I'm the Cheryl Tolcher talking with Dave at the 4:30 mark. I just wanted to let Paul know that Ted & Cheryl are still married despite his dire warning that we'd only last another six months. Heck, we even had two MORE kids following that show! Of course, I still scratch his name off the stationary every chance I get.
. A PRIME example of Dave at the top of his game in Late Night !! Incredibly GREAT, cutting-edge comedy, that you just couldn't get (and still can't) anywhere else !! Thank you for posting this GREAT bit !! .
@@jeffwolfe4058 . This is SO good......forgot how funny Dave and his show could be. Just wish I had seen even ONE episode of his LEGENDARY morning show, just prior to him doing 'Late Night'..... .
Like the others I always loved this feature ! The little girl was so cute when she forgot her line, then quickly went on rather than panicking... and Dave's genuine reaction to her
Media , humanity , humor is all swirling the drain. People used to be FUNNY and JOYFUL. These were good times! If anyone needs a quick laugh my favorites are Dave and Jack Hanna or Dave and Richard Simmons. Both unscripted and all got along really well behind the scenes
Hey Don, I seem to remember a remote in 1987 or 1988 where they had a camera at Lambert St. Louis airport & a local radio personality (JC Corcoran) tried to crash the live shot & Dave told him to get back to his puppet show. Do you recall it or have you uploaded it on here? thanks again.
I think Paul Shaffer needs to let the guys in the Rolling Stones know that he wasn't serious about them "going on forever". The boys have spent the last 34 years trying to live up to these lofty expectations, perhaps they'd like to retire and live out the rest of their sunset years.
In ‘87 or ‘88, I sent a letter to Viewer Mail. I knew Dave’s penchant for choosing non-obvious letters, and crafted my letter accordingly. I felt SURE mine would get on, and I taped Friday nights for a year, but didn’t see it. It was something like: “Dear Dave, Late Night staffer Barbara Gaines is a total babe! Could you send me her picture? An 8x10 glossy would be nice.” Did he ever air it? Signed, Hoping in Albany.
I have a blog post that lists every VM writer and their location. Five hits for Albany. None, unfortunately, from you. donzblog.home.blog/2022/01/12/viewer-mail/
I must be wrong because no one else is talking about this, but to me it sure seemed like Dave was legitimately mad about something. Like, in a really un-funny way.
@@jessesmith3904 It was to be two giant elements. Now it’ll be just one, and it won’t be a video upload. I do hope to prepare a video package for the 40th, but much of it depends on some permissions I’m requesting. I realize this doesn’t answer your question. :)
It's just wild to think of all the effort and time they put into making a maybe twenty second Tony Randall bit.

How great is that. Thanks and well done. :)

Anytime someone asks me how I am, I always reply “salvageable”. Thank you, Cheryl.
Did you know that Dave would be calling?
Yes. I got a call asking if I would be available to take a call from Dave. 🙂@@wadebarnett2542
OMG Tony Randall was such a sport - the best cameo guy ever.
More clips like these please! I like these moments of the show way better than all the celebrity interviews.
Seconded!
Search through my channel; there are hundreds of skits.
I THIRD THAT!!
Quaded
Quint-ed!
i liked this a lot, thank you for posting it
THANK YOU KINDLY! I LOVED THE HELL OUT OF THIS! SERIOUSLY THANKS
Love you Don! Thank you for all that you do. Now, please! Give us some more viewer Mail segments. 😂
Search my channel. I’ve uploaded quite a few.
And thanks!
@@dongiller Have you uploaded the segment that featured Paul doing a guest spot on "Baywatch" as hot shot life guard?
@@gallery7596 October 3, 1989. Not yet.

You da man, Don.
That was hilarious. It makes me nostalgic for the early years.

So glad to see you're still rockin' n' rollin'!
Thanks for the giggles and cherished memories.💖🐾😸
I love watching these old clips.
OMG. This just makes my day ... right up until I do the math to figure out how long ago it was ...
This is just beyond funny, thank you Don, now I’m gonna watch it again 🤣🤣🤣
Talk shows need more random deaths like this. Enhances viewer engagement.
Like the others I always loved this feature !

Not too many band directors could double as a sidekick. Dave got a twofer with Paul.
Too funny...half of the greatness of these skits is how unrehearsed they all seem to be!
Ronnie got all dressed up!
Is there a list anywhere of artists that sat in with the band over the years?
I have them all in my databases and can compile them for public consumption. Just haven’t done it yet. Will probably post then in my blog.
That’s quite an elaborate setup!
"A band that I believe will go on forever - the Rolling Stones" - Paul Shaffer, 1987
just excellent. steve allen, jack paar and johnny all rolled into one
Good to see David Sanborn doing some serious acting.
9:23 It leaves me teary-eyed that Paul promised to take the kids to see Redd Foxx. Any man can be a father, few can be a dad.
And Slappy White,

Paul wasn't far off about the Stones lasting forever.
Excellent.
Awesome! Looking for a Viewer Mail segment from July 1983, if anyone has it!
Stay tuned.
Ron the 'looking for random gigs while Mick and Keith feud' years (kid blew that line bad).
9:28 - Does anyone know if that little girl is actress Thora Birch from 2001's Ghost World?
Nobody reads my descriptions.
@@dongiller Done and done. Thanks for the reminder.

Ronnie Wood in a suit! The '80s was one f***ed up decade.
Paul was right when he said that he believed that the Stones would go on forever. Or at least it seems that way. ; )

Nothing compares to this show. Nothing.
I miss when entertainment was fun like this.
Zany fun. The kid screwing up her lines=comedy gold.
Paul is dead! Beatles reference!, Anton acting, Fake wife, Tony Randall! Great night!
I'm not convinced. I think Cheryl killed Ted for insurance money and split it with GE to pay Dave's salary.
I’m watching this in 2024…
What the HELL has happened to comedy today on late night television?! It doesn’t exist!
Hope Vinitsky? Or Howard?
Howard became Hope. I’m respecting her current name.
6:39 - Bubonic plague?!

I’m so old I remember when comedians could really ‘kill’ :)
How about a Jason Randall collection? There are a few clips of his appearances on TH-cam but they’re very poor in quality.
In time. Currently focused on a massive compilation for Late Night’s 40th anniversary coming up on February 1.
