My eyes were leaking watching this. Almost 32 years since I lost my dad when I was 24. He was 56. It's crazy how vehicles connect us in different ways. We had planned on picking up a 78 Corvette in the spring of 92 and doing some work together on it as a cruiser we could share. Sadly he never made it to that spring and I said to him at the funeral , someday Dad, I'll get us our Vette. A promise unfulfilled at this point but not giving up hope. Your dad will be in your mind and heart every damn day , and it's the greatest feeling when you know they are directing you from above .

LEAVE IT STOCK, for Pete’s sake! It would be awesome, for you especially, to be in the truck, with no changes, that you drove in high school and of which you have so many fond memories. So we I say, LEAVE IT STOCK.

I think a truck with that much sentimental value deserves to be restored to its original condition. I wouldn’t do something crazy with it personally, I’d want it to feel like the same old truck my dad used to drive me around in. Man this one got me balling my eyes out. I lost my Dad in October 2019 and it still hurts every single day. My Dad was the best person I have ever met and many other people will say the same thing about him. He was always ready to help anyone in need even though he never had much he always found a way. He would give every second of his time to be there for someone in need but to his family he gave even more. He sacrificed everything for me and my sister and later in life my son. He died of lung cancer having fulfilled none of his own dreams. He was a Nebraskan farm boy, a Vietnam veteran, he held a degree in electronics, he was a master carpenter, welder, craftsman and machinist. He built houses from the ground up and restored centuries old national landmarks. He's made by hand from scratch countless different items ranging from walking canes and incense burners to cattle feeders and wood burning stoves with every single one of his creations being a thing of perfection and work of art the quality being higher than what you'd get from any factory. On top of all that he was a wise and intelligent man never stopping his quest for knowledge. He was spiritual but not religious, he had a philosophical mind and he had a love of life like I've never seen before or since. There's much more that can be said about him and his life but none of that mattered to him because above all these things what mattered to him the most, what in his eyes was his greatest achievement was being a father to his kid's. Not that we ever became or did anything special (with me especially being an epic failure) but none of that mattered to him. He loved us and saw nothing but perfection in us. That's the kind of man he was. He could meet the worst person alive and nothing but the best in them. . . . He can rest now, his hard work is done. Thank you Dad. I love you and I miss you.
    In memory of my Dad,
    Paul Brand.

He is still doing great and drives fine still. When that day comes either way it happens I plan on keeping his truck till I quit driving or pass away. If I were you I would restore the truck to like new factory condition. That I think would have been what your dad would have liked the most. Good luck in your decision.

bro james we are all there with you mate, every car has a meaning your dad is a legend and the fact he got to enjoy your success and being in the aventador he must have been so proud, he may never have said it but in those moments you had in lamborghinis with his son, he probably felt at peace and every sacrifice was worth it. from living in your audi to now hes looking down and just so proud mate. you didnt need to share this moment but you did and your dad will live on through you. im just sorry for your loss. keep pushing and striving

James, I know your dad is extremely proud of you, and everyone here is too. He has raised you so well, and you truly deserve every good thing that comes your way. I would say keep the truck the same on the outside, maybe just refresh the paint (keep the same color), and maybe gut the car, put new parts it, make it something your dad would be proud of!

I'm 69. I grew up in Salt Lake City.
I moved to Portland Oregon in 1978. Then to Eugene/Springfield this year.
I've owned several older Nissan Hardbody trucks. I too drive them so I could give my son a better life.
It's so cool that you cared enough about this old truck which your dad used to have. I'm impressed that you flew to the East Coast in hopes of buying this truck back.
I just found your channel. I will look for videos about driving this truck back to Utah.

I could feel your emotion when you got the truck back. Similar my father passed about 2 years ago and i miss the sound of his voice often. We weren't rich by any means but my dad worked his butt off so we always had what we needed. He never bought me a new car but bought me my first car at 17 and then taught me how to maintain and fix it up. I thank him everyday because i've been buying, fixing and selling old cars all my life. I've never been in a position to afford a new vehicle, so buying older vehicles and fixing them has gotten my family by for years. You will value that old truck more than your spagetti cars and it will outlast them. Good work finding it and bringing it back to where it belongs.

I sit here with tears flowing down my cheeks and I pray that you make him proud of making this your vehicle that represents your love for him. June 16 makes it 9 years since I’ve lost my mother. It’s truly hell losing a parent, especially when younger. The only thing that gets easier is coping, but whenever they cross your mind it takes over all emotion. James, I don't post very often on TH-cam or social media in general, but I just want to say how happy I am for you. I can't imagine how awesome it must feel to not only find out the truck was still alive and not crushed years ago at some junk yard; but that you were able to track down exactly where it was and get it back. That's amazing.
As cool as some ideas might be, I'd hate for you to change too much about what the truck means to you and your family to where it doesn't feel the same anymore. I personally would go the restomod route making it completely reliable and safe to drive. But I would keep as much of it the same as how your family remembers it. Don't drop some crazy V10 in it or anything, it wouldn't feel right.
Congrats again on finding it. Look forward to seeing more about what you plan to do.
