    I never knew those tuning slide braces were pressed on and could be removed. Very interesting. I used penetrating oil, a heat gun, and some gentle tapping with a rubber mallet, to free up the tuning slide on my son's Conn

    Thank’s Art! As a brass player it’s really educating to have a look into your shop! By the way, that’s exactly the trumpet model my daughter is playing but it was still a surprise that the tuning slide brace is pressure fitted.

    Hi Art, I’d like to see a video on solder cleanup.

    Thx for posting all of these videos Art. I just picked up a 1955 Olds Ambassador for $40. Only three tiny dents. Two sliders came out, but the long one, and tiny one are still soaking in penetrating oil. Checked this morning, and the top one is starting to come loose. Think I'll just keep soaking them for now.

    Thanks, that's really good to know ! I had no idea these 2335 tuning slides were friction fitted (I guess that's a manufacturing gain), trying without knowing could really make a lot of damage...

    i just found that the ytr1335 model also has the same single tube, but it does not have the brace...And it's a big deal to do what you did in the video without brace...The only solution I could find was to solder a temporary brace...

    Hey Art, just wondering why you cut the tube the second side without checking if you could free it by twisting the ceook back and forth after cutting the first one ? - would have saved half the work!

      That is a good point. I cut it because the brace was on the wrong side to twist it. I could have moved the brace over and then twisted it out, but I will admit that I did it mostly for the video because both slides are almost always stuck and need to be cut. It was easier to cut the slide than to try to explain on the video why I did not cut it.

    How much would you charge for a service like this? I have the same model which is stuck and I am trying to figure out how much it could cost in case of the need of doing something "extreme" like this.
    Thank you

    Is there a problem when using a torch on a lacquered finish?

    • @TheBrassandWoodwindShop
      @TheBrassandWoodwindShop  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you use too much heat (which is easy to do), it can burn the lacquer. If you are very careful, you can usually burn just a little or none at all. Some lacquer will burn no matter how careful you are because it burns at a lower temperature than solder melts at.

    I’ve got a horn that was spray painted by a previous owner, I didn’t really wanna up the offer cus of how cheap he sold it for. Is there any way to get rid of spray paint on an instrument?

      Hi! I did a video on removing paint from a silver cornet. th-cam.com/video/GNfX-yxT_To/w-d-xo.html However, if the trumpet is lacquer, it makes it more difficult because you may very well remove lacquer while removing the spray paint using the chemicals. You can try scraping the paint off carefully by hand.

      Cheap to manufacture, hard to live with afterward.
