You are awesome! I tried all of the other techniques for freeing up my tuning slide, and your tip about freezing your trumpet & then apply heat is the only one that worked to get my tuning slide unstuck. And it was really stuck... we're talking not greased for over 20 years kind of stuck. Thanks for sharing your idea!

Just tried this and it worked. I don't know how much the heat helped as it all seemed to heat up at about the same time after coming from the freezer. That could be because I couldn't find my heat gun and settled for a hair dryer.
I added a long 2x2 board that is longer than my trumpet. It allowed me to use a hammer for more leverage while keeping it clear from hitting the horn.

Looks like a good idea, I think I'll try it, as well. I may also try splitting a piece of vinyl tubing to form it in place as a damper between the wooden form and the brass crook. Maybe a piece of 1" diameter tubing, split length wise and then notched to accommodate the shape of the bend.

I was thinking about the same thing. Lets share patents;) My idea is to use a 2x4 so that the wood/hammer can hit the part that is away from the brass. Thanks for sharing your invention.

How about a stuck tuning valve or a tuba?
