@HudsonCarnahan, you can't compare the 3. They all had unique voices that could not be found or compared to any other artist. They were all amazing in their time
Tap on one of uploads describing his reach in this song and others,.. & js, did u hear " Little Girl" from the more progressive rock album done in japan
Has anyone else even attempted this?!?!? - HOLY SH*T!! - this song is crazy hard and Steve makes it look effortless. The man was channeling something supernatural singing this. There's a reason Steve sang this particular song but for a couple times at the start of the Escape tour....Damn!
At 58 years young asI sit here and listen to Steven Ray Perry, again , his vobclllpl vocals give me goosebumps ! His vocals are Orgasmic. I sit here at my age listening to him before and after and I still cry tears of joy . First off , I have to suck in my air and then just let it all out and I will never, ever have his " The Voice" .
The guy is an alien!! And the hardest part of this song is towards the end. thats also where logic will tell you that he should already be tired. The best male Vocalist that ever lived!! I dont think thats even arguable.
Pressed in an interview Steve said this was horrible song. He hated it. But, he sings it so well. He puts everything in every song...even those he hates.
So so good, Steve, charismatic, sexy with that voice, simply unmatched. I also like that he always goes back to the (fantastic) drummer. The whole band in that line-up was amazing, it's a shame it broke up.
Listening to this made me think about how in the 70’s & early 80’s Steven Perry was exactly what Chris Cornell was to Rock ‘N Roll in the 90’s & beyond. They both were & will always be seen as 2 of the most gifted singers of all time & mastered their craft impeccably! What a tragedy that one was silenced by suicide & the other just stopped singing. 😢

You can tell they have some 'vocal help' with the background vocals being pre-recorded. At 3:06, Neal sings Lay It Down when he's not supposed to and nothing is heard! Neal and Jon laugh about it afterward! Of course, everything that Steve sings is live! Even when he is obviously tired and probably jetlaged he still sounds perfect!!
I don't think that's what happened. What it looks like to me is Perry improvised some vocal lines instead of going to the chorus and Schon and Cain wasn't expecting it. They were going to the chorus but backed off when they heard Perry improvising.Always follow the singer!
@@RiffMusic1970 Steve came in at the right time to do a little vocal riff like the album, but Jon and Neal were following eachother thinking they were just going to cut in at that part
Duper Super You’re right! It looks like there was a little confusion though. Maybe Schon forgot about the vocal riff for a second and was going straight to the chorus. It sure looks like he wanted to sing on that part and backed off.
This song has a serious AC/DC vibe to it. A bit like "You Shook Me All Night Long" in sound and lyrical content (the sleaze, if you will), and it rocks just as hard, if not harder. 🎤🎸🎵🎶
They also toured with them just a couple years before during the Bon Scott era which Steve said prompted them to turn their game up This song has the bones of Shot Down in flames
For Steve to sing so pitch perfect while walking around just proves how amazing he really is vocally that's hard to do
Steve is not human. No mortal man can sing like this in live!
Steve is 10x better than Freddy Mercury and Elvis combined

Journey Is Awesome 😀

This so is sooo bad ass!!!!
This performance boggles the mind. It's one thing to pull this off in the studio, but LIVE. WOW!!!!!!!

Love the part when Steve holds a note that makes neal and jon look at him
He’s not called The Voice for nothing! Steve’s vocal control is INSANE! One of my absolute favorite vocalist.
Colin Blunstone of the Zombies was originally known as The Voice
@samdeninno1951
Nah that was Whitney Huston

I know right, he sings it so effortlessly its almost unhuman, i mean really how he does that ? Most def. greatest rock vocal ever.
There's the Queen (Freddy Mercury) The King (Elvis) Then there's Steve over here and he is just 10 times better than them both combined

This, my friends, is why I rank Steve Perry above Freddie Mercury.
He’s of course better than shitty mercury
I always thought that Freddie Mercury is overrated...Steve Perry is a better vocalist than him.
same. Love Freddy but no one has chops like Steve.
Absolutely! He is the GOAT!!!
Freddie was NEVER in his league
This performance is INSANE.
Journey has so many good songs, I like all of their songs.
Me too!
I love how Steve kept singing when the boys were coming in for the chorus and they all shared a laugh #woops
cart8015 I wonder if Steve noticed, he just kept on singing.
Great catch

If any rock singer hit the elusive G5 note .........
Steve could reach it in the studio or live.

lay it town? boy, I want to go there!!!
Pressed in an interview Steve said this was horrible song. He hated it. But, he sings it so well. He puts everything in every song...even those he hates.
That's crazy, considering that it is one of their most intense, hardest songs they ever did
Never liked it either.
Can you send me the link to that interview? Did he say why he hate it? Is it because of the high notes?
It’s one of my favorite Journey songs! The older I get, the more I gravitate toward harder music. The vocals and guitar work in this are great!
No words other than UNTOUCHABLE!!!
Steve is the GOAT, and this proves it.
Steve is a great human being who held and holds high standards for himself and his craft. That is why we getting phenomenal performances like this!
THERE’S ONLY ONE LEAD SINGER OF JOURNEY…. And it’s this man!!!!
Everybody else is a cheap imitation
Everyone else is from Temu 😂
Journey now is a good cover band since Steve Perry has left
AMEN!!!!
Yup!!!
Come on!, nobody ROCKS like this these days.....
This song is probably my favorite journey song now. Jesus that’s straight up metal and they kicked ass at it
1:49 John looking over at steve like, holy crap I’m on the same stage with this god?!
That kind of stellar vocal performance must have been very exciting to accompany
So so good, Steve, charismatic, sexy with that voice, simply unmatched. I also like that he always goes back to the (fantastic) drummer. The whole band in that line-up was amazing, it's a shame it broke up.
STEVE PERRY'S VOICE JUST DOES THINGS TO ME! NOBODY LIKE HIM EVA!!!!

@@tshedisetiloane1518 Thank You For Responding To My Comment & Journey Has So Many Awesome Songs 😀
One of the greatest rock singers of all time
The best line up journey band Mr perry their already legend baby still the voice ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
They messed up on subtitle at the beginning of the video, they put it as "LAY IT TOWN" not "Lay It Down". When I saw that I giggled for a few seconds.
Damnn I love this band!! This is one of my favorite songs
I like rock and roll when YOU sing it!!
❤ Amazing
The Voice! ❤
Most insane part about this concert? Perry was actually sick on this night!!
It’s crazy he absolutely kills the second verse!
Really? It’s been widely reported he was sick in Japan during the 1983 Frontiers tour, but the 1981 tour also? Wow, didn’t know that.
He sounded amazing the whole concert but I noticed he sang less and there was more instrumental content.
And down the line, years of f coke use and his voice is shot
This is definitely Journey's dirtiest and sleaziest song and it FUCKING ROCKS! One of my favorites by them.

Lookin' 'round for a feelin'
I love the rhythm and blues
The place was rockin' and reelin'
I thought I'd shake me loose
The band was pumpin' Motown
Lord how they could play
The girls a-started singing
Rock the night away
By the midnight hour
They could've raised the dead
They were takin' it higher
Higher, higher, higher, ringin' in my head
Lay it down, lay it down
Lay it down, lay it down
Whiskey, wine and women
They get me though the night
I ain't lookin' for trouble
I ain't lookin' to fight
A little vertical persuasion
Would do me right
What I'm really needin'
Ah, double shot tonight.
By the midnight hour
We were on our way
She was takin' it higher
Higher, higher, higher, then I heard say
By the midnight hour
They could've raised the dead
They were takin' it higher
Higher, higher, higher, ringin' in my head
Lay it down, lay it down
Lay it down, lay it down

If there were prepared harmonies a lot of it was Steve.
saw that....I am not done yet..and here is a few extra extra crazy hi notes for you all
another of my favorite ones from Journey 😎👌
I'm not sure Arnel Pineda can do this one but Steve definitely lays it down.
Arnel has thicker voice. It would be hard for him to stretch that voice like Perry
During arnels younger days in the 90s, its possible. He has a high pitched voice during his 20s and 30s
Gracias ewer lord por el VÍDEO excelente me encanto maravilloso.

Don't forget that Neil Schonn spelling? is doing some amazing guitar work 2!!
My gosh Steve😳 think I like this version better than the recording
100% alien
I hate the fact that everytime Steve is hitting the high notes, the camera would cut to someone else like I NEED TO SEE HIS PERFECT EFFORTLESS FACE
Yeah Steve is great. Almost no singer can do like him. Except for the best singer in the world marcelito pomoy. Nobody can match him not even dimash
song with very few covers 😅
Why is there no HD video of this high quality performance😢
steve perry he cool friend because he really cool person as a friend

Lay it Town 😂😂😂
"LAY IT TOWN" 🤣🤣🤣
