Universal Studios Hollywood Tips: 10 Things to Know Before You Go

- Things YOU need to know before you visit Universal Studios Hollywood in Los Angeles California. Universal Studios Hollywood is a combination of a working movie studio and a theme park. It is the only Universal Studios location to have the studio tour, which is a must see attraction. Riding the studio tour you'll get to see attractions like the shark from Jaws, the Bates Motel, and Whoville from Dr. Seuss. EXPAND FOR MORE.
1 - Tickets
- The front gate is the worst place to buy them
- Buy them in advance, Costco, AAA
- Demand pricing - $100-120
- Express Pass - $250 in the summer
- VIP Experience - $400
2 - Getting to Universal Studios
- Parking: $25
- Uber/Lyft is a good option
- Even better is the LA Subway (Metro) --
- Shuttles from Anaheim hotels
3 -When to go
- Avoid summer if possible - Crowded, hot, and expensive
- Weekdays are the least busy
- Use one of the “crowd tracker” sites to gauge how busy it will be
- One day is good enough, it’s a small park
4 - Shortest Lines
- At park opening (one hour before if you buy tix online)
- Plan for extra time to park, go thru security, etc
- And park closing
- Park Visit Plans
5 - Single Rider Lines
- Best way to get on rides quick

7 - Starway
- Escalators that connect the Upper lot and lower lot
- Can take 10 minutes or more and peak times
- Minimize your time going back and forth

- Plan your visit around the shows
- Water World, Special Effects, Animal Actors, Walking Dead
9 - Rides
= Studio Tour
- The most iconic ride here. 45 mins long.
- Ride it in the late afternoon or early evening for shortest waits
- Pay attention to the closing time
- Avoid the back row of the cars, thats where the engine is

A quick tip for bypassing a lot of the traffic, Universal Studios connects to LAS metro rail, specifically the Red Line, with a shuttle taking you right to the entrance. It's an open secret among locals to park their cars near a stop and just use the train as a two-stage shuttle.
Total cost of parking is a bit cheaper, you don't have to climb the hill from a bad parking spot, and depending on where you're coming from you can skip a huge chunk of LA traffic.

I go during the summer and the single ride line is great. Going on the studio tour fist is the best thing to do. I take the subway both ways and save money.

You are right the studio tour ride is a must do thing if that's the only thing to do in the Universal Studios I mean that's the ORIGINAL ONE & ONLY Universal Studios offering visitors this experience. I've done it 2 times and I will do it the 3rd time next year.
The little panda is so cute and I also have one from the San Diego Zoo and I bet they would be great buddies 😸

Good tips. It’s true tickets are more expensive during the summer time, but due to higher volume of attendance, if you’re a big Harry Potter fan, it can enhance your experience being able to see the light show on the Hogwarts castle. There’s also Grinchmas, which is awesome. They have also had the special light show winter version projected on the hogwarts castle (which is longer and more fascinating).
Studio tours is definitely worth riding. And if you ever think about getting VIP experience, it’s really cool because you can walk around for portions of the studio tour.

I went there today. its was pretty okay, but i think children enjoy it more than adults do, atleast for me. I tought there would be movie sets and behind the scenes stuff, and like some cool movie history and props. It felt more like a amusement park for kids.

We just got back today. 7/21/19 yes it was busy...... but with Express pass or v.i.p. it's no problem at all at most 20 minute wait. Do not go with out express passes! I repeat do not go with out Express passes. Otherwise up to 4 hour waits. No joke. Harry Potter ride shortcut is legit. And dont skip waterworld show! Best ride mummy returns. The video def made my experience better.

So pretty much buy your tickets online or buy the express tickets so you don’t have to wait in line, bring snacks to avoid the expensive restaurants, take the train (depending on how far you’re hotel is), and take lots of pictures 🤷🏽♂️.
