It’s worse than decimation because that literally means loss of 10%. For all those in the path of this tornado the destruction is 100%. I am very far away so all I can do is offer my prayers and condolences. I hope you will be ok and find some peace in the midst of this chaos. With love.

They didn’t say ‘people in the path of the tornado decimated’ though, that’s how you’ve interpreted it for no apparent reason.
If anything the title indicates greenfield was decimated, and that’s the right adjective in this case, especially seeing as the definition they intended is to ‘kill, destroy, or remove a large proportion of.’
Yours was the secondary definition, which is used in historical situations, which is to ‘kill one in every ten [people]’
Don’t know why I wasted my time writing this, it just annoys me a little how everyone tries to act clever by ‘correcting’ people (while being incorrect) and also making everything sound much worse when they don’t need to. Decimated was correct and it sounds harsh enough as it is. What would you prefer; SUPER KILLER TORNADO SHREDS WHOLE TOWN LEAVING THE SURVIVORS TRAUMATISED?

This comment section is just depressing. you have people dead in Iowa over devestating tornadoes, and people care more about The EF rating or useless definitions of words than the people that were affected by the disaster. Unbelievable. 😑 also people always say "If YoU dOnT lIkE tOrNaDoEs ThEn MoVe" like tornadoes Don't happen all over the globe, also not considering a lot of people can't because they don't have money. Also about the EF rating thing. the EF scale is completely irrelevant. if you wanna talk about the EF rating of a tornado, do that after praying for the victims and their families instead of saying "ThIs WaS aN EF5" without evidence and completely ignoring the people who got ripped of everything. I'm sorry, but if you think a tornado's arbitrary rating is more important than people's lives, then I can't take you seriously. Sorry for the rant, just needed to get that off my chest.

EF4, but possibly EF5. Recorded wind speeds of 205+, de-barked trees and completely slabbed homes. They'll take a look at how well-constructed the homes in the path were. If they were rated as solid, this could end up a 5. Because that wouldn't help. Direct hit from a EF4 or EF5 tornado will damage anything short of a nuclear bunker. Look into Mercy Hospital Joplin. That's a building built to FEMA standards to be an operational base for emergency operations. The Joplin tornado moved one of the massive towers 4 inches on its foundation. The whole building was a write off and had to be demolished. Aside from that, the active tornado zone of the US is home to 100,000,000 people. Rebuilding everything in concrete would be trillions of dollars, for the 0.001% chance you get hit in any given year. Build a tornado bunker in the center of the house when it's built, or add an underground cellar bunker in the yard if you don't have a safe space. That's a lot cheaper insurance for your family, and your stuff can be replaced.

    • @artstrology

Monolithic domes are the premier shape and material for tornado prone areas. They would actually be cheaper than what we build now.

The average house in tornado alley will never be affected by a tornado so it doesn't make sense to fortify everything against something that will probably never happen. The best thing to do is to build with basements to take shelter in, and rebuild if the worst happens.

    • @artstrology
      @artstrology 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@dumbfox1036 Well, first you are not a builder. Second, pennies on the dollar compared to two story stick framed, pink fuzz packed 2nd pig 2nd rate construction with a healthy life span of 80 - 100 years if that. Monolithic domes would far outlast any 2nd pig built house. but , even if looking at initial cost, would be far cheaper, although i do concede, you would be in less square feet.
Read the story of the 3 pigs. This is the entire wisdom contained in that story, and it is no accident that pigs are used instead of people, because that is what animal most developers behave like.
3rd, they do not have to be windowless,....we have glass and stuff. Most people living in domes, say it feels way better overall to be in a dome. My wife and I went through a 65 mph wind in a yurt covered with canvas, not one single thing damaged.
Squares and rectangles will always catch more wind than a circular shape. Its dumb to keep stick building.

  • @christopherbiomass7155

Journalists should learn the definition of decimation. This is NOT decimation. It is MUCH worse.
[edit] to help those that don't want to look it up, decimation means to kill, destroy, or remove 10% of something.
    Deci: 10 percent. Like decimeter.
A more appropriate word here would be 'obliterated'.
