I made my house of only the size of the 4 average ,,First Day at Minecraft" houses. And it still ended up very annoying to walk to the places I need to be. HOW am I supposed to create such epic Megabases when I CAN'T EVEN properly create medium sized Regular Houses?!
I understand you, bro I hate making big houses or even regular, try to make a base like mumbos but 4 times smaller you know, I have the underground base like mumbo s underwater bunker
@@christianbh hacking does take the fun out of it though. I remember I had a world thought I played on for probably three years about 6 years ago but it got deleted. I cried for about a week but then I got my dad to do some hacker stuff and I got the world's back. But while we did that I also placed in about 25 diamond blocks from creative. I only played on that world for about a few more days before it wasn't fun anymore
very cmolty I agree. That’s why that map didn’t even last a week. It’s fun when your giving yourself the stuff and when you’re playing with the stuff but the fun dies really fast. Getting the stuff is half the fun.
I built my base in a server as my version/vision of the stark/avengers tower, almost totally eyeballed. And I gotta say, its one of the first bases I've built in this game over a very long time that I'm very proud of. It has several floors where I can fit farms or decorative/trophy stuff, a very large underground area where I can still fit quite a few things, and I already made villager-powered crop farms on some of the floors of my tower that give me tons of food, as well as a supersmelter, XP farm, concrete breaker, and iron farm. Still plenty of space to fit small-ish farms/contraptions as I need. And plenty of space to make a couple annexed builds. I think your and grian's tips really helped out a lot. And its something I'm finally truly proud of. And the best thing now is, due to the massive rooms I dug up for my stuff, I now have plenty of random blocks to fill in the nearby ravines/caves. It was probably easier for me since the server has a shop system, but not everything can be bought from it, and slowly but surely I'm relying less and less on it.
I always start my survival playthroughs in creative so I get the base out of the way. I do eventually add onto the base, but I always get a good starter done like a small fort or castle.
Mumbo, this question isn't related to the video, but have you ever delved into the command block side of redstone? There are many different uses for command blocks that aren't feasible with regular redstone circuits. I know command blocks are creative-only and most of your videos focus on survival builds, but I'm curious what you'd come up with!

Nice!!!
@@beardyfoxy that is true, hehehe. But I had fun doin' it, so I'm content :)
Wasn’t self promo but I still subbed lmao

Please make a endless flying machine spiral staircase. I've been trying for a while but it keeps falling apart.

I was literally just struggling with this in my world.. Are you a mind reader, Mumbo?

1. Natural focal point(give building purpose)
2. Don’t limit yourself with borders
3. Don’t bite off more than you can chew(don’t build giant areas with nothing to fill them with)
4. Build with purpose
5. Not everything has to be symmetrical
6. Make storage system nice and easy to access(you’re going to be there a lot)
7. ALWAYS Test in creative before you build in survival
8. Look through TH-cam or other platforms for inspiration
9. Manage your resources( don’t build with stuff like netherite blocks too often)
10. Don’t build completely with brick(you’ll regret it)
11. Manage your time(don’t be unhealthy)
12. Know what you wanna build and if you’ll enjoy it.(adapt to your play styles)
13. Choose a block palette
14. Choose a good biome you like
15. Gather before building(it’s a demotivation if you don’t)
16. Build a “skeleton first”(base or structure)
17. Take a step back and look at what you’re doing
18. BRING SCAFFOLDING AND SLIME BLOCKS YOULL THANK ME LATER
19. After you’re done find some things you can redo or finish other projects

No Grian likes bricks
note: when Mumbo said "test things out", I recommend actually testing things out instead of building the whole thing, I've built my bases in creative mode before and I got burnt out even before I started in survival
1:41 seeing the season 5 base again gave me flashbacks to when mumbo had a mental breakdown because he lost loads of sand trying to dry out the guardian farm 😂
4:44 no grian told you it was a bad idea
Since figuring out how to progress to mid game play in survival I've spent most of my game time in creative mode trying to sort out how to: 1. Build bigger in my style 2. Ensure efficiency of the layout 3. Include all of the things plus their redstone 4. Leave room for expansion 5. Remember to have decorative spaces. So far it's a big puzzle in colorful wool.
An aquarium is something I hadn't thought to add. One would look nice near the enchanting area and I can combine that with an afk fishing farm. Thanks for the inspiration.

Thanks mumbo dude !
CONGRATS ON 3 MIL!!! I just noticed and wanted to congratulate you. Nice job!
Same guys.its literaly annoying to find where what is if you have a Megabase

@@christianbh lol
Mumbo Jumbo: How to Build EPIC BASES in Survival Minecraft!
Grian has joined the game.
Mumbo, you definitely create truly amazing builds.
I always start my survival playthroughs in creative so I get the base out of the way. I do eventually add onto the base, but I always get a good starter done like a small fort or castle.
1:36 wow! Mumbo! Did you build overhangs back then!? Lol
@bill cipher lol
Nope
Mumbo, this question isn't related to the video, but have you ever delved into the command block side of redstone? There are many different uses for command blocks that aren't feasible with regular redstone circuits. I know command blocks are creative-only and most of your videos focus on survival builds, but I'm curious what you'd come up with!
He builds everything in creative though
