As someone who regularly use full frame cameras for video, I'm gonna be that guy and say that 4K looks oversharpened and too contrasty, while 5.3K somehow have a more natural look. And yes, I do personally own the GoPro 10 and I also have done weeks worth of testing before getting to this conclusion.
You may like the higher contrast 4K and that's totally fine, but for me it feels more amateur-ish, like if it was recorded with a smartphone or something like that. The higher contrast crushes the blacks way too much and even introduce halos around sharp edges. I'd prefer using the 5.3K and do whatever I want with it later during post processing like oversampling, color corrections and even cropping thanks to the higher resolution.

I agree and that’s why I returned the GoPro and replaced it with the DJI Pocket 2, which looks more natural. The only thing is that I am not too keen on the wide focal length, which makes everything look small and far away.

Agree, 5.3k definitely looks more cinematic. I’d love to see this same comparison, but with some motion.

@@camexplora9742 I also have a Pocket 2, I hate the lack of settings. It's either full manual, or full auto. And full auto only sets the shutter speed for 30 fps regardless of what frame rate you are actually recording in

The 5.3K looks much, much better. Everything is sharp and in focus, not digitally oversharpened like the 4K. Either way, I would suggest lowering the sharpness to low no matter what resolution or fps you shoot, since both medium and high sharpness settings are simply a digital sharpening that you should do while editing IF you want it. I can't see any reason to prefer the 4K over the 5.3K in these examples :)

4K is a tad sharper... but 5.3 retain most of the details after crop-in to 200%.... i will definitely go for the extra resolution in case theres the need to re-compose the frame in the post.

Coming from a Film Photography background, with a Darkroom in the early '80s, I can't help but prefer the sharpness of the 4K. When developing prints, I always looked for distinct definition of lines and leaf edges and such. That all seems somewhat blurry in the 5.3K.

So far I think the color details is better on 4k, while the clarity is actually better on 5.3k (especially features like grass and texture of roads and stones which are blurred out in 4k). I have been going to and fro between 4k and 5.3k with my Hero 10 and I think I like the latter better as it looks a bit more natural. Though it does seem to tax much more in processing.
Also, from another video, it looks like 5.3k is limited to low sharpening, this might also be a reason why the 4k looks shivering here and there (as by default it uses medium)

    • @absolutium

My guess is thst the camera is doing extra processing due to the remaining available bandwidth.. but if you are still going to resolve or premiere the dxtra processing doesnt help at all.
