  • This is my right hand range of motion 10 days after trigger finger release surgery. Stitches come out tomorrow on day 11 post-op.
The middle finger is swelled also along with the areas pointed out in the video. This finger has been swelled up far beyond normal for several months due to tendon inflammation.
    Thanks for watching.

I just had trigger finger surgery four days ago on my middle and ring finger, same hand. The middle finger was the worst. I've been trying to stretch and straighten them but the progress is slow and very painful. I've been through a lot of surgeries, 21 now, so I know the importance of physical therapy and to take it slow and steady.

I got real lucky. I had my surgery for my ring finger, trigger finger the day after Christmas, and was washing dishes, and during certain things a couple of days after my surgery. Almost 2 months. And absolutely not catching or clicking, and full range of motion. I too had one shot in my hand and it lasted about a year, the I decided to get it fixed.

February 7th was surgery. It still hurts and sometimes wakes me up at night . 50-50 whether I would do it again at this point.. 4 weeks of hand therapy made it only slightly better . Some regression since it ended. Seeing the doctor again at 3 months. I can bear the crooked swollen finger but the pain at the incision bugs me a lot . It sometimes runs up the backside of my arm about 10 inches. I can however, make a pretty good fist. The therapist made a finger cast that helps straighten the finger but I am only to wear it half the time. I was told older people recover more slowly but 3 months? ....

It wont release all the way while the other 2 are fine … should I be worried ? Please any tips ? Did urs eventually straighten ? I will Be seeing my Doc next week for removal of stitches . Yes, my middle finger is now 100 percent straight and I can bend it in to a full grip bend. I'm very happy with the outcome.
I also just had two injections on the thumb and ring finger, I did not think they were going to be effective, both still triggered for three weeks after the injections, then like magic....all triggering was gone. 🙏 I felt blessed!

    Hey! How's it going?

    Hope you're doing great!!

    • @pmtips4482
      @pmtips4482  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

Hello, my grip strength has returned to 100 percent, but it's taken nearly 2 years. If you get the injections, the chemistry of the corticosteroids will soften the tendon for several weeks and you should avoid extreme gripping during that time. My surgeon told me that actual tendon rupture is rare....but still a possibility.
On my middle trigger finger release surgery and injections on thumb and ring finger, I am 100 percent satisfied. I hope you heal well and gain full range of motion.

I had trigger finger surgery on my middle finger about 8 days ago. To help me with bending and stretching pain, I use lidocaine cream very generously. To keep your range of motion you gotta do deep stretching which is painful as heck.

Knee surgery, two tennis elbows, ripped open the meat in between the thumb and index(5interior stiches and 5 exterior) , super sprained my left ankle. My skidoo cab flew of at ~80km/h and hit me in the face. Tumbled for about 12 years. That one took some limit pushing and pain tolerance but finally got better after a year.

At a year I can straighten this finger about 90 percent and curl it about the same.
On gripping, it has good strength but slight dull pain in tendon.
The best news is the cyst on the tendon is gone with zero pain when I press where it was, as in gripping a tool like a screwdriver or power tool.

@@pmtips4482 Firstly, thanks so much for this vid! You did me such a kindness, cuz I had thought i was all alone. I had trigger surgery yesterday and it's exactly exactly like yours was when you made this vid! Its so hard for me to type this, cuz it hurts to even type. Like you, I have deep pain in my palm directly below the mid-finger. Both knuckles of mid-finger are in bent position just like yours were post-op. Venecia, i hope u healed by now. My fingers became heavily arthritic and painful prematurely (i'm 61) due to all the mechanical exertions i put them thru. I also get very painful sores on knuckle of left pointer-finger, due to it becoming so thickened/calcified. People learn that they were their own worst enemies - but only after its too late. Nobody warns us beforehand...unfortunately.

I was skeptical with the whole process, but I'm 6 days in and I see improvements as it's healing. Sore in the middle like you stated. Incision looks similar. My ring finger is bent the way your middle finger is. Which was the finger that needed the release surgery. Oh yeah, my wrist has been aching a bit. Hopefully, that's just a part of the healing and I don't end up with carpal tunnel. Great video. Wished I had seen it a few days earlier. I would've had hope sooner.

Don't sweat carpal tunnel surgery. I've had both wrists done and so has my wife, we both had 100% success with them too.
Also, your doctor will tell you if you need CTR surgery, be careful how long you put it off, as the thumb muscle will become atrophied, leaving you with no strength in that thumb.

    • @pmtips4482

The right middle finger is the only finger that needed the release surgery. After surgery it curled up something fierce and my surgeon demanded me go to hand therapy or it will never straighten out. So after 6 weeks of hand therapy and many hours slowly straightening my finger using heat and ultrasonic therapy, today it is 100 percent pain free and full range of motion.
It doesn't happen over night, so hang in there and use the finger joint jack if needed. I had to use the joint jack for nearly six months combined with sleeping with a straight splint on the finger to keep it from curling.
I wish you the best of luck!

Here's my hand journey: all on right hand, my strong hand.
Middle finger tendon damaged by carrying a 75 pound bucket with no gloves about 20 yards and the pressure caused a cyst knot on the tendon. Doc 1 gave me an injection, but the triggering came back in 6 weeks, he didn't think a 2nd injection would matter so he did the surgery and now that finger is 100 %.
Then...after remodeling a house and demolishing 2 out buildings, my right thumb and ring finger triggered and would lock tight on occasion. Doc 2 (I wanted to try another doc who had awesome reviews in the same orthopedic office), he gave me the corto dose pack twice in 6 weeks and after terrible stomach issues from those he gave the thumb and ring finger injections, for the next two weeks I had no improvement and both still triggered but much softer. Then like magic...the third and fourth week...triggering stopped. Both thumb and ring finger are 100 % now. On a side note, doc 2 will give a second injection before surgery as he says tendon rupture is very rare. Another thing doc 2 does is use a miniature ultra sonic scope and probe to find the exact position of the sheath to inject. Im very pleased with doc 2 and the outcome.
Good luck to you and your hands!

@@pmtips4482 which brand did you buy? I must emphasize that many amazon splints extend onto the palm area. But that's not good - because the palm is where my incision was. And its very sore over there (like a painfully-deep black-and-blue mark). So it needs to be a splint that does NOT extend onto palm area. To Livnfree - my trigger-surgery-finger (mid-finger) is also bent at both knuckles since last week's surgery a few days ago. The surgeon's PA insisted that I keep this abnormal bandage on, despite pleading with him that I wish to put paper-tape on the boo-boo instead. So until my next appointment w/him more than a week from now, i'm stuck with a thick wad of cotton-covered gauze, which in turn is wrapped around and around with an Ace bandage.
