1. What is the focus of the memoir? 2. Is it relatable to other people? How will it help others? 3. Why are you the one to write it? What in your experience is relevant?
This is motivating - clear, easy tips. It’s taking me a few years of time on time off to grow and rethink and rewrite better. My issue has been too much memory and what to let go of vs what to keep. I’m now adding dreams since they’re pertinent to my story and Im letting my growth grow as I grew. Im 71 now & want to leave this for my grandkids, but chose to leave out abuse - I forgave and don’t need to repeat or relive it. I have enough without it. So, focus! What is my main point- that’s what guides me. Thank you so much for this. I love Reedsy videos.
I’m watching your show 9/25/22. I’m writing memoirs. I’m 73 with an interesting past. I have lots of memoirs in me. I just feel I’m running out of time. So I’m working on two books I feel must get done. One is about a rustic stilthouse on Gulf wildlife refuge. It starts in 1950’s and goes to 1985 when its destroyed by a Hurricane. Besides family there were two governors, a greyhound bus of legislators, football coaches and players, local celebrities and friends that visited. It was secluded, a Florida of 150 years ago. There was also an accidental death taken place there. It’s a local history. And the second is about my first out-of body experience prior to my grandfathers death in 1977, and those approximately 15 other experiences I’ve had including a near-death experience. I don’t have a completed manuscript. I have chapters done. It needs organization. I could use help. I need to work with a publisher. I have photos, drawings, and paintings to add to the house book. We called it Seldom Inn. I’d like to write about my hitchhiking in 1973, or living two winters in a car in Key West. I can’t possibly write about them all. I need an interested ghostwriter. Any advice appreciated.
Thank you for clear and to the point expalnation. It makes me want to get back to writing and finish my book. Thank you so much for your energy and motivativing me !!
I tried numerous times to join your Discord channel. The captcha kept telling me I didn't get it right, and I did it a dozen times. I can't tell you how many dogs, horses and motorcycles I clicked, but apparently I can't tell a bus from a traffic light. I'll try again someday.
Chat 'replay'; did I miss the main event? Also, it sorta' sounds, from the topics posted, like memoirs consist mostly of Reader's Digest type pitiful-experience parties; that so?

I love it when someone summarises points that everyone is going to query later. What were those three questions. Thank you so much.
this is one of the better ones I've seen from Reedsy-- very clear and informative about how this works in the real world.

This was extremely helpful and informative. One of the best Reedsy lives I have watched!
Very informative, and I appreciate this presentation.

Great help for me - I've been vaccinating between a CNF and a memoir, and now think more clearly...email coming your way. Thank you!
Excellent real advice with no bullshit!
Really enjoyable session. Articulate and amiable. Sensible thoughts and tips.

Could you please talk about Angelas Ashes?

Wick in Chico N CA; 77 years old; my memoir only goes until I was about thirty; marriage and kids mean a more-shared life, an not so nostalgic for me.

Have about 100K words done of my mis-spent youth (starting in 1945!) but never considered it being publishable; educate me!
