- Is Costco in the UK a total miss? I went to find some exciting new autumn/ fall/ halloween items, but it didn't go quite to plan..

We in the US take halloween/autumn VERY seriously; "Spirit Halloween" shops overtake every piece of empty commercial real estate after July, the kick off of college football and sweater weather parties, and of course pumpkin spiced everything.
I was on my way out the door to run some errands when I picked up my phone and it flashed a notification about your new video. I made a u-turn and went to my tv to watch it. As someone who worked for Costco for 18 years, I was all in. Regarding the lack of Halloween items, it’s quite possible they stocked them back in July (as you saw for Christmas, holidays come very early at Costco). And once the stock is gone, it’s gone. Beyond that, again, I thoroughly enjoyed your video with your sense of humor alway taking center stage (“…the months of ber,” “where do all the socks go?” Always such a treat to watch you scoot around. Thanks!

That is shocking that they have regulations about who can get a Costco card. I live in Windsor Canada; and being across from Detroit, our main source of income is from the automotive industry. Yet, Costco is keeping in business because of these factory workers for close to 30 years! I am not a member, because it is just the two of us and where would we put those giant cans of food, but my goodness, the class system is alive and well in Britain!
It's not Britain, it's just Costco is an Yank company.
An excellent mechanic I worked for (they specialized in Landrovers) said Costco is the best place for tyres - they are careful to align them, will only sell you the correct ones for your particular car, and have a great warrantee. They will also repair tyres (we had a puncture and they repaired it for free because of the warrantee).
@@ExoticDoll-ct3udin Canada and the US anyone can purchase a membership. This is a British thing.
I am also from Windsor, ON and when Costco first arrived early 90’s only certain professions were eligible for membership- not sure when they did away with it. We have HST like your VAT wish they’d show our price with tax- hate the surprise at the till!😉
@@graciellastokes7979 In the US it also does not show tax because our tax varies by state, county, and sometimes city whereas I think it the UK it is one rate everywhere.
This recent surge in popularity of Halloween seems to have almost killed off Guy Fawkes night a few days earlier, presumably because shops have realised there is more money to be made from Halloween.
Just more Americanisation of our country. Another British tradition ruined and soon to be lost.

Dressing Gowns are normally called house coats or bath robes.
There’s definitely a difference between a “housecoat” “bathrobe” and a “dressing gown” not sure what the difference is, but when I see them I can categorise which one is which……….its a gift………I think it might be my MARVEL superpower, like deadpool or iron man, I could be “ bathrobe/dressing gown/housecoat categorisation man” tada
A housecoat is something my grandmother wore in the days before central heating, a bath robe is something you wear when you get out of the bath wet and a dressing gown is something a woman might wear whilst she applies her makeup before putting on her going out dress on to avoid makeup spills. Alternatively, call it whatever you like!

Never been inside a Costco. That's a bit out of order having the price you pay, smaller and a bigger price. I bet that's caught heaps of people out.

Costco croissant are incredible and much cheaper than pretty much anywhere else. Oddly for a US based company they don't sell US sized clothing or shoes for people my size 🙂
p.s. Costco is a wholesaler and has to comply with the wholesale laws in the UK which restrict the amount of goods that can be sold to the "general public" but also influences how planning laws apply to their store locations. Frustrating for some, but beneficial to others.
I gained over two pounds in weight and acquired type 2 diabetes just watching the section on food. But on the plus side I now feel like a real American.

21 yr employee. Initially Costco was always just for the business community. The bulk was for retail stores to come and stock their stores. They were able to buy their stock months before the actual season so reg shoppers could buy at the actual season time. Britain may eventually allow the general public to become members just like here in Canada, and elsewhere. Even when the public were permitted, only the business card holders shopped for the first 45 minutes. Now it's a free for all chaos 😂 Right now, we have Halloween and Christmas in the stores. Pumpkin pie will be available around Thanksgiving time, October 2nd week. Costco will only carry proven sellers throughout the chain. It depends on your demographic, Halloween may not have proven its value in Britain yet. Your food items are definitely regional. You carry lots of foods we don't have in North America and vice-versa. Also, Canada cannot sell alcohol within the warehouse, Its a separate entity due to licensing laws. Happy shopping..

We are knee-deep in autumn in our house, all the autumnal Dec's are out, pumpkin cushions on the sofa, pumpkin candles lit, we are definitely celebrating this season

Here in Georgia, we had a mild reduction in temps, folks started breaking out the Fall decor....but no, Summer isn't done with us yet 😂.
It was explained to me that a bath robe is what you put on after a shower/bath, and it can 'dry' you, whereas a dressing gown is what you put on getting out of bed, over your nightwear.
It’s a shame Costco in the UK is such a missed opportunity. They’ve somehow managed to make a mess of one of the best businesses in the US.

Over here in the deep south, the southern hemisphere, we just had one of the coldest winters on record. I would not want to go into winter now 🥶. Global warming might have come to your rescue, but no, I see a colder than average winter is forecast due to a Polar Vortex. Watch out for those vortices.

I was at Costco here in Texas last week. It had plenty of Halloween decor and candy on display, as well as Christmas!
Autumn is my favorite time of the year because it means cooler weather will be coming to Texas!
I purchased a membership for my daughter (USA). We believed she would use the membership regularly. In fact, she has used it three times. I have not purchased anything at Costco I truly need.

I think the huge partial skeleton is supposed to go on one's front lawn. Yes, I live in the US. We go hog wild with Halloween decorations and it's fun. Some people cover their entire front yards with Halloween decorations, and it gets very elaborate. Some people use dry ice to simulate fog.

Housecoat is the button up version of the dressing gown which is a wrap around cover for the nightdress.
Sams Club (rival of Costco) and Lowes are still full of huge Halloween outdoor features/ornaments, but all the Christmas trees & ornaments are out as well. Where do people put this stuff when the special holidays are over? Thought the clothing was very disappointing. Looking forward to your next vlog.

Balsam Hill they sell artificial trees pre-lit advertising since July , we do like Christmas here in America the earlier they can start the better they like it . Christmas movies start showing last 2 weeks in October. We sing to skip Thanksgiving and go straight into Christmas . Other than that have a fantastic weekend Hannah. See you next week.

They have Panettone at both of my local Costco's in the US. And everywhere has pumpkin products - it seems to earlier and earlier every year.
Former Geordie and Teessider here. It has always been Dressing Gown to me, and I have never known it called anything else in the UK. Now I live in the USA they are called "Robes" or "Bath Robes"

The hot dog price is universal as it's the founders legacy. When he retired a few years back, it was one of those items he never wanted changed 😊

The prices are definitely higher considering the exchange rate. For instance I just saw the same touch lamps at our Costco in the U.S. for $20 and your is 20 pounds so that is higher. I can’t wait to visit the London Costco next time I’m there!
Looking at the people that British Costco allows to get memberships, it seems that they are in work that might make them more money than the average Joe. You'd think the average income earner could benefit best from Costco shopping, but who knows. I'm in Canada and anyone here can get a membership although I've yet to take the plunge. Hi Hannah, not boring or rubbish at all, you just commented on what was going on. Halloween is celebrated in US more than it ever has in the UK. About 10 years ago we had trick or treat for a couple of years and it just died a natural death it seems. Pumkin spiced item thing tend be in coffees etc, very few people use the vegtable itself and Pumkin flesh is not sold fresh or frozen in places like Iceland or other supermarkets very much.
I remember COSTCO tried halloween a few years back up in Manchester and never really caught on.
Maybe a re-launch is needed by companies like COSTCO to catch the imagination of the general public.

The Edwardian packaging is enticing. Red velvet had beetroot in back then. Dressing gowns are de rigeur in supermarkets in NZ . Housecoats here had a lighter fabric and design (that could be a trend for shopping). [ Just not in "taupe" like those jackets ].
