@@vaevictis_ I just listened to this record after a long time and it's even better then I remember: what a masterpiece, Iron Maiden were incredible crafters of beautiful musical passeges
@@blackmamba5659 I agree, it’s so good to come back to after a long hiatus. Makes you realize how amazing it really was! I’ve grown to absolutely love some of the deeper tracks that I wasn’t crazy about like Deja vu and loneliness
As my favorite band of all time I rank them as this 1) Somewhere in time 2) Number of the beast 3) Piece of Mind 4) Killers 5) Powerslave 6) Seventh Son 7) Iron Maiden 8) Brave new world 9) Senjutsu 10) Book of Souls 11) Dance of the dead 12) Matter of life and death 13) Final Frontier 14) Fear of the dark 15) Virtual XI 16) X Factor 17) No prayer for the dying
Wow, almost like my list. The classic 7 at the top (and Somewhere in Time getting top spot 🤗). "No prayer for the dying" was the beginning of the decline. Brave New World half decent. The 5 latest ones really weak.
My favorite band also and big musical influence on my playing(drums, guitar, bass) one of the best live bands I’ve ever seen! Never ever disappoints! Number of the beast is my favorite and piece of mind’! I love them all but those stick out to me!!!! Up the irons!!!!
How any true Maiden fanatic doesn't think Seventh Son isn't in their top 4 is totally beyond me! But in reality, everyone has a favorite for whatever reason and every album in itself is a secret journey that everyone takes and interprets in their own way.
Somewhere In Time did not deserve that, man… If I had to choose a favorite, it would be close between Brave New World and The Dance of Death. Powerslave is also up there.
They’re a prog metal band. If you want pop metal or indeed any kind of metal with an intro verse chorus verse chorus outro then look elsewhere. You obviously don’t understand the band and are basing your knowledge on songs like The Trooper.
@@dt6949 I disagree. Take songs like Phantom, Powerslave, Rime, or To Tame A Land, those are long songs which are utter masterpieces because of the power of the riffs behind them and the fact that they make a point. These newer long song just seem to neander pointlessly and boringly ad nauseum.
Iron Maiden is my all time favorite band. Here would be my tier list for their discography. S - The Number of the Beast, Powerslave, Somewhere in Time, Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, Brave New World A - Killers, Piece of Mind, Fear of the Dark, Dance of Death, A Matter of Life and Death, The Final Frontier B - Self-titled, No Prayer for the Dying, The Book of Souls C - The X Factor, Virtual XI, Senjutsu
S: Iron Maiden S: Somewhere in Time A: Seventh Son of a Seventh Son A: Piece of Mind A: Powerslave A: Killers B: The Number of the Beast B: Brave New World C: A Matter of Life and Death C: The Book of Souls C: Fear of the Dark C: Dance of Death D: Senjutsu F: No Prayer for the Dying F: The X Factor F: The Final Frontier F: Virtual XI
Somewhere in Time is their best album, and this tour they are doing now revisiting those songs goes to show it. Somewhere in Time is absolutely S Tier.
I’m one of those hardcore fans that truly enjoys all their work, but I can totally see it on the bottom of a lot of lists. Still has great moments and atmosphere
Aside from atmosphere I could not bring myself to put any songs from that album in my master Miaden Playlist. I will possibly revisit it but man it seemed slow and plodding and drawn out and I don't remember any big pay off climaxes or anything. Even the single Sign of the Cross I just don't get it
Number Of The Beast also has my personal favorite Maiden song, "Hallowed Be Thy Name" Piece Of Mind has "Where Eagles Dare" which is a great one, and underrated.
New Maiden is so under rated. I feel like I have the opposite journey with Iron Maiden. I loved their classic albums and was excited for their new albums but when they were releasing I never thought they were really that great. I’ve the past few years however, I have gone back to them more and more, and will listen to all of them start to finish and love every minute. So when Senjutsu I was so excited and when I dropped the needle I must have listened to it 4 times straight. Love it still. Over the past 4 years Iron Maiden has become my favorite band. To each their own though and since I didn’t always love the new albums I do understand why people don’t like them.
I’m 40 and have just gotten back into Metal after years off after burning myself out in High School and University and I think Iron Maiden is the only Metal Group that can come close to touching Metallica. I can’t believe this review. I re-listened to Metallica, Iron Maiden, Megadeath,. Pantera and Slayers entire catalogs and Iron Maiden are clearly my second favorite classic metal group by a long mile.
Love most Maiden records but personal favorites in order i believe is. S. Seventh son, Number of the beast, Piece of mind. A. Powerslave, Killers, Brave new world B. Somewhere in time, Sunjitzu, Fear of the dark C. No prayer for the dying, X-factor D. Virtual
I like Virtual XI. I may be crazy, but Futureal is just a fun goofy song that I like a lot. The one that really makes this album great for me is Como Estais Amigos. Such an under-appreciated gem imo Also Stratego is awesome
Your opinion is welcome of course but I disagree immensely regarding "Somewhere In Time". One of my all time faves by Maiden, from a musical and artwork perspective. Anyway man, good vid, not an easy band to rank album to album.
100% agree that after Brave New World (which is A tier for me), their albums get way too long. I think there's some great moments on them and with some editing and better production they could have been great, but yeah... way too long. I'd rate Somewhere in Time higher as I've always enjoyed that album and think Alexander the Great is one of their best songs. Seventh Son is easily A for me (maybe even S), but I agree with you on what followed. A Prayer is F and Fear of the Dark is D and even though there's some good music on the Bayley albums, I find them unlistenable. Good video, as usual.
There are three Maidens: 80s, 90s, and postreunion. 80% of fans are referring to 80s Maiden when they say they're fans. I personally love all eras but I can see why most don't like the postreunion stuff.
Iron Maiden was my favorite band as a pre-teen, and even then, I don’t have nostalgia-glasses when looking back on their later work. I remember being excited about seeing “Brave New World” at the store because it’s a cool-looking Maiden album that I hadn’t heard yet, but even at my young age, I could tell it was branded as a return-to-form album and that the golden age of my favorite genres was the 70s and 80s. Still, it was a decent listen, and I was excited to buy “A Matter” when it came out. I remember though that it was not the same as the songs were longer and dragged on whereas the older longer Maiden songs were well-deserved epics. I could tell Bruce’s voice wasn’t the same. Compare his voice on that album to a backtrack like “Deja Vu,” and it’s depressing. This video made me realize though that I haven’t bothered listening to anything after “A Matter” and that now that’s actually three albums I haven’t heard! I just couldn’t bear to hear Bruce’s voice lose anymore of its former magic. I think though that you need to give “Prowler” another shot. “Iron Maiden” was my first album by them, and I didn’t know if it would be just as good as the Dickinson stuff, but the opening track assured me that it was. Also, “The Duelists” has my favorite dual (or duel, haha) guitar harmonies of “Powerslave.” You should give that another listen. It’s miles ahead of “Village” in my opinion. And “Somewhere” in D? I think the other golden-year albums are better, but it’s still a golden year album! Those vocals and guitar harmonies on “Deja Vu”!
I do agree with every choice you made except. For somewhere in time I think every song on that album is beautiful. Idk if I have very sentimental reasons but it's my favorite one. But you did really good keep up the good work .
I had to chuckle when you said the band showed more maturity with the songwriting on Killers than the first album, because most of the songs on Killers are older than what appeared on the album “Iron Maiden”. Wrathchild was originally a bluesy song when it was played live in the pubs and clubs of the late 70s. Purgatory was originally called Floating. A version of The Ides of March, called Thunderburst, was played on the album, Head On, by Samson, whose lead singer was Bruce Dickinson. The only new songs that appeared on Killers are: Murders In The Rue Morgue, Killers, Twilight Zone and Prodigal Son. All the rest of the songs had been played live before Maiden were signed up for a record deal. In fact, the Killers album was heavily criticised by the British music press, because the album had barely any new songs on it. The only new songs on “Iron Maiden” were Running Free, Remember Tomorrow and Phantom Of The Opera. Prowler and Strange World were newish, but had been written originally for their demo, The Soundhouse Tapes, but Strange World was dropped. And all I can say is if you don’t like Remember Tomorrow, you’re not much of a Maiden fan. Edit Afraid To Shoot Strangers was about the Gulf War. X Factor is shite and Blaze doesn’t have a decent voice. He’s awful. Virtual XI is Eleven. And yes, it’s an awful album.
My Stack Rankings Below: - S - Powerslave, Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, Brave New World, A - Piece of Mind, A Matter of Life and Death, Killers, The Number of the Beast B - Somewhere in Time, Iron Maiden, Dance of Death C - Fear of the Dark, Final Frontier D - Book of Souls, No Prayer for the Dying, Senjitsu F - X Factor, Virtual XI
A few disagreements as expected in a discography that is so so vast. I'd rank them like this: F: X Factor, Virtual XI D: No Prayer for the Dying, Dance of Death, The Final Frontier C: Senjutsu, The Book of Souls, Fear of the Dark, Killers B: Iron Maiden, A Matter of Life and Death A: Somewhere in Time, The Number of the Beast, Brave New World, Piece of Mind S: Powerslave, Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
Ranked (Fav song): 17. The X Factor (Sign of the Cross) 16. No Prayer for the Dying (Run Silent Run Deep) 15. Senjutsu (Stratego) 14. The Book of Souls (Death or Glory) 13. A Matter of Life and Death (The Longest Day) 12. The Final Frontier (When the Wild Wind Blows) 11. Iron Maiden (Phantom of the Opera) 10. Virtual XI (The Educated Fool) 9. Killers (Wraithchild) 8. Number of the Beast (22 Acacia Avenue) 7. Brave New World (The Wicker Man) 6. Dance of Death (Rainmaker) 5. Piece of Mind (Where Eagles Dare) 4. Fear of the Dark (Judas Be My Guide) 3. SSoaSS (The Evil That Men Do) 2. Powerslave (Powerslave) 1. Somewhere in Time (Caught Somewhere in Time)
Somewhere in Time being D tier is sacrilegious but to each their own. It's way better than their debut and deserves at least a high B low A. No Prayer for the Dying is a D but has a few gems. X Factor is low D and Virtual IX is an F (and I like Blaze's solo stuff!). I like the mixing on AMOLAD so I'd place it right above Fear of The Dark as a High C. The Final Frontier is a B, better than the their debut aswell. Starblind, Coming Home, Mother of Mercy, The Talisman... killer tracks. The Book of Souls is low D and Senjutsu is their lowest album except for Virtual IX.
This video is proof you can have a wrong opinion - haha on a serious note, great knowledge of the band. My tier list is basically the opposite of this 😂
I'm also very firmly in the "nothing past Seventh Son has touched the originals" camp when it comes to Maiden. I saw them tour playing exclusively 80s material, and then again playing a bunch of stuff from Brave New World and Dance of Death. The difference in quality between the two was palpable, to the point that I remember a lot of folks in the crowd actually leaving the festival out of boredom for the latter set.
Because they got lazy beginning with No Prayer for the Dying. No effort in song writing, quick almost live-in-the-studio sloppy production, same mockup guitar melodies used all over again, experimental improvised long and boring prog songs, Bruce completely losing the power and original tone of his voice.
Lol actually Brave New World is a killer album and Dance of Death has some really great moments, never heard of people leaving in a Maiden set... not even in later years with albums not quite as good like Final Frontier, weird catch
Guess I didn't see this video before, even Maiden being my favorite band. To me, the tier list would be as follows: S Tier - Somewhere in Time, Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, Powerslave, The Number of the Beast, and Piece of Mind(the greatest album run on Metal history imo) A Tier - Iron Maiden, Killers, Brave New World, Dance of Death B Tier - AMOLAD, Senjutsu, The X Factor C Tier - The Final Frontier, Book of Souls, No Prayer For The Dying D Tier - Fear of the Dark, Virtual XI I don't think they have any albums that could be put into an F tier. Even Fear of the Dark and Virtual XI have great songs, albeit being the two less inspired and more unbalanced. So, I guess a have a few differences with your own tier list, but my major gripe with yours is Somewhere in Time. It's probably my favorite album of all time and I am beyond excited to be attending their current tour, can't believe I'll be watching Alexander the Great and Caught Somewhere in Time live!
Thank you for being true to what you feel! I agree with you that Iron Maiden is an overrated band. In the 80s they weren't overrated because then they were great but the quality has sunk over the last 30 years (?). Many people are nostalgic. I don't really like "metal" so I get nostalgic over Deep Purple and Jimi Hendrix and such... For me, I would rank Iron Maiden's albums vaguely like this: Middle tier: first two albums Over middle: Number of the beast up until Fear of the dark. My favorite IM album is Somewhere in time but not even that one reaches the absolute top for me. Don't have a clue and totally uninterested: Blaze albums Below middle: reunion albums. Too long, too boring, too flat production. I stopped listening after Final frontier which I thought was ok. I tried listening to both Book of souls and Sinjutsu but didn't make it past the second songs, bored to tears. If I'm longing for something else to listen too, why shouldn't I?
Damn looking at that C tier and then looking at Somewhere in Time in the D tier... good lord man, it's not even a matter of opinion at this point. Love you tho bro, lol
My personal Worst to Best: 17 Virtual XI 16 The X Factor 15 A Matter of Life And Death 14 Fear of the Dark 13 Senjutsu 12 Dance Of Death 11 No Prayer For The Dying 10 The Final Frontier 9 Piece Of Mind 8 The Book Of Souls 7 Brave New World 6 Killers 5 Iron Maiden 4 The Number of the Beast 3 7th Son of a 7th Son 2 Somewhere In Time 1 Powerslave
Just the D-tier is worth the whole discography of most of metal bands; if they had released just these three records I would have said they are one of the greatest of all time; considering they have released many more classic albums, I'm not hesitant to say they are the best.
Phenomenal: Somewhere In Time - 10/10 Powerslave - 9.80/10 Piece Of Mind - 9.40/10 Iron Maiden - 9.20/10 Brave New World - 9.10/10 Great: Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son - 9/10 Killers - 8.80/10 Number Of The Beast - 8.60/10 A Matter Of Life And Death - 8.40/10 The Final Frontier - 8/10 Very Good: Senjutsu - 7.80/10 Dance Of Death - 7.60/10 Book Of Souls - 7.30/10 Ok: Fear Of The Dark - 6.50/10 Mediocre: No Prayer For The Dying - 5.90/10 The X Factor - 5.50/10 Bad: Virtual XI - 4/10
Doing my tier list here too, just for fun: S - The Number of the Beast. A - Seventh Son; Powerslave; Somewhere in Time; Dance of Death. B - Killers; Piece of Mind. C - Maiden; Brave New World; Fear of the Dark. D - No Prayer for the Dying; A Matter of Life and Death; The Book of Souls. F - X Factor; Virtual XI; Senjutsu; The Final Frontier. As a die-hard Maiden fan, I know this is extremely controversial. I do think they're one of the greatest of all time and definitely my favorite of all time. But it is what it is... Maiden, for me, have some of the highest highs in classic Heavy Metal though. It's because I'm such a fan that it hurts to see they've been so inconsistent from the 90s onwards, but, again, in my opinion, nothing tops their 80s stint. I do, however, feel like Dance of Death is a severely underrated album amongst the fans. It's, for sure, their best blend of progressiveness with their signature sound and I strongly recommend every Maiden fan to revist it every now and again. Paschendale, Montsegur and Rainmaker are the holy trinity of this album for me. All in all, this is MY OPINION. People are more than welcome to disagree. Even though I disagree with the tier lists sometime, I love this channel and what it represents to our community!
Virtual xi is one of my favorite albums. Blaze bayleys voice is good for iron maiden, i mean bruce dickinson is my favorite but blaze bayleys has a good voice too for my opinion
S: Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, Somewhere in Time, The Number of the Beast A: Piece of Mind, Powerslave, Killers B: Brave New World, Dance of Death, A Matter of Life and Death, The Final Frontier, Iron Maiden C: Fear of the Dark, Senjutsu, The Book of Souls F: No Prayer for the Dying Haven’t heard: The X Factor, Virtual XI
My personal top 17 - The Final Frontier 16 - The Book of Souls 15 - Senjutsu 14 - Virtual XI 13 - A Matter of Life and Death 12 - No Prayer for the Dying 11 - Dance of Death 10 - Fear of the Dark 09 - The X Factor 08 - Killers 07 - Piece of Mind 06 - Iron Maiden 05 - Powerslave 04 - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son 03 - The Number of the Beast 02 - Brave New World 01 - Somewhere in Time
Been listening to Maiden since “Number.” I really like the first three reunion albums but couldn’t get into “Final Frontier” or “”Book of Souls.” I received “Senjutsu” better but don’t love it.
I came here after the Judas Priest album ranking, in which I 100% agree. About this one…. IMO Seventh Son--> S Somewhere In Time--> A Book Of Souls--> B
Dance of Death is an AMAZING album and yes I can listen to it front to back repeatedly with no problems. The deep cuts on it like New Frontier and Face in the Sand are still bangers and Paschendale is a masterpiece.
My personal tier list S Tier: Powerslave, Brave New World, Somewhere in Time A Tier: Number of the Beast, Iron Maiden, Seventh Son of a Seventh Son B Tier: Book of Souls, Senjutsu, Piece of Mind & Dance of Death C Tier: A Matter of Life and Death, The Final Frontier, Senjutsu D Tier: Virtual XI & Fear of the Dark F Tier: No Prayer for the Dying & The X Factor Only the bottom 2 for me I'd say are outright bad. The rest are at least a 6/10 or so.
"Hell on Earth" from Senjutsu has an amazing performance from Bruce; the lines "Love in anger, life in danger, Lost in anger, life in danger" really communicate fury and anger. The whole song is just so haunting
I pretty much agree with you apart from Somewhere in Time which I rank as number one. I think Bruce's voice has got steadily worse with maiden and I also can't really see why they need four guitars lol. I thought disk one on Senjutsu was utter crap, but disk two was great. Im pretty sure on that album and book of Souls Harris was the producer which mught explain the riddiculous length of some of the songs. I saw rhem on the Dance of Death and a Matter of Life and Death tours and they kick ass live. Also Bruce sings really well on his new solo album so maybe its a mixing thing with maiden. Ill always love them though. Great vid dude.
Unpopular opinion: i agreed with most things in this vid (i think Judas Priest is what Iron Maiden needed or actually had to be in the 2000's, mainly with Juda's 2 last albums, which are 1000x times better than Iron Maiden's last 2 albums). Note: only thing I hated is Somewhere in time in D (that album is 99,9% sure an S tier for me and most people here)
I'm actually a pretty big fan of their 00's+ stuff. Especially brave new world. Seventh son and Somewhere back in time are fantastic 80's time capsules that stand on their own.
I do not own a single iron maiden album, there’s not one that I can listen all the way through, I just make a playlist of all the songs I like from all the albums
My Ranking: 17. Virtual XI 16. The X Factor 15. No Prayer for the Dying 14. Fear of the Dark 13. Dance of Death 12. The Final Frontier 11. A Matter of Life and Death 10. Brave New World 9. The Book of Souls 8. Iron Maiden 7. Senjutsu 6. Killers 5. Piece of Mind 4. Seventh Son of a Seventh Son 3. The Number of the Beast 2. Powerslave 1. Somewhere in Time
If I had to rank the albums, the S ranking would stand for "Somewhere in Time" and "Seventh son of a Seventh Son". Absolute masterpieces. Anyways my ranking would be 1. Seventh Son of a Seventh Son 2. Somewhere in time (can easily be interchanged with seventh son) 3. Powerslave 4. The Number of the Beast 5. Killers The rest just blurs, i can't compare them
It's funny seeing Somewhere in Time go so low as it's definitely my favorite Maiden album, generally there are a few songs per album that I want to skip but SiT has only one and it's the closer
So although I absolutely disagree with this entire list, though your F-Tier is spot on, I believe I know why. Iron Maiden has drifted into the more progressive side of metal, and judging by your list, it would appear that you're more into the in your face "hard and heavy" style of metal music, generally speaking. I also make this judgement based on your views on 10,000 days and Fear Inoculum, compared to Tool's earlier stuff. The problem you're gonna run into is that progressive metal fans, like myself, are fanatics about the genre and just generally prefer it over the bore-fest that is mainstream rock/metal today and the "in your face" metal genres that overtake much of the genre today. The other issue is that a lot of progressive metal/rock fans just aren't going into these albums for the same reasons, we're not simply wanting to hear "good tracks" for the sake of hearing "good tracks," but rather to go on an adventure.... which I mean, technically requires good songs to pull that off, but good for different reasons that consist of A LOT more than merely being short, catchy and in your face. This is of course not meant as an attack/criticism, just what it looks like to me. I'm also new, so if I'm wrong, I apologize. If I'm right, that doesn't mean you're wrong either of course. This is all just taste and opinions at the end of the day.
@@MetalTrenches So is it basically the self-indulgence of Maiden/Tool's more recent execution choices that turns you off? If so, I get that. A lot of people feel that way.
This is a super honest ranking for myself Bad: 17. No prayer for the dying 16. X factor 15. Virtual XI Below Average: 14. Senjutsu 13. Dance of death (title track is one of my favorite maiden songs, face in the sand and paschendale is good) 12. Fear of the dark 11. A matter of life and death Good: 10. Killers (good album, but just overrated imo). 9. The final frontier (really impressive for newer maiden) Great: 8. Piece of mind (the deeper cuts hinder this album but it is still great). 7. Brave new world (even the long songs are pretty great on this one). 6. Iron maiden (underrated). Classics: 5. Powerslave 4. Seventh son of a seventh son 3. Book of souls (I truly love this album from front to back I don't understand the hate this album gets). 2. Somewhere in time 1. The number of the beast
F - Virtual XI, The X Factor D - The Final Frontier, Iron Maiden C - Book of Souls, Senjutsu B - No Prayer for the Dying, Matter of Life and Death, Fear of the Dark, Killers, Piece of Mind, Number of the Beast, Dance of Death A - Brave New World, Powerslave, S - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, Somewhere in Time
SIT album the Lowest tier? Are You joking man? My advice to all youtubers... Hmm, well, to all music lovers... Never play a video of this channel! Maybe i will come back here and complain again about the rank of SIT album. This channel deserve that.

As much as I love Iron Maiden I think people often overblow their preferences and gripes with this band out of proportion, which is common with bands that last this long, I really enjoy their modern stuff since Brave New World, minus Dance of Death, and I personally think all their 80's stuff is near perfect, don't fully agree with your placements for Somewhere in Time and Fear of the Dark but I do understand, I wouldn't recommend those records to people who want to get into Maiden, same with their modern stuff, I enjoy listening to those records from time to time, I like the ambition of those records, in spite of the bloat.
i definitely agree and i have the same opinion over there. i personally do appreciate and love Iron Maiden and people definitely overblow their preferences way too much out of proportion for sure. There is always going to be great things about the band and albums from the band. i don't necessarily agree with all the placements but i respect his opinion. I also respect their legacy and ambition for sure with some albums.

Ok . I can settle with Killers as an 'A' . But you had me worried at first . But now that I am looking in the comments below I feel distress again lol ! But it is your list bro , and I cant argue with that . We all have our own taste in metal/music. That is why I love metal so much , there is something for everyone . Nothing but love from me homie . @@anony-moon idk i Just think that it's a fun album to listen to front To back. All the tracks are not their best for sure but they're fun and pretty damn solid. Of all the A Tier Albums To me NPFTD Is the lowest. Thanks mate!
I love iron maiden. Absolutely die hard and support everything they do and yes I agree that not everything they do is perfect 😂 my ultimate favourite maiden album is the debut so it pains me to see you putting it in B haha but hey like you said, you’re allowed to have opinions and I thoroughly enjoyed the whole video! 🤘🏻
For me - S: 7th son, powerslave, number of the beast, somewhere in time. A - brave new world, killers, final frontier. B - piece of mind, self titled, book of souls, senjutsu. C - a matter of life and death, fear of the dark, dance of death. D - no prayer for the dying, the x factor, virtual ix
It's interesting how bands go through very similar cycles. Unrefined and unbridled for one or two albums. Two or three golden albums. And then years and years of mixed bag garbage, trying to reclaim the glory. Maiden, Metallica and Slayer all come to mind.
For me: 1- Piece of Mind 2- The Number of the Beast 3- Brave New World 4- Powerslave 5- Somewhere in Time 6- Seventh Son of a Seventh Son 7- Killers 8- The Final Frontier 9- Dance of Death 10- The X Factor 11- Fear of the Dark 12- Iron Maiden 13- Senjutsu 14- The Book of Souls 15- A Matter of Life and Death 16- Virtual XI 17- No Prayer for the Dying

Eh, opinions are like assholes. Everyone has one and they all stink. Judas Priest tier-list ranking next?
Long term Maiden fan since I was a kid, and I have a hard time disagreeing with too much of what you've said here. The newer Maiden albums have some absolutely amazing writing and performances sprinkled throughout, but between being overly long, the awful production/lack of mastering, and Bruce's voice fading, it's pretty hard to rank them up with their classics. I also agree about the late 80s-early 90s albums. Some great moments, but also some very throwaway, cheesy stuff too. Your S-B is their strongest, most consistent work.
1. Seventh Son of a Seventh Son 2. Piece of Mind 3. Powerslave 4. The Number of the Beast 5. Somewhere in Time 6. Fear of the Dark 7. Iron Maiden 8. The X Factor 9. No Prayer for the Dying 10. your rankings are a bit harsh compared to mine ,but you are so right Iron Maiden is a band that benifits massively from nostalgia and i am not a exception. I literally never had heard a metal song before i saw the music video of number of the beast on my older cousins old vhs tape when i was 13. I literally had no idea what a electric guitar was before then.So Iron Maiden is like one of the GOATS for me .But my god the last few albums have been a drag ,maybe would have been good if were 45 minutes but not these massive boring behemoths . I saw Iron Maiden on the brave new world tour so that album maybe higher than it should be in my mind . I completely agree Senjutsu is fairly ok but it was so bloated i agreed with Razorfist on it .
Their two best albums in S-tier and most of their classic era albums in B through S makes this alright. Somewhere in Time is way too low. I can live with it overall. I strongly disagree with Iron Maiden being overrated though. Their influence is massive and can be heard all over metal. Melodic death metal owes a massive debt to Maiden, as do groups like Avenged Sevenfold, and the oughts melodic metalcore more generally.
I agree that their music is important and influential, I just don’t think that, taken as a whole, their discography is very impressive in comparison to other big names
@@MetalTrenches I feel like almost every band with that kind of longevity and that number of albums has some duds. I feel like groups like Priest and Sabbath may have had more duds than Maiden tbh. I will say there are groups like Cannibal Corpse and Immolation that have been around forever without a notably poor release, but it’s very rare. I think the recent output from Maiden and Metallica are similar in that there’s a lot of quality stuff but nobody there to tell them to consider cutting some fat. They had a bad run in the 90s, no doubt. Their 80s era is probably the best of any classic metal band to me and goes head-to-head with the likes of Slayer and Metallica.
@@MetalTrenches where I disagree though is that Iron Maiden really doesn’t have bad albums aside from their 90s era, and their 80s output was unbelievable. You’re certainly entitled to your opinion on their discography, but I see their shadow looming larger than any classic metal band aside from Sabbath based on what I hear in other bands. Their distinctive twin guitar harmonies are just everywhere.
Somewhere in time is S Tier, it holds up over time and the synths kick ass
That's hilarious that "Somewhere in Time" has syths on it because I remember hearing Bruce say that "Synths are not Rock/Metal".
Somewhere In Time is S tier to me, even better then Number of the Beast.

6) Seventh Son

Wow, almost like my list. The classic 7 at the top (and Somewhere in Time getting top spot 🤗). "No prayer for the dying" was the beginning of the decline. Brave New World half decent. The 5 latest ones really weak.
Wow I'd have to disagree with you on nearly all of these
My favorite band also and big musical influence on my playing(drums, guitar, bass) one of the best live bands I’ve ever seen! Never ever disappoints! Number of the beast is my favorite and piece of mind’! I love them all but those stick out to me!!!! Up the irons!!!!
Having listened to Maiden since the early 80s, this list is similar to mine, though I'd put Dance of Death above Book of Souls and Senjutsu
Switch 1 and 3 and 10 and 11. But for the rest I aggree!
How any true Maiden fanatic doesn't think Seventh Son isn't in their top 4 is totally beyond me! But in reality, everyone has a favorite for whatever reason and every album in itself is a secret journey that everyone takes and interprets in their own way.
It’s a good album
However all the albums released before are better
Best album
Seventh Son and Somewhere In Time are both S Tier. Two fantastic concept albums.
@@markstaud Concept albums? Hardly... even Seventh Son falls short of being a concept album
Honestly I listen to Seventh Son when I need a good sleeping aid. Everything before it, and yes, the two albums after it blow it out of the water.
Somewhere In Time did not deserve that, man…
If I had to choose a favorite, it would be close between Brave New World and The Dance of Death. Powerslave is also up there.
Yeah that seems to be the biggest upset on the list

They’re a prog metal band. If you want pop metal or indeed any kind of metal with an intro verse chorus verse chorus outro then look elsewhere. You obviously don’t understand the band and are basing your knowledge on songs like The Trooper.
@@dt6949 I disagree. Take songs like Phantom, Powerslave, Rime, or To Tame A Land, those are long songs which are utter masterpieces because of the power of the riffs behind them and the fact that they make a point. These newer long song just seem to neander pointlessly and boringly ad nauseum.

Somewhere in Time is their best album, and this tour they are doing now revisiting those songs goes to show it. Somewhere in Time is absolutely S Tier.
Somewhere in Time is my favourite album of theirs.
No problem 🤘🏻
X Factor is highly underrated. One of my favourite albums. You know I'm speaking sense.
Dude. I just love Nicko's drums sound on X-Factor.
I’m one of those hardcore fans that truly enjoys all their work, but I can totally see it on the bottom of a lot of lists. Still has great moments and atmosphere
I listened to X-Factor a couple of weeks ago, I didn't hate it but it's still probably my least favorite.
Aside from atmosphere I could not bring myself to put any songs from that album in my master Miaden Playlist. I will possibly revisit it but man it seemed slow and plodding and drawn out and I don't remember any big pay off climaxes or anything. Even the single Sign of the Cross I just don't get it
@Kranberry Jones personally I'd also go man on the edge as well as Sign of the cross but yeah most of the songs blendinto each other
Number Of The Beast also has my personal favorite Maiden song, "Hallowed Be Thy Name"
Piece Of Mind has "Where Eagles Dare" which is a great one, and underrated.
Pantera and Slayers entire catalogs and Iron Maiden are clearly my second favorite classic metal group by a long mile.
why do you feel that newer Maiden is under rated?
Love most Maiden records but personal favorites in order i believe is.
S. Seventh son, Number of the beast, Piece of mind.
A. Powerslave, Killers, Brave new world
B. Somewhere in time, Sunjitzu, Fear of the dark
C. No prayer for the dying, X-factor
D. Virtual
I like Virtual XI. I may be crazy, but Futureal is just a fun goofy song that I like a lot. The one that really makes this album great for me is Como Estais Amigos. Such an under-appreciated gem imo
Also Stratego is awesome
agree
I agree. The Clansman is very catchy as well.
Your opinion is welcome of course but I disagree immensely regarding "Somewhere In Time". One of my all time faves by Maiden, from a musical and artwork perspective. Anyway man, good vid, not an easy band to rank album to album.
Somewhere in Time is Maiden's best album.
Thanks for all of the support 🤘🏻
The only new songs that appeared on Killers are:
Murders In The Rue Morgue, Killers, Twilight Zone and Prodigal Son.
Edit
Afraid To Shoot Strangers was about the Gulf War.
X Factor is shite and Blaze doesn’t have a decent voice. He’s awful.
Virtual XI is Eleven. And yes, it’s an awful album.

D - Book of Souls, No Prayer for the Dying, Senjitsu
F - X Factor, Virtual XI

C: Senjutsu, The Book of Souls, Fear of the Dark, Killers
B: Iron Maiden, A Matter of Life and Death
A: Somewhere in Time, The Number of the Beast, Brave New World, Piece of Mind

2. Powerslave (Powerslave)
We definitely don't have the same tastes, but that's fantastic. For me, Piece of Mind is Maiden's best album. And Iron Maiden comes in 2nd...
These are the good comments. We can disagree and embrace that.

A Tier - Iron Maiden, Killers, Brave New World, Dance of Death
B Tier - AMOLAD, Senjutsu, The X Factor
C Tier - The Final Frontier, Book of Souls, No Prayer For The Dying
D Tier - Fear of the Dark, Virtual XI
I don't think they have any albums that could be put into an F tier.
For me, I would rank Iron Maiden's albums vaguely like this:
Middle tier: first two albums
Over middle: Number of the beast up until Fear of the dark. My favorite IM album is Somewhere in time but not even that one reaches the absolute top for me.
Don't have a clue and totally uninterested: Blaze albums
Below middle: reunion albums.

Funnily enough I LOVE progressive music, I think I just prefer how other bands execute it
@@MetalTrenches So is it basically the self-indulgence of Maiden/Tool's more recent execution choices that turns you off? If so, I get that. A lot of people feel that way.
And here I thought Senjutsu was considered among the best. I f*cking adore that album.
Brave New World easily some of Iron Maiden’s best work

Good:
10. Killers (good album, but just overrated imo).
9. The final frontier (really impressive for newer maiden)

Putting NPFTD scared me but your S tier is valid af
@@anony-moon idk i Just think that it's a fun album to listen to front To back. All the tracks are not their best for sure but they're fun and pretty damn solid. Of all the A Tier Albums To me NPFTD Is the lowest. Thanks mate!
The only thing I completely disagree on is Somewhere in time if you are comparing it with the newer albums it's easily in the B tier if not A
I love iron maiden. 🤘🏻
For me -
S: 7th son, powerslave, number of the beast, somewhere in time.
There are 3 albums on top in my opinion: Powerslave, Somewhere in time and 7th son, in that time They were more than the best.
For me:
1- Piece of Mind
2- The Number of the Beast
3- Brave New World
4- Powerslave
5- Somewhere in Time
6- Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
7- Killers
8- The Final Frontier
9- Dance of Death
10- The X Factor
11- Fear of the Dark
12- Iron Maiden
13- Senjutsu
14- The Book of Souls
15- A Matter of Life and Death
16- Virtual XI
17- No Prayer for the Dying
My ranking:

@@bernabefernandeztouceda7315 I think some of those modern albums have dropped to D since I made this list.
bro you didnt had to do stratego like that my god xD
but i appreciate brutal honesty in the world of babies, keep it up \m/
lol thanks
Good review, finally someone who thinks Iron Maiden is overrated. Satisfying to see the Iron Maiden merchants get salty in the comments😭🙏Judas Priest clears🔛🔝
I know it's your opinion and thats fine but holy fuck!!! That somewhere in time placement is brutal that one is the easiest S tier ever.
S: Powerslave, Piece of Mind, Killers
A: Somewhere in Time, Brave New World, Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
B: The Number of the Beast, Iron Maiden, The Book of Souls
C: Fear of the Dark, Dance of Death, A Matter of Life and Death
D: Senjutsu, The X Factor, No Prayer for the Dying
F: The Final Frontier, Virtual XI
Oof, Somewhere in Time at D-tier? Eh, opinions are like assholes. Everyone has one and they all stink.
Judas Priest tier-list ranking next?
Probably at some point
Long term Maiden fan since I was a kid, and I have a hard time disagreeing with too much of what you've said here. The newer Maiden albums have some absolutely amazing writing and performances sprinkled throughout, but between being overly long, the awful production/lack of mastering, and Bruce's voice fading, it's pretty hard to rank them up with their classics. I also agree about the late 80s-early 90s albums. Some great moments, but also some very throwaway, cheesy stuff too. Your S-B is their strongest, most consistent work.
1. Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
2. Piece of Mind
3. Powerslave
4. The Number of the Beast
5. Somewhere in Time
6. Fear of the Dark
7. Iron Maiden
8. The X Factor
9. No Prayer for the Dying
10. Killers
11. Brave New World
12. A Matter of Life and Death
13. Virtual XI
14. Dance of Death
15. The Book of Souls
16. Senjutsu
17. The Final Frontier
Iron Maiden is the In Flames of classic Heavy Metal
Disagree in a lot of things but i respect your opinion
S: Piece of mind, somewhere in time, Powerslave, ssoass, number of the beast, brave new world
A: the x factor, AMOLAD, No prayer, book of souls
B: fear of the dark, senjutsu, iron maiden
C: dance of death, killers, final frontier
D: virtual XI
your rankings are a bit harsh compared to mine ,but you are so right Iron Maiden is a band that benifits massively from nostalgia and i am not a exception.
Yeah that was one of Razorfist's better reviews of late
Great ranking iron maiden are one of my favorites
