A nice Sunday afternoon surprise, you stopped me from washing my lunch dishes, So another cuppa was required to go along with your work, dishes can wait! Should have made it longer Luke, ive still got half a cup of coffee to go, A bit of time has passed since you began on that car and id say a decision has been made on its future by now, but i wont ask, and dont tell me! I had been holding this video for a good couple of months now @wayne armstrong but thought today being a lazy Sunday, it would be the best day to drop it.

It’s nice that Holden made alternator changing so easy on these models. I’ve found though that despite the thread size being the same, the bolt heads can vary from 1/2”, 13mm or 14mm. Nice video Luke 👍
It sure is @Tim Areskog compare to some of the other cars I've worked on in the past. The Holden Ecotec alternators are some of the easiest to replace or repair. Until they went alloytec engines...then you have to pull the studs aswell to remove🤦♂️ Lots harder!
Well, i didn’t expect to swap out an alternator today.

I am ao glad to hear you are enjoying so far @Cap we still have lots more work to do on the old VS commodore yet mate and we will show it all. Including an ignition barrel replacement...that's a whole another story, for another video though😅

Did you check the brushes from the old alternator ? Generally they are the biggest issue with vr / vs alternators.
I sure did @Mark Mcintosh but unfortunately the whole unit was kaput! The brushes on the inside were worn down, one more than the other. And I suspect bearing noise also and it needs a replace. A very common issue for sure.
Thankfully we have power restored and changing our battery now mate👍👍

Hi there @Lyam Tolver-Banks, I sure am mate. Ever since I was a young teenager, I have had an interest and been working on cars. Then, later, I became an automotvie mechanic, working in multiple workshops over the years and doing all kinds of mechanics. Servicing, installing, tear downs, timing chains, engine and gear box installs....you name it, I've done it, mate. Unfortunately, the only thing that stopped me working full-time as a mechanic was arthritis in my lower back.
I still do lots of mechanics now, though, servicing all my families cars. However, don't work full-time. I just pick and choose the work I want to do and when I want to do it now.
I am also 37 this year, and I've owned over 130 cars... and most of them being Holdens that I've worked on fixing up and later sold😅I love my cars👌👌
What kind of car is that .Where are you located at mate?
This is a 95 Vs Holden Commodore @Tommy Chewning a great car. And located in Victoria, Australia mate👍

Great to be teaching too @idigthat73 although all engines are different. Some alternators are absolute pain to remove!
