Awesome test/video! I have a similar setup pc charger that I hand to my wife for home defense use except it has an aimpoint SRO and YHM R9. And folds to the right also! My home defense is a suppressed 300 BLK. Great job! Answers a lot of people’s questions and doubts on using suppressors indoors.
with sub sonic rounds the loudest part is the primer exploding. This is not really addressed well with a barrel mounted suppessor. in this case, the sound lined up with the opening of the chamber for the next round to load. IF you could find another way to set off the round than with an explosion, electrically perhaps, you could take that sound out of the equation and a suppressor wouldn't really be necessary.
Thats called port-pop, its not the primer. Its some of the gas coming back out the ejection port, it happens on suppressed weapons due to the back pressure of the can. Its why bolt action rifles are much quieter suppressed than semi-autos.
My bump in the night pew pew is a Scorpion Micro S2 with a Dead Air Wolfman on a tri lug. With ofcourse 35 round Magpul mags stuffed with with 147 grain HST.
This is an awesome experiment! I had no idea how quiet a suppressed gun sounded off of the gun. Now I get why people get the impression they're sneaky devices for sneaky people. Still louder than you wanna hear without earpro, I assume, but man does it make a difference.
This is something that actually MANY people don't think about when it comes to home defense. Most gun owners aren't "gun guys", many use them simply as tools. So when they say they want a 12 gauge or a 7.5" AR as a home defense gun, I always ask "Why?" to get the conversation started. Most haven't shot shorter barreled rifles (AKs and ARs are around 16" and bolt actions/shotguns are usually 20+") in a vehicle or inside an enclosed structure. One of my top recommendations for people for home defense is to get electronic ear-pro and put it on their nightstand/hang it on their gun. My main tip is to use a pistol as a home defense gun. You can tuck it in tighter around corners, but my main thought as the primary benefit is penetration. My go to setup is a P80 .45 build with heavy 230 HSTs. It hits hard but is slow and will mushroom in soft barriers, I.E. mutliple layers of drywall/brick siding of a house. We obviously wanna keep our innocent neighbors uninjured. For ARs I recommend 50gr varmint loads because they break apart and lose energy after going through 2 layers of drywall. A suppressor in a house is better than nothing on your home defense gun, but earpro is the best option.
Yup old Sleepy can sign whatever I will never comply period! And now you have me wanting a house with new gun smell I wonder if anyone makes that in a candle or a air scent hahaha
Pat, that was good and interesting. Really nice gun setup. I have not thought much about the noise when using a home defense gun, with what I have I expect it will not be good. Take care.
So I'm a big fan of running subs for home defense. I currently have my 8.3" 300blk as my home defense gun and am using my Sandman S and 205gr Gorilla Ammunition self defense ammo in one mag then have a magpul mag link with 110gr Barnes Tac-Tx in the 2nd mag should I need to switch to supers. Sick little set up with 2 amazing rounds should it ever be needed. Great video Pat 👍
Currently, I'm sending big bore rounds if someone oversteps. I rolled a hog with 45-70 two weekends ago. Suddenly, I have a ton of confidence with that round....
Oh, wow! That was awesome! I've been thinking of how much effect shooting inside my house for self defense. Now, I can make a better choice of what I can do. Thanks for the information Pat RMG!
I noticed that the subsonic rounds had sparks coming from the chamber as the case was extracted. Possibly from slower burning powder still burning off? Could be an issue, especially for left handed shooters. (No one like burning powder in their face)😝
That was a pretty cool test. If where that place is, is anything like where I live out in the country nobody pays much attention to random gunshots anyway.
I live out in the woods and enjoy the ear splitting thunder of the .357’s in the house so any would be intruder will be awestruck as they experience the hollow points expansion. Why deny them the full experience?
