    this was massively helpful.... thank you for your time and energy.... after a ten year odyssey around the world I have come home to write about the experience.... but it is proving to be an overwhelming amount of experiences and therefor very slow progress in writing... mainly because I just don't know where to start.... this video helps a lot so thank you again..

    Good information and much appreciated. Thank you. Unfortunately, I found it really quite distracting that there was so much constant background noise and music. It wasn't until near the end (when waiters were bringing in plates of food) that I realized the music and noise were coming from the restaurant venue where the talk was being recorded. Perhaps a different venue, for recording purposes, in the future would be more desirable...? Just a suggestion. :) Thank you so much for all you shared. Good info!

    Very compelling and valuable video! (and I just purchased a new copy of "Sunder of Time" because of it)....too bad about the "Evil Camera" ending, but it did not take anything away from the video.

    I met Frank McCourt when I was working and a student at Columbia. I was told by a friend in the president’s office that I should invite Frank McCourt to be a speaker and honoree at my masters degree ceremony. So I did and he was there

    What if thw people wo urticaria us are family members? How can we turn them into a friend? I think I would then have to make things up about this fictional person.

    Can we write a memoir of a person who is very well known to us?

    • @nonsensefreeeditor
      @nonsensefreeeditor  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes indeed! It's called a portrait memoir and they're quite common. Most often they're written about a parent but anyone close to you will do

    What happens when the person i want to write about is my late brother and what i want to say affects his children? I think i need to clarify what i am talking about for you to understand the brevity of the consequences of my choices. I grew up in a family where my siblings and I were sexually abused. I waited until all my siblings died tbefore i made my life public because i didn't want them to revisit a period in their life that they were not willing to face. I later learned my brother had become an abuser. I learned this when i revealed my truth pubicly and one of his children opened up to me. I am writing this memoir with good intentions but i am afraid that i will harm those who were closest to him. At the same time i feel the need to explore how blurred those lines are between good and evil and how easily we as a people judge , condemn and punish. The reason i waited this long to write is now the very same reason i find myself in a quandry. Yet it is a story i feel compelled to write . I don't kow how to prevent the fallout that is bound to happen should this work get published. I think what i need is an editor who can help me traverse this shaky ground. I don't want to write a memoir about sexual abuse and leave readers hanging because i was too scared of facing my whole truth.

    • @nonsensefreeeditor
      @nonsensefreeeditor  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I also made a video on how not to get sued for your memoir, which I recommend. But basically you're on safe ground if what you say is true and it happened to you firsthand. It gets shaky if you're repeating a story someone else told you that you didn't observe.

    • @fatima-purposefullybeautif5950
      @fatima-purposefullybeautif5950 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nonsensefreeeditor thank you. I will look up how not to get sued . I think what i am worrying about is the ethics of hurting others because i feel the need to open the wound. Although i might not have witnessed an event, i believe it because his growing anger translated into his daily life. As hard a pill as it is swallow i can in hindsight see the trajectory. I also don't want to be in a situation where i don't believe sombody who opens up to being abused.

      Do it! If you have a story, you're have the right to write. Some people don't live very long lives. Does that mean those people should appear and disappear from the planet without telling their story? Think about how many people in history who barely even lived past their 20's!

      What if you make a series of novellas each about different themes and showing different scenes from your life? Would that be a way to share more if you had multiple themes?
