    It's a powerful little program. I spent the whole night yesterday playing with it, and like you say it's really tricky when you got an image which has varying tones.

    Nice presentation as ever... The frequencies referred to in the EQ panel are in the *space* of the image. High frequency components will be edges, fine details... low frequency, smoothly changing areas of tone. (In whichever channel you happen to be looking at). It's actually more intuitive than you might think: we use the same language to describe frequencies in sound and image: for example.. a 'crisp' sound, a 'crisp' image.. both referring to high frequencies. Just as any sound can be represented as / built from the sum of a set of simple sinusoidal waves of varying phase, amplitude, and frequency, so can any image, but in 2D. Search terms would include: 'image processing', 'Fourier transform' 'frequency domain'. I tried looking up a nice snappy illustration for you, but everything I've come across so far dives straight into the maths :(

    I was sure this must be a paid program. Very nice. Seems there is only a Windows version at this time, and no versions for Mac or Linux. The final result (pre-crazy bump map) was better than I expected, but it seems there are still issues with reversing whites and blacks. I would have expected that to be a feature of each node. Is there a way to take, say the height map for instance, into Photoshop for some editing, then load it into Materialize with the original diffuse in order to calculate the Normal map from there, or does it only allow you to use a height map generated by the software? If that were the case I suppose you could start a new project with an edited height map as your diffuse, make no changes in the Height node and then generate a normal map, reflection map, or whichever other you're having difficulty in creating with the sliders.

    I feel like getting the normal map from the height map is causing you some issues. That normal map looks far too blurry, even with the increase in contrast. Which I get you would want for a height map, but you definitely don't want that for a normal map

    • @grabbitt
      @grabbitt  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it is a shortcoming of the programme in my opinion

    • @BassJaxx666
      @BassJaxx666 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know this is 4 years ago but you could work around it by creating a first height map with as much detail as you'd want the normal map to have, set it, set the normal map up how you want, clear the height map and make that blury and it won't effect the normal map at all

NOPE, still grayed out Select button to save out the maps and project. SO this is no good to me. I am hoping the author will consider making the "Alpha Channel" available for use in the "Property Map" section of the Materialize app with the same selection choices as the other channels. Is it really a guide when the author does not know what the controls does?

    • @grabbitt
      @grabbitt  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's difficult to know all the controls of every programme but like I said at the beginning knowing the final result you are trying to achieve is the most important. But I do understand your point.

    • @korvmakak7727
      @korvmakak7727 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fair enough, and sorry for me being grumpy. I get frustrated when the answer to "what a control does" is "play around with it and see what happens"... That being said, I do appreciate what you do! In my ideal scenario I would have gotten the definition of the control *and* the intuitive explanation. But one of those is better than none! Cheers and sorry.
